  1. Well Done Motz, All the best wherever you end up. Phil
  2. Eric, Well done, Its a great feeling I know. You now get to enjoy the joys of the 25nm circle. I look forward to reading the blog of your Navs. Congrats Phil
  3. Great Stuff Brett, I just can't imagine how good it must feel (only about four years to go for me) What power plant did you put in your Aeropup? Phil
  4. Hi Graham, Welcome, lots of great info and great people here, you'll get to know the regular posters very quickly. Just be aware that the world on here seems broken into two camps Jabiru lovers and haters. For me they are what I learnt in and fly regularly (but I am just fickle and would fly almost anything on offer when it comes to it) Enjoy Phil
  5. Compulsion, Well done, you can count yourself amongst the few now. An awesome feeling and one you'll never forget. Congrats Phil
  6. A nice loving tribute to a life well lived. He would be proud of his sons work. Nice one Phil
  7. Hey Clouseau, I used the Dyson Holland "Recreational" Texts for my Pilots cert and X-country. I found it was good info in a logical format and has lots of revision questions and sample test questions as well. It breaks all the learning into small sections in a logical sequence ie: pre solo air leg, followed by pre-local area solo, radio, BAK etc Its worth getting the HPL supplement as well. Whatever you use will have the air leg basics in it, just it may be hidden in the greater font of knowledge rathyer than labelled as Pre-solo air leg. Phil
  8. Good Work Eric, Enjoy your new license to learn. Have fun in that Jab of yours and fly safe! Phil
  9. Dave, There are annual AIP Sups which state what edition of charts are current and provides the updates that should be pen ammended onto them (eg: for WACs its currently H74/11). I carry the AIP Sup and as part of my flight planning I review it for any changes applicable to the chart which I am using, If there are any changes within 50nm of my flight plan (including alternates/diversions) I then pen amend the change onto the chart. In my view this is adequate as otherwise you would be forever updating charts (Navy ships have a Nav Yeoman whose job is to ensure all charts are updated in a similar fashion) Hope this helps Phil
  10. Welcome Geoff, there's a wealth of experience and knowledge here for the asking (sadly, not from me) Are you still flying out of Polo Flat? Phil
  11. Loved the look on his face, says more than words ever could. Its a wonderful gift you have given to him. (somedays I still think thats how I look after I land). Phil
  12. Deskpilot, If you right click on the videoscreen in the original post, one of the options is "copy video URL" click on this and then paste into an email to your relatives, they can then click on the URL or cut and paste it into explorer and watch it direct on youtube. Hope this helps, if it doesn't, PM me a snail mail address and I'll burn to disc and post it to you for onforwarding. Phil
  13. PM me next time you are due a weekend off and we'll tee something up
  14. Robinism, I was at 8500' heading in (Kosciuszko is 7312') and 7500' heading back through Perisher Valley (5650') and around Blue Cow Terminal, which is at 6233'. Thought I'd stick with hemispherical rules above 5000' (funnily enough). It was a straight there and back to Polo Flat flight to keep it simple (1.4hrs) in all. Now I'm based in Canberra and wouldn't mind an invite to Goulburn to look at your lovely X-Air one weekend if you don't mind (subtle aint my strong point!) Phil
  15. Hi All, First attempt at a flying video from fridays flight. If the quality is dodgy it was taken on my Galaxy S mobile. I was happy with the flight, There was a gentle 10kt wind from the south (so no turb/rotors to scare me) and a nice high keeping the Alps clear so I managed to tick off flying myself around Mt Kosciuszko from my bucket list. I hope you enjoy Phil
  16. Nice flying Thomo, Looks like you're loving the solitaire ownership. Inspiring stuff, Thanks for posting, Keep it coming Phil
  17. I'd miss it if it was gone and take it up again too.
  18. Well done, much better than some of my landings I must say. At elast you have some footage I just have the memory burnt into my mind forever.. Lol Phil
  19. Well done Jenkin, You are now one of those who know what its like to fly one up in an aircraft and understand how sweet and precious that is. Congrats Phil
  20. Mardy, Great effort, she's looking very neat and tidy. Here's hoping the first flight goes as smoothly as that panel looks. Phil
  21. Gnarly, caught me out as well! I was working from ERSA and calling runway 05, whilst hearing others call 04 on CTAF. I kind of got the hint when I lined up on the numbers and saw it had been repainted 04.
  22. Agree with Boingk, runway 04 at Moruya is a great departure, you get runway followed by grass, beach, breakers and then ocean. Just make sure your personal safety brief includes the "start swimming" at the end of the ditching brief for engine failure under 500'. Lol
  23. No, it's on foxtel discovery at 8:30pm on thursdays Phil
  24. Well done Evan, it's a great feeling, I just passed mine a week and a half ago. It's a wonderful thing. Phil
  25. Loved all of season one and have season two on series link so I don't miss an episode. It's such a good mix of great flying with good people. They're an impressive family. Love it. Phil
