Great day for Victoria today with Victoria topping Australia with NAPLAN results. I've been in Online schooling with my grandson every day from last year, and certainly a percentage of the students 9 and 10 yos left alone in bed fall behind, but the Victorian Education Department employed one on one tutors to bring those up to scratch by the end of Term 3 last year, passed virtually all students, then had the tutors return in term 1 for more one on one work, so virtually all were a match for their class by the end of term 1. One of the advantages of Online learning is the student doesn't have to cool his her heels waiting for all the queries to be addressed by the teacher, we go off and start our assignments, and those children come on line one by one, so most students get more done and that is probably the main reason for the above average results which came out on the same day that the Commonwealth Childrens Commissioner was peddling the line that a whole generation fo children had lost the year forever.

I hope you got good marks mate, don't let the boy down.

  2. Teachers union members trying to cover their Ars* I would imagine.

It's amazing how us older folk really appreciate how many times tables have assisted us in life.

I recently went to a shop and simply bought two items at $6 each and gave the young girl a $20 note. because the electronic till wasn't working, she ended asking me how much change she needed to give me.

    Morning All,

ONE aircraft noise winger (Judith Forsyth), who moved to our community about a year ago, has managed to get into the ear of a few councilors and now the whole airport and peoples livelihoods could go up in smoke.

  4. Don't worry too much DBZ1999.

    When I first started taking lessons many moons ago, I felt exactly the same when the instructor did the take offs etc;

As soon as he said "you have control", I concentrated hard on what he told me to do allowing me to do the flying, and the problem went away.

You are not alone, and i'm certain it will go away with a bit more flying.

Much the same in my boat.

  5. That looks great Phil.

Have thought of having a go myself, but even if camera is on tripod, over a three hour period surely the subjects would have moved over that period of time. Probably more so if hooked up to a telescope which would bring images closer.

Yea, don't laugh, I know I have a lot to learn, but I enjoy seeing what others have achieved.

Simplicity cannot be a word used in any description of cars,  that went out the door years ago.   EVERY car today has whizbang b/s features that are not needed to carry our backsides from one place to another.

IF you built a basic EV, without all the fancy stuff in it, it’s range could be 30% better.  Same for a basic aircraft, the Aerolite offers a basic platform that would be fun to fly.  I would bet IF you put them up to RAAus, they would probably can it 😞

Like so many things in life, I believe that generally, simplicity, is the essence of reliability.

  7. Sadly, an autogiro has come to grief in the Hunter Valley. 1 dead and the the other flown to Royal North Shore hospital in critical conditions with burns.

Hope and pray that he manages to pull through.

Condolences to all associated with the one who didn't make it.

  8. Shortly after arriving in Oz, I found myself out of a job and went through very tough times for a while.

With a young family, it was suggested that I seek a helping hand from welfare, but I couldn't bring myself to do it as I hadn't contributed.

Tough times can be a great motivator if you pull your finger out, but not everyone thinks the same.

40 odd years later having built a successful small business, i'd do the same again if I had to.

Prior to coming here, we were subjected to very thorough medical check ups. Maybe the standards have slipped?

The general health of the nation we are coming from, should also be scrutinised closely.

  9. Just remembered who told me the story about the young fellah who flew solo in a Tiger Moth to get training for an actual flying licence.

It was the late Rod Hay from Katoomba who many will remember. Lovely guy and sadly missed by many.

We shared lot's of laughs one weekend at a Narromine event.

  10. Many moons ago there was a young fellah who'd supposedly been flying his grandfathers Tiger Moth around the property for years with no licence.

As the story goes, someone told him he'd have to get a license, or end up in the poo.

Apparently he used to fly the Tiger Moth solo to an airfield not too far away to undertake proper lessons where he eventually got his licence.

I suppose this could have an element of truth to it if you lived out in the sticks, but I can't vouch for it's accuracy.

It is something I was told a long time ago at a fly-in, where as many would know, that the truth is always spoken in the clubhouse???:scratching head::yikes:
