Pretty sure it needs the cell coverage only to report the location details but GPS fixes will be stored then reported when cell coverage is resumed. I work in locations where I don't always have cell coverage but the locations do come up on the followme map when I check later. You will get much better cell coverage with some elevation so most of the populated landscape is covered. It's not a replacement for a beacon but it is another reasonable method of keeping track of your flight. If something goes wrong......this app may help SAR find you much faster by narrowing the search area......especially if your beacon was not activated. See: www.followmee.com -

I have to agree with Andy about the smart phone app called Followmee. It is available for android and apple products and for less than 6 bucks you get the ability to record the tracking history. Anyone with the log on details can call up the details on the Followme web site. Most people have one of these phones so why not use it. It does not need to be activated by anyone onboard in the case of an emergency but will give a track and location current to within the last 10 min. Wayne -

Arrived at the field around 9:30am on a calm and clear morning, the club meeting was scheduled for 10:30am after morning tea. We were expecting a flight of Tiger Moths to arrive before midday and as it was mentioned in the local paper, people started arriving to see them. ANZAC day is a busy day for flypasts and on my way out the the airfield I saw a formation of aircraft heading south towards Warwick, looked like some T-28's plus other types. Later we had a formation of 3 Tiger helo's along with 3 NRH-90 heli's fly over, heading across to Clifton. Trevor had us all looking in the direction of Allora at 10:30am.......nothing came our way ,a F-18 was planned to flyover but we never saw it! After a quick meeting I managed to squeeze in 40 minutes in the club Drifter before the BBQ lunch and while the tiger's were arriving in the circuit. I had plenty of judges for my landing, I was happy it was a "greaser"! A number of the visitors had trained on Tiger's and came out to rekindle the memories. Here are some photos, quality of workmanship on these aircraft is outstanding.

Thanks Asmol, Sara said it was the most aircraft they have had on the ground, I went to the 2 open days and the last one had some large ones but not as many. Hey Mat! You caught me (2nd from right) & Ben (far left) heading over to Drifter 460 after Trevor's flight briefing! FT, I sort of get the impression that they are happy to foster any good publicity at the moment to spread the word about the airport. Wayne

A opportunity to flyin into Wellcamp airport near Toowoomba became a reality this morning after Trevor Bange organized permission to allow Darling Downs Sport Aircraft Assn. members and Darling Downs Aero Club members to visit Wellcamp without the need to hold an ASIC's card. It turned out to be a near perfect day once the the patchy early fog lifted. A club meeting was to happen at 8am followed by a briefing on flying into and out of Wellcamp. Departure from Clifton was from 9am with arrivals at Wellcamp from 9:30am. Low performance aircraft were to leave first cruising not above 2500ft, medium performance at 3000ft and high performance at 3500ft. It didn't quite happen that way due to the lifting fog/cloud base only managing to get to around 3000ft at the time of departure. We were asked to fly via Wyreema and give an inbound call (8nm) and do a slight left hand turn to join a long downwind for runway 12 right base. As taxiway Kilo & Lima were the only operational taxiways we all landed long to minimize time on the very big runway! Someone counted 34 aircraft on the apron, all arrived in the space of half an hour with no issues. I was to share a club Drifter with Ben, he took the front seat going into Wellcamp and I flew it back to Clifton. Turned out that we were both looking forward to a back seat ride as both of us had never been in the rear seat before! On short final to the wide Wellcamp runway I was prompting Ben to continue the descent and not flare to high due the the optical illusion. His landing was smooth but he had to do a bit of dancing on the pedals to keep her straight during a fast taxi to taxiway Kilo. All pilots and passengers were then escorted inside the terminal where we enjoyed a some drinks and snacks from the coffee shop! I am sure they would love to have us flyin everyday. Sara, from Wellcamp airport pubic relations gave us a tour and John Wagner was there to greet us and answer any questions. He made it quite clear that we could fly into Wellcamp at anytime as it is a public airport. The only catches are, it will cost you and you will need an ASIC card! Around 11am we all headed back to our aircraft and most of us returned to Clifton for the lunch time BBQ. We were greeted with a light breeze on return to the Clifton circuit. A great day was had by all. I only needed to drive back home to Oakey which is an hour's drive from Clifton........and 12 minutes drive PAST Wellcamp airport! Cheers, Wayne. Here are some photos.

