  1. Sound good to me.
  2. Anyone going to the airport open day on the 28th? Last open day was very well organized.
  3. Is FT's real name Alan Jones?
  4. Did my gliding in the early eighties. Loved flying them...but the down side for me was the long waits for club aircraft, needing a team to get you flying (tow pilot & ground crew Etc). Had a chance to buy a half share in a open class glider or spend less on an ultralight. I chose the ultralight because I could take it out any time I wanted without the ground support team!
  5. Brisbane West was CASA's naming, probably not what the council would have wanted. Live export is one of the targeted freights for Wellcamp.
  6. I recall one interesting day doing circuits & bumps in a Drifter at Boonah with a strong crosswind.......sort of fun actually touching down on one wheel then powering on again for the next circuit all while balanced on that one wheel! Had sore leg muscles that night though from the intense rudder workout!
  7. Wellcamp Airport is not trying to encourage Brisbane residents to fly out of Toowoomba.....only those that live locally or would have to travel past Toowoomba to get to Brisbane such as western Darling Downs. Also will allow visitors direct access to Toowoomba. No freight is going to go from Brisbane to Toowoomba to be flown out. Wellcamp Airport is designed to capture the local and passing trade on the Darling Downs...not the freight from down the range.... it will still go to Brisbane. I remember reading recently that something like 40 odd percent of the freight leaving Brisbane comes via the Darling Downs and further west.
  8. Are you saying more freight should be going to Brisbane? Wellcamp is designed to attract the freight that comes from the Darling Downs and areas further west that would normally go to Brisbane hence cheaper freight costs. Wagners have built an adjacent industrial freight park and building the airport on site is the key to attracting the sort of businesses to promote growth. I am concerned about what might happen to Toowoomba airport down the track. I can't see Wellcamp being light aircraft friendly so we do need to keep an airport like the current Toowoomba one but I can see pressure to use the land for other uses.
  9. Welcome, Give us a rundown on your issues. Let's what forum member think.
  10. Did anyone see 7 new last night..showing the Wagner's super kingair landing at wellcamp in the very strong crosswind? It had to be 20 odd degrees of drift angle on short final. Pilot did an excellent job. They arrived to anounce that Qantas will be flying between Wellcamp and Sydney starting from Nov 17. Supposed to be able to book seats from yesterday....I tried online...but Qantas web site does not yet know Toowoomba is on the list of routes!!
  11. In the above posts....don't you mean Higher viscosity...... not lower viscosity when adding oil (thicker) to the fuel?
  12. I am using DJI iPad Ground Station to control my quad. It is easy to use and you may program upto 16 waypoints in. See www.dji.com
  13. G'Day, Welcome back! How many hours did your bfr take to get back in the groove again? A lot of things have changed since your last one. Cheers Wayne
  14. Hi, Welcome to the forum, did you visit Oshkosh recently? It's been a long while since I went there and loved the nearby seaplane base. You have some beautiful lakes up that way so I can understand your desire to get into seaplanes. Have fun! Wayne
  15. On 7 News onlookers said it had not even taken off when a gust of wind blew it across the field and over the fence. https://au.news.yahoo.com/qld/video/watch/24616741/tigermoth-flipped/
  16. Yes Nev, the Double Eagle uses an 1835 cc VW to pull it's 2 occupants skyward and the Legal Eagle/ Legal Eagle XL single seat models were designed to use a VW motor with only 2 cylinders fitted to the original crankcase (blanking plates are fitted to seal the back to cyl head holes in the crankcase). As I said......it's more of a fun 'around the patch' type of machine built with traditional aircraft building materials, chrome molly tube fuse and built up wooden wings. The seats are interesting......made from strips of aluminium woven into a cross hatch pattern! See http://www.doubleeagleairplane.com/ Wayne
  17. I have plans for the Double Eagle and the Legal Eagle xl. Not really a pretty aeroplane but it look reasonably straight forward to build and would bee a fun machine. Like the fact that the DE uses a VW motor. Has anyone built one or is considering one? Apreciate any feed back.
  18. Sat next to the Port side inlet in a DC9 out of Burbank, California to Las Vegas once. Scarely sounds from those turbines......on startup..the starter motor whine, the flame igniting then sounding like a oxy/ acet flame burning in a strong breeze, every RPM change in flight and the worst was looking out the window on a late curving left turn on to final and seeing (& feeling) we were now undershooting after just flying through a hot desert thermal with the power back near flight idle, then hearing the turbines slowly spool up to full power (Flame sounded like it was going to blow out again!) just before we reached the piano keys! Touch down was heavy then they pulled the power off again!
  19. Hi, Is the 'Mistress' sold? Cheers Wayne.

  21. At Redcliffe Aero Club on 3rd year apprentice wages in 1977 I was paying $18ph solo in a 1966 model C150 and $22ph Dual! Able to do 1 hour per week with no financial stress! Harder to achieve these days........must be something to do with being married!!!! Wayne
  22. Hi Everyone, ....Was online here 4 years ago before traveling Australia....by F250 & 5th Wheeler. Flew GA and Sailplanes back in the 70's & 80's then my own U/Light for a short time. Got married then but did get a chance to return to the skies at Boonah in a SB Drifter for a year before moving away to an area with no schools/hire aircraft. Hope to build/own my own aircraft one day when money and the wife allow! (Not necessarily in that order!)
