My interpretation??? um I have only just started reading the tech manual.I literally don't yet have an interpretation. Any guidance you can offer would honestly be appreciated. What I would really like to do is compare the RAAus tech manual with the proposed ELAAA tech manual. That way I can decide which way I will ultimately go.

Frank you gave my post a funny, but honestly I don't know what that last sentence means "many I speak to are amazed when updated with the current mini CASA style.." I honestly do not know what that means and I would really like to. I am not trying to be any kind of smart**** I really don't get it, "update me" and I might be "amazed" too

have I ever suggested that! I could be wrong but I don't think I have. I do not believe I have ever used the word undermined or sabotaged. Again my "me too' referred to it not being worth sticking around if this site became one sided. If I gave anything other than that impression then I AGAIN apologize. Can I draw your attention to a previous post of mine message#113 "Although I am coming from a sceptical and perhaps negative perspective I am open to any sales pitch as long as it provides accurate information about how it will operate and what the benefits would be". If I inferred that then I stand corrected BUT I meant that as I said before IF IF IF this site becomes aligned to one side then it is not worth the other side being involved. If I gave any other impression then I humbly apologize. But again I ask if can you find a quote where I have attacked a person rather than an idea. I usually take great care to avoid personal attacks. Do you really think my "me too" deserves a "F off"?.

ummm I did not make those accusations! Please provide a quote. I said "me too" as you know from the private message I sent you (maybe you have not read it yet, as you haven't responded). My "me too", was referring to IF this site only represented one side then there was little point in people who share my opinion continuing the conversation. that is all!!!!

It is hard to be positive or negative without information. I don't understand why as far as I can see the identity of the CEO is not public knowledge. If it is too early in the procedure to release this kind of information then perhaps it is too early to be posting vague posts. I understand it may be at an early stage and therefore some specifics may be unknown but surely this group has at least some aims in mind. A very basic and simple question would be, is this body intending to administer licencing and registration of higher performance RA aircraft (Tecnam, Pioneer etc). or with it be exclusively the lower performance aircraft (I fly both). This information must be known and I can see no reason for this not be made public. Is it intended that RAAus endorsements will carry across to ELAAA? Will EAAA have it's own chief instructors? I understand the idea of there being competition between the two organisations, both RAAus and ELAAA will need to compete with each other. They will both need to work hard to sell the advantages of their organisation. My support is up for grabs but it cannot be won just by bagging the organisation I have flown for the last 28 years. I want to know how you can make my flying experience better. Let the competition begin!

I first joined AUF in 1988 so I have a long history with it, it allows me to do what I want to do. In that time I have flown Thrusters, Gazelles, Tecnams and Pioneers. If a new body is to be successful it will surely need to attract the support of sports pilots. If I am considered to be a potential member of this new organization I will need to be convinced that it will be better for me and for sports aviation generally. I don't even know who I am addressing here. Who is ELAAA? The first I knew of this was a cryptic posting of a company registration certificate, no explanation (and not even posted the right way up). I gather from a couple of the comments that some people were in the know. Was post #41 the official announcement of this new venture, if so it was poorly done. Is there a web site? I do see that there is a FB page although I discovered this by accident. I understand from post #108 that the manuals have been written and approved by CASA. When do potential members get to give their input? Wasn't RAUS heavily criticised for submitting it's manuals to CASA without getting input from it's members? When do potential members get to see the manuals. Who is the CEO? Will this new body only be for rag and tube or all aircraft that I can fly under RAAUS? I want to fly fast and high AND low and slow. I am concerned that we could end up with two weak organisations instead of one strong organisation. Will this kind of split be reflected in this forum? If this forum becomes anti RAAUS and pro ELAAA then I don't see the point in me being here and I would suggest others may feel the same. Is there a projected membership cost? My negativity is more along the lines of healthy scepticism. Any new body will survive or fail on what it has to offer it's members, so far we are in the dark on that. A new body will have to ensure that it does not do those things that it criticizes RAAUS for doing. Although I am coming from a sceptical and perhaps negative perspective I am open to any sales pitch as long as it provides accurate information about how it will operate and what the benefits would be.

