  2. That is pretty sad to hear. Feel for their families. This could of been same chopper my wife and i took a joyflight in around April last year over cessnock.

  4. Update 18 Jan 2011 Plenty of flying has been done since last update.. mainly using J160 with Pax around Bathurst/ Oberon/Blayney areas, keeping that 25 nm limit in mind. Some of the days have been brilliant, with some interesting traffic and plenty of it during my flights, passengers enjoyed it immensley also. The more traffic at the moment the better, its good practice for radio calls, separation, joining circuits, looking out . Really is good to be able to do this all completely on my own. I do learn something different each day. I try and join circuit different each flight for practice, also using x wind landings as well, if not too strong on the day. Handy having a X strip at Bathurst when needed. I have now clocked up 62 hours (22 of those PIC) , starting my Nav Course on 1st Feb, Central West Flying holding a 3 day course which will be very interesting. I do love flying the J160, little easier to control speed compared the J230 beast.. I am sure the 230 will become just as easy the more i fly it. Until next time, will advise how Nav course was. cheers Dave p.s. forgot to mention, shouted myself to a Lightspeed Zulu Headset, now let me say, UNREAL. The engine noise is rather quieter now, the comfort level is HIGH. If you ever wonder what these are like, take it from me. Fantastic. !
  5. Update 22 Dec Well , after obtaining my Pilot Cert, PAX etc on Nov 19th, have taken a few people up on some local flights in my area of Bathurst. Everyone has loved the experience of being in a small plane seeing the world from a different view. I have done approx 5 hours in the J230 so far, next flight will be solo i hope so then i can take this on my own and then eventually pax. Suprising the difference in the 160 after flying the 230. I took a friend for a flight today, one of the best days ive flown in , especially since we have had major rains and high winds for some time now. Ive now clocked up 57 hours, enjoying every minute of it. Our flying club has organised a Nav Course in Jan 2011, which i have booked into. My Navs will start next year, really looking forward to that. Bring on the next chapter. Dave
  6. What a great topic and good information people! Im going to head down the path of PPL once my Navex are completed, then possibly looking at the instructors rating as well. PPL is needed as a few places i want to fly , are in Controlled airspace, seems the right way to go. I love learning in the Jabs, just today stepping into the J230 after 50 hours of the J160, which is a unreal plane to learn in. I will keep flying both to stay proficient in both. Learning continues, so does the fun. Dave
  7. Thanks everyone.. Today took another passenger, my mother visiting from QLD, flew her over Oberon where she grew up. It couldnt of been a better day, calmer than yesterday as well. I start in JAB 230 tomorrow, look forward to the Navs. So much more learning, really looking forward to it.
  8. Thanks everyone, yes Bianca sure did like it. I couldnt of asked for a better day. Thanks to Rach and Rob for flying in and catching up too.
  9. Well done mate, thats fantastic. I start my Navs very soon. So looking forward to Nav solo..
  10. Hey all, just advising all tests passed and now have my pilot certificate.. To celebrate took my wife for a fly around Bathurst , Oberon area. So very happy and it was a brilliant day in Bathurst as well, Plenty of activity around Bathurst with sky diving drops . What a day. Dave
  11. yes Dave i have, but not allowed to take anyone until all tests are completed, once BAK completed and recommendation sent off by CFI for Pilot Cert.
  12. Im upto 48 hours, with 13 hours solo, i only have BAK to complete and will be licensed and able to take pax up. I did alot of solo flying so when i was licensed, would be ready to take pax. Im not worried in getting license as quick as possible, i feel like my training has been extremely thorough with the utmost care in making sure all was completed in a timely manner. I did my 1st solo in 20 hours, i am happy with how i have progressed, even if I have flown more prior to obtaining my Pilot Cert. Bathurst airport is very lucky, great weather most of the year and good training areas. The instructors held a couple of day courses for Human Factors, also for NAVs, which i am soon to attend. Im interested in how some of the flying clubs sylabus flows from one club to another? Dave
  13. Report for story here. http://www.westernadvocate.com.au/news/local/news/general/pairs-lucky-escape-from-glider-crash/1991291.aspx?src=rss
  14. Thanks for all the info everyone, really helpful. I have done all necessary tests and Pax tests, flying etc, only have BAK to do this week and all ready to go. Bring it on!
  15. I havent yet asked him, i have heard of cases were it has been permitted. If that was so, should be ok for all. ?
  16. I have wondered this since im almost licensed with Pilot Cert, can we and are we allowed to fly as Licensed if CFI has passed the student, or must we wait to get license back from RAA AUS? A friend recently received his Pilot Cert, took 2 weeks to get back in mail. Hope someone can answer this ? Thanks Dave
  17. A windy day at Bathurst doing Circuits In Jabiru 160 using runway 08, wind was 12 knots at 070 deg. http://www.recreationalflying.com/forum/vbtube_show.php?do=tube&tubeid=497&name=circuit-training-bathurst-jabiru-160-ybth-6th-november-2010-piloldave69

  21. Just heard on radio scanner, 2 persons on board Glider Crashed - Bathurst - Pipers Airfield. emergency services on way .
  22. Youtube Clip of Bathurst Circuits A clip i made up from my flight on Saturday doing Circuits. cheers Dave
  23. Rob, this is unreal! I just purchased one myself, have a 32 gb card and 16 gb card came with camera. Have you used the camera inside cockpit much? I am flying again on Friday, might see if i can try it out. Well done on the video.. Bianca has a MAC< so will be able to edit.. Dave
  24. Hi Pete, join the club, nearly all of my glides were better than powered landings.. what the big difference is, no chance of floating and getting power off and flare right, well thats what i think anyway. Each time i had to do forced landings, touch downs were unreal. Strange hey.. Wonder how many people are the same! I have nailed the powered landings now, but at the beginning, thought was strange. My instructor is also a gilder pilot, we did many glides in the Jab 160.. What are you flying ? Dave
  25. Thanks all, had a solo circuit fly today which was quite enjoyable, no one in air with me either, had aerodrome to myself. ! I will fly again on Friday if weather stays away. Studying for the BAK , should be ready for test next week.
