very different, but interesting concept

Hi there, I have recently shifted bees between warialda and gravesend area and was wondering if their are any private airstrips locally. Living near lismore about 450kms by road to gravesend, was playing with the idea being able to fly out to check my bees, whether they need boxes etc. and flying back home in one day. One way to have some fun and work combine:) Also looking for bee sites around the tablelands,tenterfield glen innes inverell area etc. As theres not much flowers on the coast this year. We stop at innamincka for a break on the way to marree.Refuel at marree and the fuel chappie said if we had to refuel at innamincka it would have cost $3 ltr avgas and you could only buy it by the 200ltr drums,what you could'nt use you had to leave behind,only to be fill up again and resold.I had trouble believing this,and this scam goes on,but maybe someone could enlighten me.Could always get a 20ltr container and go to the servo for premium unleaded $1.90.Different world out there and different laws lol just joking i think.Can't wait to get back out there:big_grin:

Hi there,when i started learning to fly,you could pay by the hour or well what i payed $2200 up front to get me up to solo stage.which is the way i went as i did'nt want to watch every hour and lose that enjoyment.It's hard when your starting out,no regets but you get to an age where you want to live a little.It's no use getting down the track and sayin wish i done this and that.As flightygirl said you only here once...Yea i know it's sometimes not easy lifes a battle.Had a few mates around for a beer so hope all this makes sense...:ah_oh: I'm confused ah ah

Yea know wayne not a bad idea,but thinking one day swapping a fly in the jab for a fly in the drifter with someone.play it by ear.

I did think about doing a story of the trip for the RAAus,but never been a pen 2 paper guy it was a thought though.Never been to good with words,maybe a another time.I'm sure it's been done many times but it's something i would like to do in the future :confused:Yea i believe thats what my mate said,getting back to the roots,real flying...drifters....:)

Thanks Blackrod, Had the choice of taking the 170 or the 230,went with the 230 for extra power and luggage room and being a bit more stable in the air.Only two faults I could pick,one being 6'2 does not alow me to put cushions on the seat so found the seat a bit hard on the back side,but was'nt really a big deal as stop every 2 to 3hours for a break.By the end of the trip i reckon my backside was harding up lol.Second problems starting the motor in the mornings as temp was around 0 degrees,having to take the cowl off every morning and spend 15 mins slowly pouring hot water over the block and cylinder heads,then it start straight away but not good for an early start.Apart from that could not fault the plane anywhere else.It is a pleasure to fly and would love to own one.....As for the trip it just blew me away and can't wait to do it again,next one hoping to be up to longreach etc.But for now back to work...cheers...

Giday Frank, There must be something about drifters,I have a mate who flys GA,but saids his favorite plane to fly was the drifter,and one day would like to get one again.Have heard similar stories from other pilots,and yes would love to have a crack at it one day 2 see what it's all about....Cheers...

Interesting read,Not long back from a trip in a 230,nearly every morning spending 1,1/2 hours taking the cowl off,pouring hot water over the cylinder heads and block,then she start no worries,frustrating not good for a early starts.:confused:

Never had much time for the media,Pilot error maybe?pushing the drifter past it capabilities?Maybe he had been warned that the plane was not rated to be push so hard?Hope I'm not out of line,and new to the forum...Cheers...

Gi'day,well um started flying around three years ago,spend about 15 years flying R/C B4 I got married and always had an interest in planes from an early age.Became a workaholic and with family,many things went on hold as they do.Anyway got my license about two years ago now and love it,just come back from my first big trip out to lake ayre flying a jabiru 230 and had a ball can wait to do it again,also part owner of a 170.Other hobbies include bowhunting,surfing and for work I'm a beekeeper thanks for reading and cheers....guy small....:)