not sure if anyone has read the pilot comment on the youtube video but here it is : On September 18, 2016, during the Gold final start we experienced an accident involving our F1 racer, ‘Hot Stuff’ and a fellow competitor’s airplane. We were number four on the starting grid, which was the middle inside position with three aircraft on the front row, one to our right and three behind. Upon running the engine up in anticipation of the start, about 20 seconds before the green flag drop, the engine was not running well enough for flight, as you can hear from the audio, never mind racing. I made the decision to shut the engine down to signal the starters to halt the starting process. The flagman on my row put his hands in an ‘X’ over his head, as our procedures prescribe, and I opened my canopy to make it clear I was out of the race and so everyone could see me. The alternate airplane was signaled to taxi on to the runway to replace my entry. I felt confident the communications had reached the appropriate people and waited for personnel to push me off the runway. However, much to my surprise, I saw the flagman run out on to the runway waving his hands over his head as if something was wrong. The aircraft to my right started rolling and a few seconds later the number six and eight aircraft flew by me on either side. All I could do at that point was hope the number seven (center) aircraft would clear me on the centerline to my right. The impact was violent and loud. His left leading edge shaved off the top several inches from my vertical and skimmed the turtle-deck without touching until it impacted my right hand holding up the canopy, at well over sixty miles an hour. The left landing gear hit the top of the gull-wing center-section, blowing a hole in the top skin and impacted the rear face of the front spar so hard that it broke the landing gear clean off his airplane. The propeller sliced three evenly spaced gashes about mid span of my right wing, about a foot apart. The right landing gear sheared the wing off just short of the right wingtip. The impact spun me around nearly 180º, like a teacup ride at warp eight. The other aircraft came to rest several hundred feet in front of me with a folded gear, damaged wing and sheared propeller facing the other way as well. That pilot received no injuries. Three things immediately came to mind. Make yourself as small as possible to avoid further injury until things stop moving. Once the aircraft came to rest, DON’T MOVE! And since I was not on fire, wait for help to arrive. I knew my hand was busted and was not looking forward to removing my glove. But it was more important to make sure I had not been struck in the head or hurt my neck or back. After assessing my situation I realized I did not have any further injuries and proceeded to shut the switches off and assist with un-strapping myself from the wreckage. Help was there very quickly, including my flagman. Then I proceeded to ask the condition of the other pilot and how this had happened. The video should speak for itself. My next concern was to let my crew know I was OK. The one thing any spectator looks for in an accident are the correct number of flight suits walking around the wreckage after any crash, I made sure I did. Everything else can be fixed. Reno EMS quickly patched me up with a splint and had me walking back to my pit in no time. They really are good at what they do. Hot Stuff suffered severe damage. It’ll be several months before we figure out what to do with her. I’m not the slightest bit upset over the accident. I, in fact, consider myself a very lucky man. Another four feet to the left and I would have been minced meat. Literally dodging a bullet. A busted up hand is a small price to pay. I’ll take it. It’ll heal. Though it is difficult to type one-handed. I’ve said many times before and I’ll say it again, there’s risk in everything we do. But the counterpart to that is reward. I choose to cross the street because the risk of crossing the street is worth the reward of getting to the other side. Same thing with air racing, I’ll be back. Of course there’ll be a review of procedures, how to prevent something like this from happening again and a thorough investigation. I’ve used up another of my nine lives, but why would you have nine unless you plan to use them?… We live, learn and race on. Fly fast, Thom Richard

Keith, this is the kind of post that drives me mad, in Facebook parlance this would be call vaguebooking, that is a post that is vague but is suggesting something, I don't have time for that sort of bull. If you know you something that will convince me to be as unhappy and angry as you then please share it.

Totally agree with your assessment turbs. Whilst leaving the cinema I listened to the comments of other audience members and I think it is clear that us pilots probably see it through a different lens to the non pilot viewers. It is a shame the movie needed a bad guy but I suppose if it stuck exactly to the facts it would end up being an episode of Air Crash Investigation. Interestingly I saw this movie at the Sun theatre Yarraville, the owner recently did an around the world trip in a 2 seat amphibious aircraft. When I went into the cinema this guy was just packing up after giving a lecture to a school group about his trip. He show us a picture of him landing on the Hudson River in his amphibious aircraft. I would have prefered skipping the movie and having a chat to this guy! No Cookies | Herald Sun But back to Sully. These quotes are from an interesting critique of the movie: In fact, in his memoir, Sullenberger reflects that he was “buoyed by the fact that investigators determined that Jeff and I made appropriate choices at every step”. When he and Skiles were invited to the cockpit voice recorder playback, Sullenberger notes the investigators were eager for the opportunity to hear the pilots’ thoughts. As he describes, the playback happened four months after the flight in a room with six people. Yet in Sully the playback occurs days after the flight before a packed kangaroo court. The exhausted pilots are hounded by ankle-biting bureaucrats, and presented with incriminating simulations that show test pilots easily making runway landings. Ultimately, the investigators are embarrassed into decency. Sullenberger achieves victory by demanding – essentially from the dock – that the simulations include the time needed for adequate situational assessment. In reality, investigators first asked simulator pilots to attempt airport landings immediately after engine loss to establish the bounds of practicality. Notably, even with the benefit of perfect hindsight, barely half of these optimal test runs made it back. And then the investigators – not Sullenberger – asked a pilot to wait 35 seconds before attempting an airport return. That flight didn’t make it. Consequently, the NTSB was unequivocal in its declaration that the Hudson was the right call. Anyway, I enjoyed it!

I can see that for the builder/pilot there is a huge motivation to get the build right. I do have some concerns though. A CFI that I did a lot of flying with was killed in a 19 reg plane whilst conducting BFR for a pilot in the pilots plane. The cause was mechanical and led to urgent inspections of other aircraft.

Not meant to be a competition, just interested in unusual aircraft some of my aviation friends have flown or flown in. Couldn't agree more, during every single flight, at some point I think to myself, this is ****** awesome and I can't believe that I am able to do this. At some point though I will let flying go and that is just a reality but I will still enjoy reminiscing about the relatively small number of aircraft I have piloted and the interesting aircraft I have been a passenger in. My own list is relatively short compared to some but lots of great memories. I have really enjoyed reading these lists, did have to look up some aircraft though. Unfortunately the only picture I have of my first solo is a blurry picture of me standing in front of the aircraft, these days I video absolutely every part of every flight. I sometimes imagine myself in an old folks home, watching my videos and saying to the staff "I used to fly a plane you know"
