  1. Hi Ossie, Welcome to the site. I did my ppl training at CAmden in a J160 VH registered then bought a J160 and had it registered RA-Aus. I love the absence of beauracracy of that organisation. I love having the rewards that come with a PPL. Enjoy the comradship on this site. Cheers, CAZZA
  2. Steve, Anyone who is a L2 can attend an L2 workshop. Am trying to get funding for L1 workshops throughout the country at the moment. Will let you know. Cazza
  3. Whatever piloting shortcomings these instructors pass on to their students likewise get passed on to subsequent future students in a repeating cycle of flight instructional mediocrity that has been going on since grandpa returned from the Big War. . This is an interesting observation. The research on where prospective teachers learn their teaching skills suggests that their own teachers are their role models and that they actually do instruct the way they were instructed. That means good techniques can be passed on, but also can poor teaching be passed on. This has a research basis, fortunately, or unfortunately. CAZZA, PHD in education
  4. Hi Desk PIlot, Workshop is full, but pop in and have a cuppa at MT or lunch. If you are interested in a DVD of a jabiru workshop, check the RA-Aus bulletin board on the RA-Aus site for details. CAZZA
  5. Am organising a L2 maintenance workshop at Mike's hangar on 14th of June, so I'll probably fly in on Friday 13th and be there on the 14th. We'll be using the Windsock lounge too. Drop in and say G'day. I'll probably be the only female pilot there. CAzza
  6. We'll be in Temoria because its a museum flying weekend. Come on up and see the RV (AND MY JAB!!!). Hangar with the orange windsock. By the way, Jill instructs for RA-Aus, not GA to my knowledge. CAZZA
  7. Hi Ian, She was at Scone for quite a while, but when I was last in Maitland, they were using her for training there. She's like me, she gets around. Cazza
  8. Hi Damien. Welcome to this forum. I fly out of Temora, in fact we live on the airpark. I fly a J160, but my husband is determined to get me in an RV12. He sent ne to Sun'N'Fun in Florida to fly one. Nice aircraft. It fits into the lSA category, 600 kg, so it could be registered RA-Aus unless you put too much stuff in it and go over the weight limit. He'll be building my RV12. He built his RV6, so the 12 should be a snack. Drop in for a cuppa when you are in Ytem. CAZZA
  9. Andrew, I have about 250 hours in a Gazelle. I owned one for about 18 months. I named her Cazza. She lives at Maitland Aerodrome and is used for training there. I really loved her and if she could hold more fuel and go a bit faster, I would never have sold her. When I get too old to do long cross countrys, I'm going to sell my Jab and get another Gazelle to fly around here. Cazza
  10. welcome oslj. Would be a big change to go from airline flying to recreational flying, but hey, lots of people do it. What kind of recreational a/c are you thinking of? No good asking me. I learned on a Gazelle, then transitioned to a J160 Jab. So I guess I'm kind of biased. Cazza
  11. Hi Graeme. I'm a fellow jab pilot. I love the J230s but my budget would only stretch to the J160, but hey, she's a beauty. Welcome to the forum. Cazza
  12. Welcome tassytriker. I have a few hours in a trike myself. Great fun, but hard work on the old brain when you are used to flying a fixed wing. Love the challenge. Cazza
  13. Welcome Bretto and good luck training for your CPL. This is a great website and you'll find nice supportive pilots here. Cazza
  14. Welcome Steve L. How do you like flying the J170? I learned on a Gazelle which was great. I have transitioned to a J160 Jabiru and I love it too, but she keeps me on my toes. I will be at Murray Bridge in June, so maybe we'll catch up and tell some lies in the hangar. Cazza
  15. Welcome Andrew.B. I learned to fly on a Gazelle and they are a lovely forgiving aircraft. Welcome to RA-Aus. Cazza
  16. Welcome fellow jab flyer. Bendigo is a great place (i'm an ex-victorian). Hope you make it up to Temora some time. Its a great place for gliders and recreational aviators (and warbird enthusiasts and VH lads). Cazza
  17. Your nav adventures sound very like mine last week when I flew from Temora to Moree, to Lismore, to Boonah, to Port Macquarie, to Maitland, to Dubbo and then Temora. I have 400 + hours and whenever I look at my chart for 3 seconds, I end up 10 degrees off heading and 200 feet + or _ in altitude. Never mind, you never stop learning and it used to be worse. Cazza (another female multitasker)
  18. Welcome Dave. I used to live in the Dandenongs, so Lilydale is a good place to fly in and out of. I also fly a J160 and it took me a while to keep her on heading, at the right altitude, and check out my map during the navs. One of the secrets of good navs is to plan thoroughly before you get into the aircraft. I used to go through my nav processes while sitting at the kitchen table. There's so much to remember at first - but the more you do the paperwork, the more it becomes routine. Good luck. Cazza
  19. Welcome Marius, fellow Jab pilot. I also fly a Jab out of Temora where the weather is always fabulous (nearly). Congrats on finally achieving your dream. Pardon my ignorance. Where is Chincilla? Cazza
  20. Good on ya Blueline. Lets get more young people involved in flying. Cazza
  21. Send contribution to RA-Aus office in Fyshwick. If you are a member of RA-Aus, you will get a chance to add the $2 to your pilot certificate renewal. Thanks for the interest. Cazza
  22. Thanks for the offer, but the pics have to be digital. Scanning doesn't seem to produce publishable quality. Would love to see your collection of magazines. I am sure there are articles that would be great for RA-Aus historical collection. Cazza
  23. Dear Brent, You certainly are NOT upsetting me. I am seeking opinion because as a representative of the people I want to ensure I always present the thinking of the members and not my own. There are about three viewpoints and I think all organisations need to weigh up risks and benefits to members before leaping into any task of the magnitude of administering GA. So everyone is welcome to say what they think. I take no offense, just notes. Cheers, Cazza
  24. REsponse to HPD Hi Nev, I was just responding to this quote and wanted to let people know I am not from CASA but postulate on why I think it is being considered. Cheers, Cazza
  25. Feb 23 and 24 sound terrific if the wx is kind. I have been wanting to go to Echuca for ages and this is a good excuse. CAZZA
