  1. The use of the word 'maggots' in title of this thread is a generalization and offensive. Unfortunately it is a clear indication of the mentality of some of our membership and moderators. Not impressed.
  2. I am running the same set up, separate naca duct to oil cooler with air flow to cooler controlled by butterfly valve. Same observations too, closed most of the time and opened as required to maintain 80 - 90 degrees C.
  3. I believe it was weather related; scud running and controlled flight into terrain.
  4. Just over 48% of all 3 axis RAAus aircraft are Jabiru. Thanks CASA and co.
  5. And it appeared to be well behaved. Nice one.
  6. Looks like intergranular corrosion to me. The prop hub halves have been machined from a block of aluminium and machining has cut the grain causing stress risers.
  7. Or use some flap on take off to effectively introduce washout.
  8. Neither was the left. Trying to compensate the right roll with left stick - right wing stalling. Lowering the nose would have been his only hope.
  9. I had a GT 400 for a few years and really enjoyed it. I flew a mate's GT500 a few times and it was even better! Laurie
  10. Same here mate. I didn't put one and one together until later on the forum as to who you were - nice bike mate. You were right; it's hard to judge a person's character on a forum. Laurie.

  12. Too right. My recent little 2 week flight. Laurie (by the way, is Ornis the fellow who drowned his poor Jabbie on a beach in NZ?)

  14. Arrived home today. My little UL Jab performed faultlessly for the entire trip. Overall the flight was just under 33 hours. All the plane needed was fuel (mostly avgas) and about 1 litre of oil. Fr John's oil leak turned out to be a faulty 'O' ring under the oil pump housing cover. This was fixed by Keith of Camit. Excellent service by Ian Bent. He and his company get my whole hearted endorsement. Yesterday was a big day of flying for me. Jacob Well (north of the Gold Coast) to Porepunkah with refuelling stops at Moree, Dubbo and Cowra - 7.5 hours flying. Fortunately the actual weather was nothing like what was forecast. Headwinds of 20 to 25 knots were forecast but I managed to find initially only about 10 knots of head wind that dropped to nil and later a light tail wind. The relatively short trip home today from Porepunkah was one of those awesome winter days. Initially a light headwind that ended up being a healthy tail wind - Porepunkah, Murtleford, Eildon, Healesville, Warburton, Powelltown and YLTV. Whipped off the cowls at YLTV and dropped the oil before heading home to Drouin. Great to be home - back to work tomorrow. Laurie
  15. Great welcome by a heap of top folks at Starke Field. Now camping at Emu Park. Walked into town and got a great feed of Spanish mackerel.
  16. Doesn't appear to be badly damaged. Nose gear squashed and mains a little flattened.
  17. I'm not a fan of the oil line connectors used in Jab installations. I did mine using AN6 fittings and braided Teflon lines. These won't fail in a hurry. For those interested my oil cooler installation and changes to air management has resulted in very good (low) CHT's. Just done the 75 hour service and there has been no 'head recession'. No movement in head bolts and tappet clearances stable. Loz
  18. Unless it's a cat or two of course!
  19. Nice short flight from YLTV and around South Gippsland this afternoon to warm up the oil. Back at the valley dropped the oil and filter in preparation for next weeks departure for FNQ. I'll be taking my Spot Tracker on the trip. This link should show my tracks when it's on. http://share.findmespot.com/shared/faces/viewspots.jsp?glId=0LDFU68oKqqhW1eJX2Xgk81hO5Dfqm9Qr
  20. Tubs, A 3 axis aircraft is like a see saw while a trike is like a swing. You can use figures to calculate the cg of a see saw but doesn't matter how you load a swing within its weight limits because gravity ensures it will always be directly below the Hang Point. Loz
  21. The UL450 now has over 70 hours and going very nicely. About to have a 25 hourly in preparation for upcoming North QLD trip.

  23. The young bloke under canopy saying he saw one wing flapping changed things a bit - trike wings don't flap unless something has let go in the structure.
  24. It looked like he made no attempt to roll out of the spiral.
