  1. Yep me! But still happy I did the training. It opened my eyes very wide to the HIDDEN dangers. I have posted about this before , my old cfi had a strong belief that all students should do LL training as too open them up to these hidden dangers( number 1 being - never with a pax 2. the single phase rural wire- which I have in my paddock). Taught me pretty quickly it is safer to stick to 500 agl if I want to fly low and even then you want to be well aware of your surroundings including the air your flying in! Stay safe guys
  2. Hey guys , can any one with legal knowledge work this out? First my MTOW was reduced to 400 kgs( from the 480 kgs I bought and registed it at ) and was told I need an ENGINEERING ORDER for the fitment of a 582. I was able to get a provisional reg with E/O PENDING. Then last week I find this on the RAA WEB SITE,!! So question- do I still need an e/O if my MTOW is 400( with the 582) ?
  3. And I must say , it would be AWESOME having another rep so close.. Can't wait:helmet:
  4. Sounds like a plan , even though I stand no chance!lol
  5. Good job, and good choice ! I should like to build the eindeckrr - so I can have some one fly it whilst I shoot them down in my nieuport! Lol
  6. Without buddy box ,I take off and trim the plane and once at hight and lvl I hand the controller to the student ,I can then voice directions and if needed ie they loose control I can take the controller back and recover. I have never lost one doing it this way..

  8. Note- tailem bend topics( tailem bend s.a news letter) this month has an ad for a missing drone! It's a huge 2 meter wing span motor glider flown via them camera goggles system ( camera fitted in plane pilot where's monitor goggles) went missing near tailem bend area.. Hmm right near Brooklands air park and tailembend VOR .. It's also posted on the wall at tailem bend food land. ( missing. Rc plane)
  9. Job done , , logged egt, cht, and water temp threw out each rpm All perfect., then later on a short test flight. Omg!.,super smooth and much quieter . Another short flight and head re torque and done! This arvo hopefully
  10. I will plug in the carb balancer for pneumatic balancing AFTER run in . The mechanical balance is done . I'm hoping 1 carbie in the old eng was just set wrong .
  11. Th Thanks Jason , the prop I have pitched right. Ie. 6300 rpm static on old eng. The needles are set on the third as per specs on new carbs, so I'll go with that and see ?( not sure why 1 carb on old eng different?) I would rather do an un interrupted break in but if she needs tweaking , she needs tweaking! Keep you informed
  12. Will confirm with wal at bert flood tomorrow before break- in takes place. My problem is not the jets! There fine and match my old 582 . Problem is for my light wing I would like to have the idle mixture set the same as it was as the old eng ran 517 hr no probs. but as mentioned they are set different on old carbies ? It would be nice to have it set up the same as I know egt temps were good.
  13. Hey guys , I have installed the new 582 but was unable to fit the oil injection! So I have removed pump , replaced with the plug plate from my old engine, looped the oil feed intakes to each other and now ready to set carbie needle as was told the carbie are set different for oil injection? Anyway I thought I'd be clever and just check the old carbies! No good as 1 carbie set at 3rd slot closest to clip and other carbie set at slot 2 ? Any one know the correct slot? (Slot 1 being needle point end)for PRE MIX. Thanks guys
  14. Ok I probably should defend myself here! Although it's nice of you guys to discuss my grammer ... I am neither ignorant nor lazy. I use a spell checker !,but it does not help my punctuation etc..I was not pushed to do school work and with ADHD I was unable to concentrate at school. I left when I was 14 to undergo an apprenticeship as a jockey ,later at age 18 I went on to complete another apprenticeship in automotive mechanical engineering.I then went on to run my own business, mechanical , then bobcat and tipper service, ending up working for power networks Australia.in all that time it was never pointed out to me nor did I have any real need to better my spelling. Then as the times changed I started writing books and found quickly my lack of spelling and punctuation . I started with a spell checker that simply highlighted a mistake so I would google the correct spelling ( I still do sometimes) and still miss a lot ,but I'm learning. So feel free to judge us " lazy ignorant " spellers with bad grammer (note: grammer comes up highlighted spelt wrong- google search proves otherwise ?) but were - I mean we're trying .
