    the Cyclone is a Canadian kit plane, based on the C 185. I have been told there is someone in Brisbane importing or building the kits? I found a reference to a dead website for a Brisbane company that talks about it using a VW TT2200'engine, but the Canadian one uses a Contintental as this is not actually small. Anyone know if there are actually any in Australia and in Brisbane? Cheers Ryan

    I was told there were 170 aircraft there. There were a lot of people and always something going on. Lots of caravans and campers too. Well worth the trip.

    It took me 3.5 hours to go solo and be signed off in a C172, which with the paperwork got me the RPL. I then continued and did the PPL, which was mainly just controlled airspace and navigation again. Even though I had the navigation endorsement I needed to be on a PPL standard and in reality I was rusty. It took about 15 hours. It will depend on you, some do it in very little, I took a bit more as I retrained in many things.

    Cessna booked. Just got to find my tent. What is the Avgas situation like there? Easy to get fuel or best do it somewhere nearby? Same for food and drink, is it all just burgers or do I need an esky?

    Completely agree. This was taught early in my training and I include it with other basic good manners my parents taught me. Here is another: yesterday morning at YCAB a plane was on a close base, I was waiting to enter the runway, a warbird was waiting next to me for his turn. Then a motor glider comes along and rolls straight onto the runway and takes off, and actually makes a call saying "I'm cutting in". Manners maketh the person.

    Got a C172 booked for it. It will be my first. What is the camping like, under the wing or in a seperate camp? If under the wing I am sure I can make a palace from tarps.

    i just want to make sure about this. Amberley is class C but only when active right? So on a weekend if they are closed, I should be able to fly over the top on my way from Redcliffe to Warwick, without clearance? It just reverts to G? It just seems odd they let a recreational bug smasher fly over the top of an airforce base just because it is a Sunday!

    over 15 years ago I trained in what was a 2 seat high wing taildragger with the registration ZS-WSC. This was at Bapsfontein in South Africa under Sandy Kirkpatric, at Freedom Flight School. For the life of me I can't remember the manufacturer of that kit built airplane and I can't find it on a register. I assume it no longer exists. Anyone know how to look up and old registration please? Cheers Ryan

    I have an RAAus Pilot Certificate, and the time is approaching for me to do my BFR. However a few months ago I passed the PPL flight test and now have a PPL too, so am flying both RAAus and GA aircraft. A GA pilot has told me not to bother with the RAAus BFR, as the PPL counts instead, in the same way if you pass an RAAus endorsement you are effectively reviewed and don't need to do the BFR. Given GA and RAAus are quite separate I am not sure if that is true. I suppose I would need to tell RAAus that I have a PPL then. Do they even care? Anyone experienced this?

    Any GA school should do it as part of the RPL. There was no cost.

    But you will most likely have to complete the school's BAK so that they know you understand weight and balance. There is getting the RPL, then there is being checked out to be able to use it, which could include many things. It is very useful to do that BAK. If you want to go on to PPL you need it too.

    It is going to cost more to get those endorsements than just getting the PPL directly.
