Thanks to Chris at Central West Flying. Insurance is all fixed.: http://www.psbgroup.com.au/Aviation.html Geoff Tonkin Great guy to deal with and a good price.
I am going to keep it very short term in the current hangar. I have to move it out though asap. Herm is keeping an eye out for me so the more that are talking and looking I should be ok. My biggest fear now is not having any where to put her. I am working on insurance today. i was thinking of ground only but I will pay the money for the first year and get full insurance although it is exceptionally expensive. Chris from Central West Flying School has put me onto a good guy so fingers crossed.
Well after a lot of questions to most of you I have finally made my decision. I have made an offer on a Jab170 at Adelaide Soaring Club Gawler. I looked at many different aircraft and drove most of you nuts with questions but in the end value for money the Jab170 ticked the most boxes for what I want to achieve and most importantly I could actually afford. There will be a few students at Gawler that will not like me because it is by far the best aircraft to fly out of the three 170's. Best of all I will be able to do the rest of my training in my own aircraft. Now I have to get the paperwork done and organize insurance.
I fly at Gawler and the club doesn't charge for Instructors because they are all volunteers and I might add very professional. I flew at a local school that charged $50 per hour for an instructor plus the aircraft. These instructors where volunteers as well. They too where extremely professional. I learnt to fly Gliders at Gawler and I must say my instructor was hard but fair and is still at Gawler instructing 16 yrs later. Again a volunteer.
Thanks Herm,
Away in Wallaroo for my birthday. I will be at Gawler next Friday afternoon, all day Saturday and human Factors course Sunday. Hope to catch up then and you can show me both planes. Enjoy this great weather.
Hi Gareth,
Enjoyed the chat the other night. I will be in Brisbane for a day on a cruise ship in October. It is great being able to get help and advice from people that have been there and done that. I hope to meet a lot more forum members over time. Maybe at a fly in one day.
I lost my best mate to Cancer 3 yrs ago. That really changed my thinking. He worked 12 hrs a day 7 days a week for a big house and no debt. His dream was to one day own a fishing boat and enjoy retirement. He didn't live long enough to enjoy life and i now don't intend to do the same. I work hard for my money but my wife and I enjoy a good life. She loves to travel so goes overseas with her mother every few years and I buy toys like a second hand plane. We have never had children so we have a good disposable income. Flying is so much cheaper than the big power boat I just got rid of. Live life for today as we may not be here tomorrow is my motto.
I have 3 options.
Sierra at around 70k ( not sure if GST applies )
Jab 170 ( 6314 ) 60k ( not sure if GST applies ) lots of hours. Basic with no GPS
Jab170 190 hrs immaculate 68k no GST leather interior and GPS
I really like the Sierra but can I justify an extra 17k ( if GST )
My wife and I want to do some major trips north.
Most flying will be within 1 hour to 2 hours from Gawler.
At the moment biggest problem is no hangar space at Gawler.
Oh well enjoying the research at the moment. Working hard to get my weight down at the moment. lOL
Thanks Alan. Catching up with Gareth tomorrow night for a beer and to talk about Sierra and his Morgan he is building. He will be in Adelaide on business. His ears will be bleeding by the time I shut up. LOL
Just a quick question. Can anyone tell me the fuel burn of a Jabiru 3300 at various speeds. If you have it for a Sierra that would be great. A Jabiru 230 will do though. I am interested to know at 90 knots cruise against 110 knots. I will research the net but nothing better than first hand knowledge. Thanks John
Guernsey any chance of a look at the Morgan? Unfortunately I can't get to Gawler Saturday. I flew today and I will be at the field most of next Friday. I am free Sunday if you where going to be at the field. Don't want to be a nuisance.
Gary is my instructor in the Jab170. Hopefully going up with him today. Great guy and a really good instructor. He must be because he sent me solo. lOL
They are great dogs. Such big sooks. A face only their mother could love. We took ours every where on our boat when we had it. Can't take her up flying though. I tried to post a photo of ours but can't get it to work.
I am a student pilot flying 7314 with Gary Williams. Was learning at Murray bridge but Gawler is more cost effective and a lot closer to home. had a great chat with Jab170 last weekend. Hopefully flying Friday weather permitting. Second Solo.
Names John.
