  6. Hey David, my brolga did it and now my new bolly. My bolly has faded and has whitish streaks running down it . Not sure why either but done 100 + hrs like that . If I polish it , it's nice and new again for a while then same thing!

  8. T thread " the diary of jack flyer" ( it's getting very close folks)
  9. Keep us posted on your flight test...... Open cockpit - cool. I Love my hair flowing in the wind.. And by hair I mean as in 1 strand- that's all that's left. Good luck:helmet:
  10. Hello, yes correct I had the supercat( strutt braced) I had 447 rotax in it and build was from original plans. The original design is vey short coupled with small tail plane and makes for some exciting flying....meaning it is very pitch sensitive and at times unstable with tendency to oscillate on final and as slippery as an eel. The later built versions (by new plans owner -3rd designer) has longer fuselarge tail section and bigger tail plane giving a stable flight. 2nd designer was unfortunatly killed in his modified bobcat. The new plans owner is very helpful and can be found on YAHOO GROUPS " supercat owners" With mine it 3 point landing only- watch the torque roll on take off can bite Note -calm no wind.
  11. I have ran many different 2 strokes, my fav was the robin 40 hp. I bought my light wing with rotax 582 on 371 hrs , never skipped a beat ( after filter design change)and ran it untill 520 hrs. Just replaced with brand spanker , 19 hrs so far The only thing I would stress is please don't use z14 fuel filters ( or any paper filters) Use a 2 stroke designed filter. As with paper filters they clog quickly with oil making a lean mixture and starving engine. I see it time and time again. Happened when I bought my supercat and was transporting home( engine stopped) and found clogged paper filter . Also first time we ran lightwing on ground lost fuel pressure. Found yet again paper filter clogged( log book showed new filter only 3 hrs flying time before but sat for several weeks un started. 2 st filters are $3 from your local bike shop!
  12. I just did it ( passed) only took 52 mins of my time ! I found it fun! That's just my own opinion . Happy days
  13. Enjoyed it. Great vid and love the radio threw the vid..
  14. It's home... New owner Dwayn arrived back today . Tiger looks nice except forthe completely broken off tail assembly ( wooden spring hanger).
  15. I've put on weight since 2005, I now way a whopping 70 kgs . . Now back to topic:coffee:
  16. n 2005 here in Sherlock we had a 120 kmh squall, I had my single seat bunyip anchored outside. The wind hit it head on and my wife and I went out ( during squall) it was lifted completely off the ground , lucky the fence stakes held tight in the lime stone and the fencing wire( all I had at the time but worked well) held out, that and hanging my heavy 65 kg body off the 447 helped I like to think. We often talk about it and yes how bloody stupid I was in the squall hanging off the plane that could have taken me with it. And these days in 2014 in 140kmh squall, I defiantly wasn't hanging off the prop. I was actually hanging off a truck strap attached to my car and the un finished hangar .
  17. Have you checked it out Pete? I did whilst up there, nice, and Kevin says it's pretty sweet? Dwayn ( new owner) should be there fri - sat. Have her home by Monday. PS. yes yes and big yes ,I GET TO FLY THE BEAST:plane:
  18. Lol nah , I only have the replica .303 Lewis mounted and the tiger is gun less ( for now) We plan on mounting paint ball guns and shooting each other !( just kidding ) Now you say the war is over? Geez reading some recent threads sounds like the wars just starting:oops:
  19. Unbelievable, what Are the chances? So here I am flying lone dawn patrols in my nieuport, meanwhile an old aviation Pal ( whome was between planes) whom I have not spoken nor seen in 12 months rings up out of the blue! However last week I flew over his strip(8 nm away) in the war plane , gave him a wing waggle as I passed over. S o anyway he asks how I've been and then mentions if I saw the old war fighter fly over last week? I say" did it give you a wing waggle? Surprised he say " yes did it wave to you?lol. I filled him in on my new beast ect , then he gies on to say he was calling for some advice. He has found his dream plane a tiger moth replica, and was just after general info. But here's the thing! The tiger moth was parked next to my nieuport in qld , turns out the seller of my nieuport is the seller of the tiger( which I have inspected and sat in when up there) So the tiger will soon be reunited with the nieuport for dawn patrols... What are the chances that some one just up the road , whom had no idea about my nieuport would not only also by a war bird, but from same seller and then ring me?amazing destiny I say ....

Lol , need to wait for calm afternoon. The missus doesn't get up early enough for morning filming !
  21. Been a couple years and couple hundred more flying hours plus 2 new aircraft, So I thought I'd update this particular thread. So the fog over still occurs here. Conditions for it to occur are cold morning ( when breathing produces a mist, NO visible fog)with sun out , at around 50-100 ft agl the outside air temp is considerably warmer than the ground layer under 50-100 ft agl, So when the cold windscreen hits the considerably warmer air it fogs over(on the outside) It only ever lasts 1-2 minutes. Generally during early winter and early spring. In the lightwing only the front wind screen fogs over leaving the side windows clear. I have a pre flight PAX brief I added to make my PAX aware of this. I discovered in the nieuport my goggles do it ( quick wipe with my gloves did the trick ). I am yet to find any notes in any aviation info on this particular occurrence . Would be very interested to know if it happens elsewhere?,as I'm yet to have it happen any where else but here and pa's ( 7 nm est of me but situated same distant at bottom of Marmon range(600 ft agl we at bottom) Not sure if I posted what I found in regards to combating the occurrence? So I'll update anyway. After much experimenting in the bathroom with hot shower and fogged mirror using every thing ( rainx , vinegar, mirror anti-fog, bees wax, dish washing solution to name a few) I found a winner! Dish washing solution hands down was most affective. Simply apply to clean dry cloth and smear a film - note- just a light film! I once went overboard and found I had a cabury's aero bar ( soap bubbles) for a windscreen . Stay safe and NEVER stop learning aviators, although the " never stop learning" is a given in aviation.
