  2. Landed at Hamilton last week. 737 came in so hot we hit at about 2g then bounced. Full reverse thrust, lift dumped and brakes to avoid tumbling off the end into water. As Nev says, we had a close view of the tray tables. Landing pilot probably needs an eye check.
  3. Got a 120kts. Serviceable when installed in my vp2. Don
  4. Question: Has flying become too accessible? This may seem a ridiculous proposition but, with the increasing wealth of a section of population has it? We know that snow sports have become easier with snow boarding. Motor cycles are now popular as symbols of "freedom". Many enjoy the thrill of jetskis and even snapping pics of oneself leaning at impossible angles over the void on cliff tops is a "thing". Flying also has a certain cachet. We who have taken the hard road to flying qualification realise too well the invisible gap between safety and disaster and treat such with great respect. Some may be schooled to believe that everything is possible with our innate gifts of managing hazards. I am too often reminded of this situation when listening to work safety cynics. This is my attempt to make sense of the needless disasters we are confronted with all too frequently on these pages. I am not attempting to assign any directed blame, merely posing a question. Don
  5. Sapphire is pusher not tractor Nev
  6. Fair go Nev! I expect the chooks are properly thawed before being thrown into the engine🤣🤣
  7. Mid-air is my greatest fear in flying and naturally so. I've spoken to ga pilots who love IFR because of the awareness given through air control. Not fool proof ref the Kingair accident near Mansfield. See and avoid needs radio and ADSB assistance. This is an extreme example when a hugely experienced ATPL gets caught out. Numbingly sad, Don
  8. This discussion has some intersection with the "which radio calls" thread.
  9. Mine had a completely re-built wing, blue head 582, rear bulkhead, doors etc, etc. Flew well and safe.
  10. You had one mate🤣🤣🤣
  11. I've got a set, they need a bit of work but are genuine, Don
  12. Mate, this is a forum where individuals can state their views on topics of interest. No need to 'prove' expertise, readers are on their own in evaluating the relevence or value of stated opinions. Of course their will be disagreements and clashes of will but we maintain a civil tolerance - adds to the experience. Enjoy it and take from it whatever has value, ignore the rest. MOP rgds, Don '
  13. I once had a ride with Dick Nell in his Stampe out of Goulburn. He was once leader of Rothmans aerobatic team. He also owned a Tiger but the Stampe had ailerons on both wings giving a better roll rate. It was a fun flight mostly at low level.
  14. Spelled *Stampe* I think (damned Frenchies). Sorry again... Belgies. Rgds Don
  15. No law saying that you MUST occupy the l/h seat far as I'm aware.
  16. No, sorry for not stating, this is a Richard Sweetapple prop. It was standard equipment on a Skyfox. The owner changed to Rotax 912, I purchased the Aeropower from him to install on my Evans VP-2. It PERFORMED well giving 3600 rpm for initial climb, then 3200 cruise.
  17. Govt funding of 'private ed' gives them that wants exclusivity a publicly funded 'bunk-up'. It's like govt deciding to fund auto purchases with an across the board tip of the first $10,000. Makes the purchase of a Merc a little easier. Nothing to do with equality, merely helping Merc buyers at the expense of all.
  18. In our 'representative dumbocracy', ya don't always get what ya want. Plenty of money for super duper bike paths, courtesy entitled greens, but not much for airports. Interesting to follow the money (Snow=weather).
  19. Coroner's recommendations are just that, no obligation on bodies to comply. I know that politics enter into the mix, that's why I preface my conclusion with 'hopefully'.
  20. A coroner's inquiry is substantially to identify any 3rd person's probable culpability regarding a death. This case, as so many others, can only find that responsibility lies solely with the pic. Training can only point the pilot in a direction. Decisions are always subject to irrationality. This man was mature age and had a history of operation in risk prone activity. A leopard cannot change his coat. Hopefully no further restrictions will be levied on us arising from the palpably stupid actions of one 'pilot'.
  21. Luckily, the pilot, no spring chicken, was only a little shaken & bruised. Really unfortunate that he didn't quite make tha strip but airplanes are dispensable, we're not!
  22. Very wealthy nimbys say...over my corpse!
  23. Recreational forum... why speculate on dumb machines designed to kill indiscriminately?
  24. The Mt Beauty strip is operated as 1-way because of the embankment on the town end. It could have happened that approach was mis- judged and attempt made to go around. I dunno, just an idle opinion.