  15. Spoke with howie today he said 500 mtrs for safe training no % extra Also stated I should never change the wings , cowl or turtle deck as most / if not all are changed! Only note is my UGLY Radiator lol. So hunting up a gr912 radiator ( as howie says for the 582 e/o requires as per car 35 proper radiator fitted, ) Not sure why they fitted the current radiator. Looks like it's from v8 lol
  16. I hear ya but unfortunately/apparently the nieuport would require significant modifications to accommodate the extra ponies up front? I too have had this same concern and have spent 2 months in finding an alternative but there's just nothing that will go in there without modifification, after much much debate about low hr s/h or rebuild I decided to have my engine ( 414 hrs) overhauled , having a very clear history of the plane and engine I believe this to be the right decision ? Wal @ bert floods assures me it will be "as good as new" ....? Note modification refers to firewall forward.and/or wing lengthen.
  17. C Crappy wooden prop? Bolly certifies there props for lightwings 582,but costs some $$$$cost me $1670 for a certified 68 " ground adjustable 2 blade- I had the option of the 3 blade but could not afford it .however I rather the extra slight vibration( compared to the 3 blade brolga) as the 2blade performs amazingly- solo ,full tank(53ltr) @5200 rpm gets me 70 kts. Cruise. Take off full rpm= 6300rpm prop pitched at 12 deg. I'm more concerned about the weight being reduced on my rego from 480kgs to 400. I weigh a woping 68 kgs-so I'm on a diet so I can still take a pax! .. Lol
  18. You got a spare couple grand to throw in for me?
  19. N I have a active 400 mtr dirt strip! And almost completed 520 mtr, the question remains! whats the minimum rwy length for a LW-1? Mark at ALW believes it to be 350 mtrs + ?% .... Waiting to here back from mark after he confirms with howie as I disagree. Was told by RAA to find out minimum from manufacturer. It's not a critical question but would end a debate I'm having.in re guards to a gr 582, And a ORIGINAL LW-1! ( original lw1 is box shape, has no wing tanks Or provision for them, and has pointy nose,- un-modified frame)the debate is not what you can get her down in ! I get mine down happily at pa 's in 200 mtr one way in/out I want to know what the manufacture states? Thanks guys
  20. Lucky buggers!

  22. I wish ! 582 with air filters from bert flood is $6650 including gst( $6820 delivered) Trust me my new lightwing 582 should arrive here tomorrow If I could afford an extra $2500 I would go that way as the 582 with radiator and coolant weighs .4 of a kilo less .how ever the 15 extra hp would require firewall mods on my nieuport - apparently?
  23. I'm sending my 503 to bert flood for complete overhaul! New crank etc.. About $4000 Seeking genuine parts especially on ebay has become near impossible!! Every thing from china now in made from paper mashae and held together with bits of spaghetti ( they call them bolts)!
  24. Note new pre flight- add :scarf secured/ tied and pined? Check
  25. Last Saturdays flight ( cut and paste from my FB status to share with you guys n gals) woke up full of excitement!!! it was the crack of dawn and the air was still, the ground was laiden with ice from the frosty -3 degree morning, and all the cars resembled igloo's frozen in the pack ice....the hangar doors were flung open revealling all that is the glory of my war horse(nieuport 11 c.1. )I tempted her out and began to swing her prop! hmm might be a tad cold? I start to swing harder and more furiosly, then like a crack of a whip she let out a roar and sat there pacing on the spot ready for action,I gave her one last look over then I mounted my trusty steed..We now molded into one following each others every move,I danced on the the rudder bar as she wiggled in an anticipation,we lined up ,opened up and with a buck she was in the air,the ice filled air burning my face and freezing the grin to a permanant fixture upon my face...I yanked her around and we headed across the western front dodging flak and scanning like a carnival clown for the infermous Fokker tripe... we were just about to cross the trenches(Peake oval) when I caught view of a flash followed by a strangling feeling? I griped the joystick between my legs and began a stuggle with the serpent upon its prey,(My scarf had unravelled and dangled 7 foot behind me in the wind strandlling me!)lol after a brief struggle I regained the upper hand and continued my mission,as predicted Pa was out of the trenches leading the front line in a galliant effort to combat the ice cold morning whilst giving me a huge wave,Although from my vantage point I saw him give me the wave of incoming fokkers .Im certain I seen him reference at least 6 and as I was on a lone dawn patrol I turned my trusty steed 180 , gave Pa a wing waggle and high tailed it back to the safety of french frontline aerodrome.. During the sramble home I encounted a fokker but managed to out run him plus the ground artillary forced him to retreat..I lined up the open field and pulled on the reins,She bucked and kicked but I kept her in line all the way to my most gentle 3 POINT EVER,,,WHAT!!!!!!!! Know one there to see that landing!!!!!! dang. well I de-saddled and brushed her down and was mighty chuffed at surviving another dawn patrol.....yep Im living the dream.
