    Hey everyone, last Tuesday I have finally completed my X Country endorsement.. CFI asked me to plan YBTH, Burraga, Cowra, parkes and back home! Weather was , not the best, wind was about 12 knots at 270.. cloud was approx 6000 ft. Anyway.. i prepped the Jab230, fuelled up, all my nav charts, ersa, all the usual! Took off approx 12pm, heading south to Burraga, only 33 nm , then a turn to the west to Cowra, 2 landings in Cowra with a 30 min break, which wasnt too bad, break it up! Then it was tracking direct Parkes, CFI says when im abeam Gooloogong, head for home. A forced landing done near blayney and then back to YBTH.. Very happy to have this done.. Sitting on 156 hrs total now! Now where can I have my 1st flight away! Dave

    God i was shocked when i read this!! Poor girl, model and all that and now scared for life..! Hope she recovers ok.! I never let anyone get out without prop being off. !

    Been way too long since updating this thread. I have done all my required Navs, approx 14 hours, but with a few things getting in my way, havent done my theory or flight exam as yet. I still have been flying each week, clocked up 140 hr now. I plan to get this Nav done next week, then will be free as one can be. Navs sure are fun, i was so happy to do a 3 hr SOLO nav in August from YBTH -YORG, - Narromine and Dubbo, return to Wellington and Bathurst. IN all my flying, you do learn something each and every day, including some very high traffic days at Bathurst, such an experience fitting in with everyone , i find stay professional and make your necessary calls, its easier than one first thought.     Hey all, just purchased the above camera, GPS , Cockpit audio recording also. Just wondering if anyone on this forum has one and if they have it mounted in a Jab 230. The camera sure is an improvement on the GO pro, the technology of the lens now makes the propellor dissapear. IM yet to try it out, but once running, you can view what your looking at via an APP on Iphone prior to starting recording (Bluetooth) , even adjusting the rec mode and lighting , frame rates.     Yes they sure do talk fast Doug, i have been listening to ATC for years, thank god, cause i think it certainly has helped me understand some terms when learning to fly. I can also pick up 122.75 Bris Centre from my place too, but way too busy for my purpose of stream. CTAF can be quite busy at Bx , alot of training aircraft. Bathurst really needs a proper taxi way for Runway 17/35, can wait upto 10 min if your caught as 17 being the active runway. I dont think any more money will be spent now there are new PAPI lights installed each end, also new taxi lights . (approx $400,000) worth.

    Hope everyone who has logged in has enjoyed it so far. Next week with the Bathurst 1000 races coming up, this frequency will be very busy. ON Sunday 9th Oct, Day of race, expecting 3 x EMB 170 and possibly a G550 to land , which i witnesses last year, what an amazing JET. I saw 12 people get off, walk across tarmac, over to back of carpark and into 2 Nice Choppers to take them to Mt Panorama. I will possibly put up 120.8 which is the Mt Panorama Command chopper frequency. Busy time of year.

    Just saw the news , 2 have died , the pilot a 65 yo man from Yarrawonga and a 15 yo girl, a woman in hospital with serious injuries. Very sad...

    So many musos.. i also play piano, but not my main job.. did my apprentice ship with energy authority 1987.. been working as a sparky for most of my life, wiring houses, jails, large commercial buildings. Back at energy company since 1998 now working in a control room, monitoring power outages, dispatching jobs. Been in this job now 13 years. Rather be in doors now apart from flying! Summer time our busiest times with storms..

    Thanks for the pics.. I am actually suprised nothing has appeared on ATSB website, thought it was required to be reported within 72 hours.. ? Especially since the aircraft did so much damage. ?? Anyone shed more light on this ?

    HI Maj, thanks for the information, never seen underneath the sprayers.. keen to see how it all works. You are right, lucky the wire broke , 1 km of conductor they are putting back up now. I will try and get name and type of aircraft he was flying for you.. Will PM the details . Dave

    Ive since talked to our staff who are back out making repairs (630am this morning) to 7 span of conductor ripped down. He has talked to pilot who noticed he had hit power lines, damaging a pump which is used for spraying of chemicals. He was due to land as had run out of chemicals so plane was light. Pilot was back up in the air 90 min later spraying after making repairs to pump. I would assume he must report to ATSB since so much damage was made to our network, a large cost factor with 10 or more staff to make repairs, people without power etc. Hope will have some photos of this incident in the coming days.

    While at work today (energy company) got a call of power lines down.. when field staff arrived found extensive damage to power lines, poles, cross arms. Witness reported seeing a crop duster hit power lines and fly off. Not sure if he knew he had hit them or not. Still havent seen any news reports of this accident since it occurred at 12pm. A very lucky pilot! Could of been so much worse.

    There are quite a few schools with gliders then.. I will be heading out for a flight in a 230 later today.. shall see how busy a Friday afternoon can be. Weather looks pretty good too.

    Just wondered how many other schools /airports have Glider ops during school holidays.. YBTH (Bathurst) - at the moment its gliders galore, GA and RA aircraft sharing the air. Listening to CTAF the other day, it was busy. It didnt help that the main runway was in active due to new lighting being installed , only opening for REX to arrive and depart. I believe its open today. Right Circuits for GA and RA, left circuits for gliders. What are peoples view here.. ! it certainly doesnt worry me, great for the Air cadets all learning how to fly.

    I recently took a guy for an hour or so in a J230, in his 60's and quite ill. His son in law asked if i could take him, suprise flight. He hadnt any idea. The look on his face, the lack of conversation as he stared at the window was priceless. He apparently talked about it for days afterwards. I luckily had my Go pro camera also handy and recorded the flight for him. You cant ask for money with suprises like this.!

    I have taken quite a few people for a fly, not once have i asked for payment, doesnt mean they havent passed me some dollars.. all rewarded and they loved it..

    I remember a flight recently in the J160 where I had 40 knots tail wind, GS was 133 knots, quite suprised at 5000 ft. Heading back to aerodrome, took forever to get home , as it was now a headwind. I was the same, i had to power it in at 2200 revs as GS was 55 knots. I landed like i was floating, thankfully winds were on the nose for the main runway.. Phew.

    After all the BOM stuff up you had to take Rex, then i fly you around Bathurst for awhile.. wasnt a bad day... im sure you will get another chance for a Nav to YBTH, make it a couple of days and we can be host..
