  1. Thanks Merv, I'll do all that.
  2. Hi Merv, I have about 70 hours on my PPL and 70 on my RAA cert. My problem is I don't have my PPL logbok so all I can prove is that I have done the min req to get the PPL. So, I have a total of just over 100 hours total aeronautical experience and of those about 35 PIC in RAA. My reading is that I have met the min requirements but I was just checking here because instructors where I fly interpret that section differently.
  3. Hi All, Just after some clarification on my understanding of the requirements for an instructor rating. I understand I need either 75 hours PIC in an RAAus aircraft OR 100 hours aeronautical experience with at least 25 hours in an RAAus aircraft PIC. What I have is a PPL but I don't have my log book (long story!) and my PPL is restricted ie I never did my navs. So I can claim the min req to get a PPLR which is 33 hours. I also have about 70 hours total in RAA with about 40 of those PIC. Do I have enough to satisfy the flying experience part of the req? I know I need to do at least 20 hours flying instruction and 30 hours ground instruction. Thanks in advance.
  4. Yep they must have been aiming for that I reckon. Pretty cool though. I lived in teh states in the mid 70's and remember seeing the gliding tests of the "dummy" shuttle. I've now seen the entire program from beginning to end - amazing!
  5. Why couldn't they have landed yesterday?? 20 July 1969 - first man on the moon - 20 July - Last shuttle landing. Would have made it easier to remember :)
  6. Actually lubricating threads before torquing is a no-no as well. If you read the Jab SB dealing with the thru bolts you'll note they say to use the high strength loctite (can't remember the number off hand) and then torque up the bolts quickly before it goes off! That's going to be quite hard to do 'cause you have to get both sides on before you can torque them. Has anyone done this yet? Hard or impossible :)
  7. Well done Jake. These are the best times in flying when you're learning and everything is new so make sure you enjoy it - that's an order :) I too felt airsick on my first flight in an LSA in turbulence and haven't felt it since so you'll be right.
  8. I keep coming back to this - if Jab knew the bolts/nuts were well under spec and that engine failures were virtually guaranteed why didn't they change something long ago? The additional cost would have been nothing compared to a reliable engine - I don't get it. Unless it's not just about the bolts/nuts/dowels but something much harder to change is really the fault. Maybe the case halves won't handle much more "clamping force".
  9. I'll keep all that in mind if I ever buy a Jab. It sounds like it's worth the extra effort even for a brand new engine to balance it all up.
  10. Andrew have you done anything with the locating dowels in your engine? When ordering dowels from Jab now you have to provide the diameter of the holes so they can supply matched dowels. I believe the dowels supplied will be virtually an interference fit (which is going to make them very hard to get out again!) which is supposed to stop the movement of the case halves which is what ultimately causes the bolt breakage.
  11. I also wish to provide my support and best wishes to Andrew. You are to be congratulated for trying to improve what could be a GREAT aussie product!
  12. Geez with that Sav landing on that small strip in the bush - wouldn't want to have an engine failure on takeoff !
  13. I thought these through bolts were failing because they were loosening off thus allowing lateral movement which then fatigued the bolt - is that not correct?
  14. And another point - why would Jab not supply rolled thread thru bolts if they really are that much stronger? Is it a question of cost maybe?
  15. I was speaking to someone at Natfly about this and he reckons Rod Stiff told him the thru bolts supplied by Jabiru ARE rolled thread! Anyone know for sure? I'm no machinest but the standard Jab thru bolts threads appear to be cut to me.
  16. "Frank, If you take the time to go back to petetheprintas' first post (#1), you will see that his general question was what were necessary options that he could fit to his new aircraft" You said it yourself. I just don't think that comment re: jab engines was warranted or helpful.
  17. Good on you mate for not taking any notice of those guys. I like Jabs and will continue to fly and fix them. I have nothing against any of the other makes either I just like to support Aussie made stuff. I bet you can't wait to get your hands on your new baby?
  18. I work on and fly jabs primarily and we have our issues as well. I usually agree that Jab could do better but there are threads for those discussions. It's just annoying that the regular jab bashers spout this stuff everywhere including threads like this one where it really isn't constructive in any way. Sorry for jumping in Pete - back to your new jab now :)
  19. Guys, Petetheprinta has already bought his jab (by the sounds) so why come here and start the jab bashing? How about leaving at least one Jab thread alone!
  20. I ended up finding an unlock specifically for my GPS so all is good now. Installed on the flash memory and working well.
  21. I repair Jabiru props all the time as our aircraft are used for training and on a gravel strip. We find the damage is mostly related to the protective coating on the leading edges. The prop does get bruised by many small stone chips but as the prop is covered in glass it doesn't really affect the airworthiness of the prop - it just looks a little second hand. Not sure if these are the same as the wooden props fitted to Rotaxes though.
  22. No way I'll buy an Ipad. I guess we'll have to wait for someone else to take the plunge and develop for the Android.
  23. JK - just plug your phone into your computer with the suppllied USB cable and you can then choose from a menu on teh phone telling it to act as a disk drive - you can then see it in explorer (if using Windows) and you can drag the .apk file there. You will need to download an application installer app in order to install it though. There are plenty of free ones on the market.
  24. I agree and it all really comes down to which reference you are using - easy once you understand that.
