  1. Definately not Volksplane - they are all wood.
  2. Wise words....
  3. It is interesting to see the spread of scores....I suspect that it would be very difficult (read next to impossible) to muster the political clout to form a single body to manage recreational aviation in Australia. You would need to start with an already strong organisation and work up a very enticing proposal to be taken seriously by CASA and the wider government. Doesn't seem likely to me anyway. Ian, perhaps you need to a different poll. Try the simple options of "leave everything as it is (ie try to fix what we have)", or start anew with a competing organisation to manage the equivalent of current RA-Aus aircraft and certificates. There is too much noise in the questions above, and my ideas may well be incorrect but I just can't see the last two options being viable in the near future. One problem with surveying opinion will be the apathy that many people have referred to. Most members of the forum won't vote on the poll or express an opinion. Many more RA-Aus members won't express an opinion either.
  4. Nice shiner Dazz
  5. Surely there is a history of any amendments of the constitution?
  6. I'm not even a member of RA-As, and I would implore people to look carefully at what has been proposed and ensure that you vote, either personally or by proxy. Apathy has the potential to kill the rich history and current privileges enjoyed by the members. This is an opportunity to have a say, and if people don't have a say, then there can be no complaints about what results afterwards.
  7. And if Ian was managing to bring RA-Aus into disrepute with this site, then surely if RA-Aus was serious they would be taking steps to have the site closed down....or maybe there really isn't enough substance to support the "disrepute".....
  8. And that just confirms my long held theory....you go to an electrician's house, and notice the bare wires hanging from the wall. The mechanic's car is worn out and hasn't been maintained. The beauty therapist's husband needs a lot of attention, and manages to look like something from a horror movie!
  9. Yep, that picture just brought us all into disrepute
  10. Mmmm......polish sausage......
  11. Now that is an offer that no aspiring young pilot should turn down. It seems like there aren't many 210s on line for hire these days, and it would be a real experience. I bet you will get a few responses!
  12. Every time I read the title of this thread, I wonder what the discussion about "Pole-ish" might be.....polish food perhaps? Now that I have looked, I realise that there is nothing edible here :-(
  13. If I could like something twice, this would be it.
  14. Well, I think that there is a case for some enterprising person to establish a new organisation to manage recreational aircraft, and petition CASA for the same privileges that RA-Aus holds. It may be a lengthy but worthwhile process. I know that many people will say that it can't be done, but sometimes I think it is easier to start afresh and learn from others mistakes than it is to convince those others to learn from theirs.....
  15. I've flown the Cirrus SR22 a couple of times.....and didn't feel that it was for a brand new pilot. In fact, I didn't really like it much so wouldn't bother again. But things do happen a lot faster at 150 knots if your brain is still going 90 knots. When I checked out in the Mooney just after getting my PPL, I just knew that I was behind it so never bothered to try one again. Funnily enough I didn't have the same problem with the C210 later. Anyway, fly what makes you grin but stay ahead of it, whatever speed is showing on the ASI.
  16. Sooner will always equal cheaper, irrespective of who said or did what (when the legal eagles get involved).
  17. Andy is right - everyone who is a member and has an opinion should right now be ringing their reps and getting it across. If Ian has retained legal representation, then it is only natural to go for costs and damages. The likelihood of it ending up in court may not be that high due to the prohibitive costs on both sides, but one thing is for sure. This will be paid for by members funds in one way or another, and if members would like to see a speedy and less costly resolution, then it would be best if they started saying so formally. As I've said before, good luck Ian. I've been in a protracted legal battle regarding trademarks before, and it isn't a nice place to be. Edit: Ian answered regarding representation....
  18. Congrats - it is a big thing to make the wheels of bureaucracy turn in your favour.
  19. Nice find, I've sent off for another for my collection. Man, they look like Volksplanes...!!!
  20. Hmm....Ian had a current membership while running this site. Let the membership lapse, attempted to renew and was knocked back. Surely if this site was bringing RAA into disrepute, then there was a time to take up this matter with Ian in the past. Or do they (used in the general sense, substitute for "he" if appropriate) now have to explain why the site is fundamentally different now and currently causes disrepute, when it didn't cause disrepute previously? I'll echo what others like Nev have said - this won't end well for RAA and it's members irrespective of what happens. Good luck with it though Ian, I know that I would be pretty disappointed if someone decided to take away my privileges too.
  21. Is the RAA definition of cost sharing any different from the GA one? If so, as long as the pilot is contributing an equal or greater amount than the passenger, there is not usually a problem. I scored quite a few hours soon after getting a license with friends and family coming along to share some of the costs.
  22. Interesting...Graeme Geraghty was the CFI when I went through there about 13 years ago. I wonder who will step up? And as CFI, I bet you could even organise someone to make the coffee for you!
  23. Wow.....it's amazing just how quickly it all comes to a stop. You can see the high altitude effects - probably wasn't making as much power as was needed. Wiki suggests a 400kg payload at gross, but I'm tipping at that altitude it just wouldn't have been able to do it.
  24. Uh oh.....my 15 year old has started asking about lessons and joining a gliding club. I may have to sell the 12 year old to fund the 15 year old's hobbies! You have my sympathies
  25. My goal is to build my own. Still looking for the time, and physical space (too many bikes in the garage), but the start may not be too far away. It will probably only be a single seater, and not flash. But my theory is that if I can fly something at a reasonable cost most of the time, I can always hire something a little more fancy when needed.
