  1. Welcome Tim , great name by the way!
  2. Yeh seen that and no other reference Waiting on email from alw on the minimum landing distance for a LW-1 keep ya posted
  3. Found the requirements but still need manufacturers minimum landing distance? It's plus 30 %. Ra-a ops 2.15-4 aerodromes It is RECOMENDED that the aerodrome comply with CASA cap 92.1
  4. I Should have wrote any LW-1 owners out there with a aircraft manual? As it states the min landing distance I have the manual for the diff model gr 582. Which states min as. Being 500 meters then for instructing I think you then require an extra 20 % ? But as mine is an original LW-1. Apparently I can not use theses figures? Not asking about runway surface of obstacles ect just want to know the min landing length for a LW-1 ? It won't be any more than 700ft below 300 ft Amsl as that's the certified length of the rag n tube training field I trained at. To be technical. 60 ft Amsl grass/ dirt no obstacles endless open paddocks... It's not real easy to get info from howie? 800 ft looks short lol. Not from anyone of my cockpits ! I even thought my bigger 350mtr strip looked ok coming down 2 up in the 6 cyl fuel injected jabi! Not to mention my 240 mtr strip... Haha you boys and ya fancy long luxury strips... I don't know? . The lightwing from round out to stop uses on average 150 mtrs using brakes. No brakes add 50
  5. Can any one tell me the rwy length required for instructing in a 2 st 582 lightwing LW-1 ? Minimum length ? + how many %. Extra? = ? Thanks
  6. NOTE- Sherlock Ala is under construction!!! Main 350mtr 08/26 strip is in fine serviceable condition and open However a new rwy of 600 mtrs has been marked and from the air looks inviting! It has a visible white cross of NON-SERVICIBILITY as the nth end has SINGLE PHASE POWERLINE RUNNING OVER IT IN LINE WITH HOUSE I am currently contructing(attempting to contruct) a 500 mtr rwy for the faster boys/gals( without obstruction) but could take some time. So visiting pilots use the clear visible dirt rwy 08/26. 350 mtrs- it's clear of obstruction and good to go - stick to centre as runoff on edges may be softer. Thanks look forward to seeing you drop in-- ahh. Ease her in... Any questions or for more info pm me
  7. Been speaking with both wal and Gary at bert flood A 582 weighs only . 4 of a kg less including radiator and fluid! I have enough room under cowl to fit 9 cyl rotary so the 582 and radiator ect fits and weighs less HOWEVER.. They say you can't prop start a 582. And would be concerned in the bump up of 15 extra ponies! Wal's advice is to send him the 503 for complete overhaul .
  8. still looking,
  9. yep as long as im flying in some way im fine?lol
  10. yep strange that! i was never afraid of hights as a child but now!!!! and yet totally fine in a SMALL plane(never been in anything bigger than a cessna 182 and dont plan too!) yet go up the escalator at adelaide royal hospital and im sweaty and shakey? go figure?
  11. to hell with telling you,see it for yourself!!! my last flight
  12. added a thin cusion between leather slip and plastic seat, unfortunately you cant add much because of stick postion, bit of cusion better than none! says my but...
  13. The swing was there, just not as bad! (As xwind pushing from left-sth on take off and pointed plane from right side to the left end- she curved around rather than swung)As the tail lifts you can note the r/h side of runway get closer then I lift off and cross the right edge.... Goggles crap! ( home made - safety goggles with sunglasses fit snug inside-- kept fogging up). Ordered some real ones .... Still a couple other niggles iron out!
  14. Short but sweet Enjoy
  15. woot woot.....she's home !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! after a thourough pre flight, i set out for some circuts in aim of sorting out the take off loop and getting my short field landing spot on and also decided use the slight x-wind ruway(no time like the present to see how she really handles ) ...so as mentioned i attempted to hold the tail down, biuld up to almost stall speed and raise the tail... NOPE!!!!!! no diff...- tail up and bam spin around to right??????????? however i noted the stick position again with left stick required for level flight? hmmmm this got me thinking so the next circut i desided to scrap everything ive told and try my own thing! so next attempt i held tail down but as i raised the tail i .........wait for it..............wait for it.. .just held left stick to the left!!! and bobs your uncle !!! perfectly strieght. so anther take off with same technique and even better...so its all trimming...that i can sort out......anyway so with the weather providing a opertunity i departed Aldinga for 64nm trk est. after take off i climbed to 2500 and crossed mt compass which turned out to span near 10 nm...was rough all the way but the nieuport is a real joy to fly and was lovin it... @5850 rpm i cruised at 50-55ktns with ground speed of = ..how ever as murphy would have it,,my predicted est ground winds on my 08rwy had turned dew sth at 2kt gusting 4.3. so i decided on having a feel with a low power on approach slight crab but once over the fence in ground effect with some wiggling and peddaling, she came down greased....and a yahoo may have been screamed?.. i am sooooooooooooooooooooo happy to have her home, and pleased with her perfgormace.. thanks againPat for all your help and support...

  20. did i mention my last take off was behind a tiger moth!! truely awesome
  21. and i have seen this in the nieuport however as i have performed this kind of take off (in supercat) I agree with fact it takes off nose high just above stall and is arkward in roll.. talking with owner he agrees on building a bit more speedtail down then raise tail and should be be fine? thanks again Pete:cheers:
