  1. On the days where I've flown in strong winds, I've had to 'drive it in' with plenty of throttle - sometimes even up to 2200 RPM on the worst days! I've not so far experienced what you've described, however some days when there is strong thermals on mid/late finals I have had to really work to get the plane to sink.
  2. Check out this video Owi, produced by AOPA. It's one of the best I've seen so far discussing both approaches to crosswind landing techniques. Good luck with the rest of your training!
  3. +1 for Point Cook! There is also an Aviation Museum in Ballarat.
  4. There has just been a new gliding club started in Ballarat. They might be keen to have new people! http://www.thecourier.com.au/news/local/sport/general/ballarat-gliding-club-gets-off-the-ground/2030073.aspx
  5. I was there too! Bought Gold Passes for my Dad's 60th birthday and the weather was really bad. We were wet to the core! Not as bad as Sun 'n Fun (err... Wind 'n Rain) though.
  6. Hey Black Rod. I must admit, it's not the slickest mag in the bunch! Thanks Jimmy! Glad to hear that it's getting read by at least some people!!!
  7. Thanks Black Rod! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Yeah, I noticed that too. I actually originally wrote it for RAA, but only sent it into PF because people were telling me that you can win a free year's subscription. Alas, it was not me this time...
  8. Thanks again all! I took the magazine to work and showed it to a fellow student pilot, but everyone around was curious so one by one they borrowed the mag and read the article! A lot of them didn't have a concept of how far I had actually come, even though I've been telling anyone who asks! "Wow, I didn't know you were up to flying it by yourself!" they'd say. "Yep, and now I'm close to having a pilot certificate!" "Wow......Can I come flying with you?" "Some day soon!" is how most conversations go now... Oh, sorry about the spelling in the thread title... I was a little tired when I wrote it. Please mentally include an 'e' after the 'm'. Silly brain! Does anyone know if there is there any way to amend a thread title?
  9. Thanks all! Glad to hear someone has read it!
  10. Thanks all! Thanks burbles... I never thought of it that way! Cool.
  11. A quick one... I wrote a little article about my flying experiences up until first solo and it was accepted and printed in the April edition of Pacific Flyer magazine... Out today!!! Ok, I'm excited because it's the first time I've ever been published... In anything! Just needed to share!
  12. Congratulations! Awesome stuff!!!
  13. Thanks eightyknots! Yeah I saw those tracks! I have a feeling it was from the gliding club support vehicle that was buzzing around that afternoon. This is a camera similar to the one I use (it's the HD update of mine): http://cgi.ebay.com.au/HD-DV-Car-Key-Camera-Video-Cam-DVR-Driving-Recorder-8GB-/150561741068?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item230e2dd90c
  14. Hey David, I am trying to convince work to pay for my lessons. Unfortunately they're not having a bar of it... Mostly because we're a band. Not much need for a two seater recreational pilot when we're a 23 piece ensemble!
  15. Thanks Matt! Wow, that's a lot of information!!! Might have to it up!
  16. Thanks Gnarly! At work, we're in the process of having our studio space renovated - finally a place with a professional acoustic design! I very much appreciate what you guys do!
  17. Thanks Tomo. Wow, that's quite a combination of instruments there! I wish I had more time to practice the other instruments, but as they're just for fun I'd better concentrate on the main one - oh, and reading my flying books!
  18. Thanks Dazza!
  19. Thanks Matt. The above was recorded over a few weeks with different flights. I only have two little cameras: One compact camera that goes inside the cockpit, and a small micro video camera attached to various places on the outside of the plane. I just wish I could turn off the stoopid clock in the corner! Thanks also Winsor!
  20. This is what I've been up to so far in this aviation adventure: Thought I'd share... Hope you like it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZHCV5BLpks
  21. Thanks Doug, Wow! Raffles Hotel in Singapore would have been a big gig! I'm sure it was well received by the punters? Thanks for the welcome. I hope I'll have adventures to share in the coming weeks and months! This is what I've been up to so far: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZHCV5BLpks
  22. My Dad is currently in the process of resurrecting his GA licence out of West Sale. If you see a Cessna 210, give him a wave! I look forward to meeting him in Tooradin for the 'hundred dollar hamburger'!
  23. Hi Frank, thanks for the welcome! I play bass trombone in my job, but I play a little bit of bass guitar and guitar for fun when no one is looking! Guitar is great fun! What styles do you play? You have your own strip? That would be awesome!
