  1. Hi Mick, I will have plenty of opportunity to do X wind landings soon, pending weather dare say we will do them this week. IM not in the Bathurst aero club, its called Central West Flying, they own a Jab 160 and 230, with a new Jab 230 arriving soon. Looking forward to doing more circuits and nail these landings. Dave
  2. Hey, Back again, ended up flying today in case of bad weather tomorrow, cloud started to roll in, we were just under cloud base by about 500 ft, which was perfect. had a slight cross wind, started off at 14 knots at 40 deg, dropped down to 9 knots. We used Runway 08 for a change, which is a dirt runway, more forgiving while im learning. Thanks for all the posts and encouragment. Flying again next Monday and Tuesday. Well done Dave on your BAK and Radio exams.. i am sure all that will be around corner soon enough. Dave.
  3. hey, Over last 2 days we have had 1034 and 1035 in Bathurst NSW, highest i ever remember seeing it, made for nice flying over last 2 days, especially circuits. 1043 is very high though. Dave
  4. RTFQ = Read the F...... question!! haha.
  5. Just had another Circuits lesson, did approx 6 circuits, i am getting hang of it, only thing i am not doing is flaring quite enough over runway, the setup not too bad, a little high on a couple. I go back again on wednesday for another lesson. As everyone says, i will feel the click eventually and i will wonder what all the fuss was about. Geez Mick, engine failure on solo.. what a learning point in your life. haha. Well done. Dave
  6. Hey all, 1st unassisted landing today on my first round of circuits.. All up we did about 6. One was a little heavy on touch down, also a little high.. but very happy anyway. Monday is next round. So happy. Dave
  7. Great Footage Rach, love the side wing view. I bet your pleased to be flying on your very own.. Well done. Dave
  8. Patrick, just on 7 hours now. Rach, i know i will be doing heaps of circuits, so had better enjoy them. Let you know how it all goes on Friday.
  9. Well the stalls lesson was today.. perfect day for flying, quite still and very little aircraft around. REX landed and was preparing to leave not long after we took off. Headed over to training area climbing to 6000 ft and finding a nice clear area to do the first of many stalls. I have to say, i didnt feel at all nervous, although after the 1st one, i certainly had a weird feeling. haha. Throttle off and pull up, waiting waiting waiting, oh heck there it is. 800 ft a minute we managed, nose down and powerr up.. we must of done about 6 or so. Climb again, carb heat, throttle open. Pull up, hear we go again. then PIC decided to pull wing over on me (he did warn me ), get me used to using rudder to counter act. After a few more of those i got better at recovering. Jabs are good, from what i hear about Cessnas, they shake rattle and roll almost. I guess i have to wait and see when i get into one. We had some spare time, so PIC said we can start on circuits.. which will be the next 6 lessons from Friday.. I will admit quite excited about all this, why i didnt start earlier i havent any idea. Better late than never. The circuits, preparation, landing, flaring, touch n go. so much to learn yet im keen. Keep watching this space. Dave
  10. Apparently he tried but couldnt keep altitude.. hitting power pole near school.
  11. Reports saying was AIRTEX Aviation in Sydney.
  12. News just seen on TV that a light plane has crashed in Sydney near Bankstown.. so sad to see..
  13. Thanks Rach, sure is good to share experiences along the way of us newies.! I was so looking forward to doing stalls, even was told would go up in the J230 with full glass cockpit.. damn weather. Anyway, instructor said will go up in it next week with weather hopefully better. Its like snow up here, freezing! With the stalls, on my first flight we did one, so i had an idea of what to expect and didnt feel that bad. Especially since the Jab doesnt drop a nose or wing, watch the VSI and whoa, yeh we are dropping, but it doesnt feel like it! Stable plane i have to say! I guess we find out when i fly next week. My instructor is also a member of this forum, he put me onto it! Hope your flying is going well. Love your videos.. Will organise to have one setup prior to my solos ! Dave
  14. Hey all, thought it was time to move my flying progress to this area. Had a great lesson yesterday, doing all turns, 360's. 90's, 180's all good fun and learnt alot. Love how the jab is so easy to fly! Perfect day in the sky, sun in the eyes on the occasion, soon rectified that. Supposed to have lesson today with Stalls in the J 230, due to weather closing in on us around 1pm, that wasnt happening today, especially having to climb to 6000.. Its freezing up here today, down to 5 deg and feels like 2 deg. We helped the 230 pilot put it away in hangar and called it a day. Guess will wait until next week for the stalls lesson.. Dave
  15. Thanks heaps Dave for the pointers.. certainly sits in my head now with my checks. Not sure if my instructor would do so, its a good idea to keep us learners on our toes! How do others pre flight their aircraft ?? Dave
