    When I was a kid, my uncle who was pretty wealthy and who owned one of the Islands in Poole Harbour, took us out on his boat and we came right alongside a couple of flying boats moored there. I was too young to know exactly what type they were, but we were allowed on board and had a look around. Sadly they were moored there temporarily before going to be scrapped. I'd guess that would have been around 1952 or 3?

    One of the members on here has a strip on his property that he refers to as Heathrow Airport. Not sure that he'd need the terminal though for when some of his mates fly in.

    So sorry that i missed it, as my partner and I were in Queenstown and nearby Arrowtown only two weeks ago. Next time, i'll pick the dates we travel.. Grrrr!

    Just arrived back from a holiday in NZ a couple of hours ago and caught up with this story. All I can say at this stage is "Well Done" and so happy that you are in a position to relate the events from your point of view, all in one piece.That's the main thing

    No apology needed mate , your aviation posts are more accurate which I enjoy. Just glad I don't have to pay for the damage to the Astor. That would knock a hole in my pension for sure.

    Tell me about it Riley. If you drive a Riley Brooklands as in your avitar, i'm envious (just a bit before my time, but only just) I once owned an Alvis TD21. Wish I owned it now, it might make my pension stretch a bit further with or without the masking tape, as would the Aston Martin DB2-4 which I sold after a week of owning it to make a mammoth 120 quid profit at the time.