G'Day Keith, My Kestrel tailplane will pivot up but only about 60 degrees, still enough to put in a trailer but I like what I saw on Howards plane better. I'm guessing yours is the same design too. The photos show the difference. Are you putting the Kestrel and Trailer on Ebay or just the trailer? You will have to pm me a list of spares. Wayne

Hi FL, No it's not flying yet, have been busy building a new kitchen for the misses (money saved is for my flying:oh yeah:). have been doing some research and planning. I have collected items that I need or want to go into the Kestrel. I am about to start work on it soon. A new instrument panel will be going in, better gauges and the panel set higher in pod for better knee room. That will come with a complete rewire. I will be redoing the the elevator control cable setup slightly, changing the tailplane mounting and bracing to be more in line with the other Kestrels I have seen. My tailplane does not foldup as far as the other Kestrels. It's amazing how many differences there are between the Kestrels. My rego requirements are now more sensible after Trevor Bange (RAA S.E Qld rep) from Clifton had a chat to the tech manager about the previously stated requirements being 'hogwash'! See post a few above. Been getting back in form flying Drifters at Clifton so I am ready to flying the Kestrel when I get it going. Below is a list of my new requirements to get it registered again. · Statutory Declaration stating when and from who you purchased the aircraft from and verifying that the aircraft is 10-1213 · Change of Ownership form with $65 payment · Aircraft Data Sheet form · Images of Registration markings on both sides of fuselage · Image of Warning Placard · Image of compliance plate (with serial no. & registration No.) The serial number for 10-1213 is recorded as 006 · Payment for 12 months registration of $65 (can be added to change of ownership form amount) · Weight and Balance And a Aircraft Condition Report (ACR) for 95.10

Yes Mark, I did get some video of the Highlander. I will see what I can do to put it online and add a link to it. Stay tuned. Was a great Saturday evening as wind died off and BBQ with 90 people was great. Sunday morning started out calm, Great day all round. Here are some more photos. Our CEO Micheal Linke is in the rear seat of the Drifter having his first Drifter ride. Hope the Hunter Valley guys got home OK....around those storms in that region today. Wayne.

Hi abzkam, Do some of your own research to determine what type of aircraft would suit you, away from this forum and on it and when you have questions about potential aircraft types you are interested in ask forum members using the appropriate forum topic. Do a search first so see if that question has been posted before, you can always add to that forum thread if you have additional questions or comments. Welcome all. Wayne

Good on you Ben, the Citabria..Airbatic backwards, is a very nice handling tail dragger. I did a fair bit of time in the Decathalon and became my favorite GA aircraft.

Yes! They didn't know what to do with it before I knew what the previous rego was. Being a very basic airframe basicly means I will need to log the inspection of every bolt and tube etc to meet the 51% rule. About the only thing I won't be doing that the orginal builder did was cut the tubing to size and do some bending/forming for the tailplane frame.

Though I would give you an update on the Lea Kestrel. Thanks to Howard for allowing me to check out his Kestrel and take many photos. It's amazing the things you miss on a viewing but pick up when looking at the photos. I finally found out that it was previously registered as 10-1213 and this information finally allowed the RAA to give me an answer to my questions on what I needed to do to register it! Assistant Tech Manager Jared Smith sent me this: The following will be required to complete registration of your Lea Kestrel. Statutory Declaration stating when and from who you purchased the aircraft from. Change of Ownership form with $65 payment Aircraft Data Sheet form Builders Log (outlining 51% constructed by you) Pre Flight Final Inspection completed by L4. Aircraft will go through a provisional flying period. Images of Registration markings on both sides of fuselage Image of MTOW placard Image of Warning Placard Payment for 12 months registration $250 (new Registration) CAO 95.10 Registration for Amateur Built category form Weight and Balance I can now go ahead with the work to get it ready for flying. I will have the motor overhauled, I am redoing the wiring and updating the panel, the wing skins need a couple minor addtions added, I will be redoing the elevator control cable and bottom tailplane flying wires plus an inspection of all airframe parts.
