  1. SDQDI, I understand your sentiments exactly. I regularly take my wife and kids for a fly in our j400. I am fortunate to have done my ppl some years back and built my jab in expire mental category so is not expensive to run or maintain. Only have to do medical every 2 years but have no yearly rego fees. If we could have the same medical as in RAAus it would be ideal. Tom

    Resonance!

If it has fretting on c/case halves, only place to get it fixed would be Bundaberg ! 500 hrs ? Not a good run but not unusual.

    Resonance!

Jetjr, Bit difficult if it turns freely cold and tight when hot, we had the same thing happen here, when pulled down the cases had fretted, like I said back to Bundaberg.

    Resonance!

Engine being tight when warm is a result of crankcase fretting. Time to send it back to Bundaberg ! How many hours?
  5. Perhaps you have an electric AH? And vacuum turn coordinator? Best to ask someone close by to look at your aircraft and tell you what is what. Whirring sound is a gyro spinning, no spinny=no worky
  6. Interesting, I have a savannah in my hangar I'm doing some work on, I have noticed that trim tab has a lot of play, I will be investigating further of course. Your post is quite timely. It appears that it is loose on the actuator pivot.
  7. Thank you for your reply Don. I have also spoken with Darren and expressed my concerns. Tom
  8. Thanks Kasper, I don't get to read the mag until a friend who subscribes finishes with it and passes it on. Only have my phone, not pleasant to read mag on it. I did just looked at what you quoted though Tom
  9. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, my understanding, it seems the tech manager can write new tech manual without member input, have CASA approve it then present it to the board for approval. Once approved we the members must abide by it. Seems we are being dictated to. Please tell me I'm wrong. Tom
  10. Don that really did not answer anything, does the board have any input or know what is going on? If what Kasper refers to 19 building requiring 4 inspections, surely the members should have a say! VH exp only requires one inspection or are we going backwards to years gone by under amateur built category? What is the justification for extra inspections? It is not a CASA requirement. Tom
  11. Don, why is it that the soon to be released tech manual has not been out to be commented on by the members? Has CASA already approved it? or is it still drafting and open for membership comment? Tom
  12. What aircraft do you have? Has it been ok in the past on hot days? Tom
  13. Check with aircraft manufacturer, they are the ones to say yes or no.
  14. Your 'mechanic' should know if he works on light aircraft, best to talk to him.
  15. Before going to the effort if pulling things apart. How are the compressions? Turning by hand and also do a leak down. How old is the fuel? Had the same problem with a client who had fuel stored in hangar for a month or 2. Would start and run with choke on only, push choke in and engine would stop! Fresh fuel all fixed! Needless to say you must drain out the old fuel from carbs etc.
  16. Mogas availability is a concern, it has a very short shelf life ( a couple of weeks). If it is 'Too old' It can damage your engine. I usually buy Mogas from busy Sevice stations.
  17. Thecurrent Jab airframes with Rotaxengines which are only a few aretoo nose heavy and I have seen this first hand and spoken to the pilots and owners of that aircraft base at Caboolture...which I think hasbeen sold now. Jab need to make the necessary mods to make itcorrect for W&B then it would be a great bit of kit Mark, my rotax j400 came out balanced spot on. The j160/170maybe different but put a rotax in a j230 and they will sell a lot more than they are now Tom
  18. I have had 2 new pumps fail on the same aeroplane. Longest lasting went 17hrs next one only did 13 hrs on an aircraft with no elec back up. On the one of the pumps it failed to gravity feed and stopped, the other one had the engine surging slightly. I don't think much of the new pumps. Give me an old pierburg any day.
  19. You could run them in parallel. Why not keep the original mech pump ? Is it broken? Going to be 19 registered ?
  20. My 914 kept running when my main fuel pump stopped working and the other was off at the time. It did gravity feed( high wing) but at a lower power setting. 914 runs 2 elec pumps.
  21. 132'C ? Any body got a jab engine that does not go past 132'C especially climb out on a hot day? Really interested to know.
  22. Thanks. Change the screws to brass and probably fix the problem. Unless something else is also interfering. Tom
  23. Another sad day. Condolences to family and friends
  24. Definitely non ferrous mounting screws?
  25. Is it with both pumps on? Could also be fuel pressure regulator .
