  1. I have just looked at my Glider Licence and realised I got it 16 yrs ago. What are the chances that it will still count towards my RA licence. Wow I cant believe it was that long ago.
  2. It is a long way off till I MAY (If allowed) be looking to buy a second hand aircraft. Today while at RPA I saw an add for a half share in a Jabiru and was then told about a quarter share in another aircraft. I have never considered going into a syndicate while in boats but what do you all think of this in aircraft?
  3. Ok maybe I should change this thread but can anyone put me on the right track? I have never flown seated side by side always front and back in gliders. Today when landing I was always landing the aircraft offline due to my thinking I was flying straight. When I got it right it looked to me that I was about 30 to 40 degs to the right. How do you sight on final to get the angle correct.
  4. Thanks Allan. Gliders and powered aircraft are very different beasts. I miss my airbrakes on the glider.
  5. Flew with James from RPA Murray Bridge today. I flew the 160 and loved it. I felt very comfortable and could even use the throttle. I did circuits doing touch and go and glide landings. I wont say I did any good landings but I didn't bend the aircraft. James is a great instructor and all round nice guy. I am so glad I can keep flying with RPA. I am looking forward to trying a 170 one of these days but very happy to fly the 160 for a long time yet. I can end this thread now and start another one.
  6. I have contacted James this morning at RPA and told him of my problems. He is going to take me up in the 160 on Sunday so hopefully all will be fixed. Come on Sunday I can't wait. Thank you everyone for your help and advice. I will post how I get on.
  7. Thank you Paul for an honest answer. I will make some calls today and see where I end up. I just want to learn to fly and enjoy the experience. I live 90 minutes travel from MB so my intention is to do 2x1hr lessons in a day to reduce the travel. I hope to catch up and meet you soon.
  8. I have flown at Gawler in Gliders and liked the field. They have a 160. The other flight school at Murray bridge have 160 and 170. I will check everything out but I would like to stay with RPA if I can fly their 160. I will phone james tomorrow.
  9. I got my glider C license at Gawler about 8 yrs ago. I drove past the strip the other day and was surprised at all of the sheds there now.
  10. Really nice bunch of guys. I flew with Doc today. Nice guy and some great stories.
  11. I will ring tommorrow. I would like to stay with rpa but i was told today i cant learn in the 160. Will ring and check. Thanks for your help.
  12. Thanks. Even if I loose 20 kgs my shoulders will still be the same size. I need to find a school near Adelaide that has the 160 or 170 now.
  13. Firstly to explain I have just started to learn to fly Powered Aircraft. I am learning at Murray Bridge in an Jabiru LSA. Secondly I am 5 foot 8 inches tall and weigh 110kg. Yes I am overweight but also very broad shouldered. The problems. I find it almost claustrophobic in the LSA and very restricted. Worst of all though is I cannot reach the throttle which is down on the front of the seat. Questions. I know a lot of Jabiru have a throttle on the dash so I think this might solve one problem. Is the 160 or 170 Jabiru any bigger inside the cockpit? If I can't solve these issues then flying is not going to work. I can hear you saying loose weight. As much as I like my new flying school I will have to change to one that has different aircraft. Any suggestions?
  14. Hi Paul. I will make sure that i introduce myself to you. I am flying on ANZAC day and probably the following Sunday. You wouldn't happen to know an old friend of mine that flies out of Murray Bridge? David Searle. I want to get back in touch with him after many years. He used to fly with RFDS I think.
  15. The only thing I really have to get used to is the ground rush as you are landing. Never bothered me in the glider but sure seemed awful fast yesterday coming into a gravel strip. Yes I did find myself constantly looking for a nice paddock to land in all the time. LOL I was surprised how nicely the Jabiru did actually glide. Can't wait to get into the air again.
  16. Hi Everyone. I went for my first flight in a Jabiru 160 today at Murray Bridge. I looked at the aircraft and my size and thought no way. I had a great trial flight and was allowed to do everything but land. Needless to say I am now going to get my Recreational Pilots Licence. Because I have a Glider Licence it shouldn't take me too long to solo. Here's to a new challenge in life.
  17. From the album: Compulsion

Flying from Gawler to Clare Valley. Unfortunately moisture got into the housing through condensation at height.
