So whats this rumor im hearing about recreational pilots possibly soon being able to fly up to 10000ft instead of our current 5000ft? Quite interested if this is to be true!

Yea thats all well and good, but not really an option when still travelling at 60kts and nosewheel hasn't even settled yet. I believe that it could have been simply avoided if the RFDS plane extended downwind or circled/ weaved on final.

Ive had a close call with the RFDS. I was doing circuits at YPIR (Port Pirie) building up my solo hours when she entered circuit with me. I was just turning base as she was entering, i'm flying a Jabiru J160 so im a bit slower than her. Before i knew it i was lined up on final and she had just called turning final. I had done all my radio calls correctly and assumed that she extended her downwind leg. I no sooner touched down when she asked me to expedite. I was still cruising along with the taxiway on the other side of the runway so i couldnt really just exit and i wasnt going to go any faster as i would almost takeoff! I replied 'negative'. The radio fell silent for a few seconds then she finally said 'RFDS going round' Phew i thought. All of the sudden a loud roar buzzes only a few meters above me. She could have landed right on top of me if she wanted! i must say a few colourful words were muttered quietly. I continued my taxi back to my instructor, when i hopped out i asked her what happened with the RFDS plane. She was astonished with how close the RFDS actually came to me before actually deciding to go round. From where she was standing she thought it was no more than 6m clearance. When the RFDS did eventually land they came over to the flight schools building and sincerely appologised for the incindent and had said that she had misinterpreted the aircraft i was flying and therefore thought that my approach speed was higher. They werent in a hurry as no patients were yet on-board and they still had to wait for the ambulance to come to the airport. Not everyday you get buzzed by the RFDS! :raise_eyebrow:

Blackrod, Yep! i havent received it yet as i only ordered it about 4 days ago but i was only charged $6.97 Australian. The postage details on its listing also confirm that it is free postage. It is flown out from Hong Kong i think.:thumb_up:

there was a slight crosswind but the main problem was moderatlely severe turbulence, amplified by the sealed runway. I struggled to lose the desired altitude, the plane just wouldnt sink!. the approach angle isnt to counter the crosswind, it is a slideslip in an effort to lose altitude. I still managed to land smoothly but a bit further into the runway than i would have liked, and slightly off the centreline. G'day Dave, thankyou very much, im starting to get nervous for them now though haha I havent actually mounted a camera anywhere other than in my passengers hand lol. Most of my filming is from my passengers. Although i am considering velcroing the camera to the part just behind the pilots head near the headset holsters. Or making a simple bracket using PVC and once again velcro so that it sticks to the plane. You can buy little velcro stickers from cheap as chips. Hope ive given you some ideas to mount your camera! G'day my name is Sam Thomson and im a 17 yo pilot from Port Pirie, South Australia. I fly the Jabiru J160-D and love every second of it. I was also wondering if anyone knew of any fun airstips to land at in SA, or any upcoming Fly-ins. I recently flew my brother and i to the Cummins airshow and fly-in. Depending on the airstrip surface and if there are any obstacles i would be happy to land a J-160 on a 400m strip and have room to spare. Although i think the J-230 would have more get up and go and also can carry more luggage. However i have flown the J-160 at 55kts for a shortfield landing and have no complaints about its handling at that speed. Both are good. And the 430 can be even nicer for a VH pilot :) 105m strip you may want a 30kt headwind though haha.
