  1. It seems to me that "Txtspeak" is becoming less common, most likely due to predictive text. I don't have any problem with "Txtspeak" as long as it is an abbreviation that the intended reader will understand. There is nothing really new here, consider the English used in the past in telexes and telegrams or even in aviation, it all comes down to using a language that is common in the area you are dealing in whether it be aviation, medicine or within youth culture.
  2. feel free to correct me, also if you have any useful dietary advice I would be most interested
  3. I will refrain from pointing out your spelling error. So, if it is only ignorance or not caring, I am wondering which category my 86 year old father would fall into. He left school during the war and so did not have the benefit of the education most of us have today. Although his grammar and spelling are less than perfect, this does not mean that he has nothing interesting to say. Similarly, I do some contract work for woman whose emails and texts are less than perfect; ignorant or lazy? No, in fact she is extremely intelligent and hard working, but educated in Russia, English being her second language. Also, I don't understand why the Grammar Nazis are so keen to point out people's spelling or grammar transgressions publicly rather than privately. Could it be that not only do they want to correct people, but they want to be seen to correct people? If I read a post on this forum that has less than perfect spelling or grammar I can usually understand what the writer means. If not I could ask for clarification, but if I did feel the need to correct someone I would do it privately. Firstly because it is just good manners, but secondly because I am not particularly impressed by people who are more interested in form than content.
  4. When taking off from 05 at Moruya with Graham he once said to me "can we turn crosswind before we get to New Zealand?" Graham once asked me if I could ferry the Gazelle to Merimbula for maintenance, when I asked what the maintenance was for he said "it has wing rot and no one else wants to fly it" for about 2 seconds I believed him On one occasion I arrived at Moruya airport to find there were several fire trucks on the field, when I asked him why they were there he told me that he had informed them that I would be flying and they were just taking precautions, it was of course an exercise. I really enjoyed his dry sense of humor. and this from my wife who spent plenty of time hanging round Moruya whilst I was having lessons and later my regular passenger - What sticks in my mind is that he always assumed I might be interested in the details of what you were doing/learning, despite my being a non-pilot. He included me in the conversation - when it's often easy to become 'invisible' if you aren't seen as part of the secret society. It probably spoke of his many many years of experience teaching people of all kinds to fly. I feel so lucky to have been trained by him and he will be missed by so many.
  5. Terrible news. Graham White has had a huge influence on me from that first TIF through to my certificate and endorsements as well as BFRs, a pilot and instructor of great skill with a wonderful dry sense on humor. He will be sadly missed
  6. bexrbetter, firstly can I ask the source of the graph you posted and also do you contend that NASA's graph is incorrect and if so what would be the explanation for that, are they deliberately misleading us or are they shoddy scientists? (as must be nearly all of the worlds scientific organisations) http://climate.nasa.gov/evidence
  7. 600 years ago 98% of experts did not believe the earth was flat - search for flat earth myth. Scholars and scientists have known of the spherical earth since the 14th century.
  8. I had a close encounter with a pair of Eagles today
  9. I am watching a press conference with Angus Houston on ABC24, the whole press conference is being shown unlike on the commercial channels which like to just show short grabs. The level of detail even extended to him explaining the difference between indicated airspeed and true airspeed, whatever you think of the ABC you just don't get this level of detail on the commercials.
  10. Medical expenses? working poor etc? I am open minded on this subject but perhaps you could provide some facts and figures. my understanding is the the US economy has been struggling over the last few years. I have never been a member of a union and I have been self employed for the last 24 years, I don't begrudge workers receiving good wages because these workers are also my customers, cut wages cut my customers.
  11. ah I see, if we cut our wages to US standards then we could have a similar unemployment rate and per head debt as the US ...... great ..... oh wait
  12. This is how I like to steer with the rudder whilst landing, also I find landing on the nose wheel saves wear and tear on the main wheels
  13. I certainly had do demonstrate side slips during my test and also during my BFRs apart from being a very useful technique (especially in a forced landing) it is also fun. I was hoping someone (with more credentials than me) would make this point.

  15. My last flight was along the Great Ocean Road. Unfortunately a week later I found myself in hospital with a serious cardiac problem, so I am desperately hoping that this was not truly my "last flight" http://grahamlambflying.weebly.com/great-ocean-road-flight.html

  18. I understand that Andy, but I do feel better (logical or not) having a document with my name on it confirming the coverage. I am personally not bothered by receiving this, it doesn't strike me as being a different way of doing business than any of my other insurance companies, but again that is just my feeling. cheers
  19. personally I am glad to actually have received the attached Certificate of Currency for the liability insurance with my name on it, I have always considered it odd that for any other insurance I have (car house etc) I have documents detailing the coverage.

  21. Turbo You say that "the members should find out for themselves" OK, then I guess I have to ask someone who knows whatever it is we are supposed to "find out about". So I presume you have this information, so I am asking you to tell me what it is that the "members should know" if you don't wish to say publicly then message me. So do you have information or not?
  22. Turbo I am so sick of the "I know something" and we kids are supposed to "do our homework" thing. You say ask someone who is not a board member, well you are not a board member so do tell, you can always message privately.
  23. Reminds me of this advert
  24. This doesn't seem to have had much exposure in the media http://www.teenworldflight.com
  25. Good to have an Aviation Minister who is also a private pilot, he arrived at Lethbridge in his Bonanza