  16. Gday Mick, Always learning, never stop thinking of what each day brings me! The preflight basically starts with an overall check of cowlings, wings, flaps, landing gear, oil, prop damage, fuel (if water found) , make sure all the covers come off the intake for engine, pitot, etc.. Im still learning, but getting used to what needs to be done before each flight. The instructor i find is very good, good feedback and easy going person, no problems with questions if you need to ask, which i do. At the moment i dont seem to be having a problem with topics, mind you i just bought the Jim Davis PPL book, a great book for all new pilots. After the theory on Wed and Thu, i was happy to re read back through what we had done . I find the jab a very responsive and easy plane to fly so far! I like the idea of the stick in the middle, comfort wise very good. I am still yet to land, but i dont see that being far away at the present!! Fingers crossed. As i mentioned , Jim Davis book i now have, very practical and demonstrated very well, the layout is good with plenty of stories advising of what can and may happen if you dont abide by the instructions. It advises to read the next lesson in the book prior to attending your next flight instruction. I have another flight this coming Wednesday, maybe 2 in the week if time allows. Loving every minute of it. Dave
  17. Welcome Chris, good to hear another flying starter joined the group.. I also started flying a few weeks ago. 4.5 hours up only. Im learning in a Jab 160.. its such a thrill. Keep the updates coming with your progress. Cheers Dave Bathurst
  18. Welcome Sam, great to see such a young pilot and also in a Jab.. Best of luck with your RAAF screenings. Would appreciate you letting me know how to mount the camera in the Jab for upcoming flights. Dave
  19. After missing out last week, had a morning flight with almost perfect weather, sunshine out as we went over the theory of todays lesson. I then went out to preflight the Jab, i will get used to this without needed the cards to look through. Then it was onto the run up etc, taxiing down runway, finally got hang of the feet steering thing, then it was take off we go using RWY 17 today.. PIC had me doing turns, straight and levels, start of leaning circuits. Flew over Ben Chifley dam towards Rockley, a few 360 turns and back to airport. I pretty well setup for landing back at 17 and 200 ft from ground PIC took control with myself feeling controls as he landed. I finished off by doing the landing roll out and taxi , shutdown at hangar. What a day!! Tomorrow we are looking at climbs and decends, possibly more on circuits as well. Fingers crossed for weather. Dave
  20. Hey Rach, Congrats on your solo, i can hear the excitement in your voice and its many days later, although i am sure you are very much on a high. Thanks for the video as well, great to watch. I will make sure i setup a video camera also for my solo and circuits. Keep up the good work.. My next flight is tomorrow, had one this morning and loving it. Dave
  21. Hi Smokey, thanks for the heads up, what a great idea! I will plan to get down there when im rostered off work. I had a look through the tour and wished i had known about it along time ago. Dave
  22. Good to hear your also learning in a Jab.. im back for another lesson in morning, then again on Thursday, pending weather which is heading Bathurst way once again. I missed lesson last week, so keen to get back into it.
  23. Thanks to all the good replies.. for many years i visited Sydney and took camera and got some unreal pics of jumbos, A380 etc. I sure have learnt a lot of jargon over the years of constant listening to ATC. It will help me alot with the local circuits when i start soon. The live atc online is helpful, i did actually stream my setup live for quite many years, problems with pcs and so many people wanting to listen, will eventually find a good plan and start to stream again. I have heard so many interesting conversations on the local CTAF. I do remember one year, when there was severe fog at Bathurst on car race day, possibly planes, jets , you name it on a holding pattern from approx 7 or 8000 ft up.. a smaller aircraft had requested to slip in lower , from what i can gather, a lear jet pilot blurted out, get in line like everyone else. It was the best listening ,most aircraft had to turn around and go back home as fog wouldnt let anyone land. ! Im unable to post website until its completely fixed and i have rebuilt it again.. Painful excercise. Dave
  24. Hey all, I had posted this topic a couple of days ago, had to be removed as i hadnt realised by website had been hacked.. in process of fixing now. Now back to topic.. I have had radio scanners most of my life, being very keen on listening to ATC here in Bathurst. I installed a good antenna and can hear all re broadcasted transmissions . 133.05 Brisbane Centre, 122.75 Melb Centre and 118.5, 135.25 FIS all loud and clear! Of course can hear most CTAF etc Bathurst where im training, 127.35. Anyone else keen on listening to ATC after hours when not in aircraft... Dave
  25. Due to bad weather this week, didnt get a chance to fly yesterday, booked in for 2 lessons next week, pray for good weather! I was busting to get back in the Jab.. Hope all those new pilots are having a ball like i am! Dave
