  1. Well that was an interesting read learning what not to buy.

I think i'll stick with my 12 yr old Falcon Wagon on dedicated LPG that's got 378,000 kms on the clock .

A couple of months back it got me from Melbourne back to Sydney 868 kms on a tank full of cheap gas.

It's been totally reliable for years up until this afternoon when is started to run like a dog and the power brakes gave me a bit of a surprise.

A fractured vacuum hose will be replaced in the morning costing probably 20 bucks or so to fix the problem.

I did a new 2 pack paint job on it last year to freshen it up, and under the bonnet everything gleams like brand new.

I'm sure it will continue to give great service till this old codger pushes the daisies out of the ground. Hopefully that'll be a while yet.

  2. I had prostate problems twenty-odd years ago and luckily it hasn't played up since.

An old health professional, who lived by the adage use it or lose it, told me to "p1ss in morse code".

Just don't do three short bursts, followed by three long, then three short ones again in the dead of night, because you might find a neighbour has overheard and called for an ambulance that you didn't really need.

  3. I had brachy-seed therapy with 116 radioactive seeds implanted because my PSA was in the medium to high range, and it is now down to 0.01 over 10 yrs later.

It had the unfortunate effect of killing off one of the things we males normally enjoy in life, and the mind still makes appointments which the body can no longer keep. But i'm still here at 76 to enjoy other things in life.

All I can recommend is if you have a problem? get it fixed ASAP. The alternatives, if neglected, are not real good.

  4. Another case of a Cherokee having to land in Comanche territory, perhaps ? :scratching head:

Summary and Definition: The Comanche tribe were a formidable people located in the southern areas of the Great Plains. The Comanche tribe were renown as excellent horsemen. They fiercely fought against enemy tribes of Native Indians and resisted the white encroachment of the Great Plains. Last word possibly spelled wrong, maybe was supposed to be planes.

  5. Back in the olden days at Bankstown there would be 6 aircraft in the circuit on a weekday, weekends were busier. Is there much traffic there now? Last I saw Bankstown there were only trucks.

As part of the user lease agreement I thought they had to keep aviation as it's prime use. That 250k figure now seems about 10X what the actual traffic is

Yea right! So many clubs and organisations have all felt the pinch of privatisation one way or another here.

Don't even venture into the Clamback and Hennesy saga, who at their own expense even paid for their own hanger to be built and lost all ,or you'll likely receive a gob full from so many.

Half of it is like ghost town (just ask Dick Smith).

It's a monumental disgrace, whereby some should be hung by their nuts if letting them off lightly. including those making a quid out of the even very slow redevelopment process.

A sad state of of affairs similar to so many other airfields around Oz.

Developers and local councils have just so much to answer for.

Plain envelopes changing hands are dangerous things for others outside the developers world.

Formally so many thriving clubs, with grass now growing grass up to the windows is the norm.

I was a member of Schofields Flying Club who have since moved to the opposite side of the airfield, but the old club house is a very sad sight these days, all overgrown with grass and weeds, presumably just waiting for an appropriate offer from a developer.

Bankstown Aviation Museum is a similar story. I believe it's in the slow process of moving to Camden, but just sit's there like sad waste land.

I so wish I had a magic wand and could change it back to government owned, with someone who appreciates aviation, and not simply commerce, so aviation in the area could thrive once more.

Bankstown used to have the 2nd most most aircraft movements in the Southern Hemisphere. Just look at it now.:crying::crying::crying:

  6. Could even be like a glider I once flew many decades ago. When mother nature called and the instructor passed me a clear plastic tubed to relieve myself in, I asked where dose this go, to a holding tank or somewhere? He replied "No, all over Mrs Browns washing in Basingstoke.:whistling:

  7. M61 you are wasing yr time with turbo, I've put the fool on my ignore list! He just doesn't get it as he has no idea about commercial charter flying, a wannabe pilot!

Machtuk, for what it's worth, iv'e been a member on here for many, many years, and as such appreciate that everyone, however knowledgeable, is entitled to there own opinion. However, personal attacks on individual members are certainly not appreciated, and should in my opinion be kept to themselves. Please at least keep things friendly, regardless of how strong your individual views are. This is what we've had in the past and it would be great to keep it that way. Turbs is no fool and his views may be different to yours, but please show him a bit of respect regardless of your qualifications which not all may agree with. Thank you in anticipation.

  8. I had a friend who used to take ATC cadets for a bit of flying experience in a Provost. On one occasion he had a youngster who requested to experience flying inverted during the flight. Half way through the manoeuver the kid threw up his breakfast which then seemed to be suspended mid air. All he could think at the time, was which way do I roll out so he gets it instead of me??
