Is this possible? Just reading a report in the Daily Telegraph today that a Qantas 737-800 travelling from Brisbane to Townville was forced to descend at 30metres (100 feet) per second. That works out at 1000 feet every 10 seconds? Official reports tracking data shows the aircraft dropped from 40,000 feet to 10,000 feet in 5 minutes. So my question is,Can a passenger jet descend at 6,000 feet a minute safely

Had to sit a Health and Safety exam and failed. One of the Questions was. "In the event of fire, what steps would you take"? F@#cK@#G big ones was apparently the wrong answer.
