  2. Thanks all for your contributions. The Council Public Consultation has just begun, and that's why this guy is now making a noise. We shall see what comes of all of this soon enough. If I can speak to the land owner, I will give him your suggestions.
  3. rdarby - my point is he is scare-mongering with a whole lot of incorrect facts. The general public don't know what we know. They will just believe his lies and exagerations, and then prevent the project - for no reason. This really annoys me and many others. It is actually none of my business - I do not intend to use the airpark, but others of us do, and there is a regular 'knocking on the head' of entrepreneurial projects here, then complaints about lack of employment. Rediculous. Thus far the project does have council support - but this lier guy is intent on stopping it. Another incorrect fact you guys wouldn't know about regarding 'why not use the local airport and it's facilities' is that the airport manager is doing her best to prevent the use of Hervey Bay airport for recreational aircraft purposes! Especially my instructors trike business. Another entrepreneurial kick in the pants.

  5. An airpark is proposed for the local suburb of Sunshine Acres in Hervey Bay. There is already and has been for some time an airstrip at that location with operational aircraft. A local (who doesn't like change or seems to be against any form of advancement in the area) has written a negative flyer and distributed in the area. He often writes letters of complaint to the paper. First - I didn't know if I should place this post here or in the Funnies section. But have a read and a laugh and please comment about it pointing out the things that sound ludicrous to you! I want to totally destroy all of the letters and the writers credibility on this matter if required. See attached flyer. It came to my attention when it was read on a local radio station. I abruptly went to the station and warned them about reading this again!

Can someone with the book tell me if Wanggoolba Airstrip Fraser Island is listed and if it mentions the landing fee. Also maybe check Childers AD too. If it does go to that level then it will be a useful reference for me to have. Thanks.

  9. How does the freedom of information act system work if trying to obtain data such as this from accidents? Is there a time frame involved? Are there past accidents that we would now data access to?
  10. I bought a nurses fob watch on ebay. White face, black hands and easy to see the second hand. $7 delivered. Nice and simple. But i like those watches.... Tempting Mal!
  11. Thanks Andy, I have read much of that info before. I record the news so that I can watch it later. I was able to watch the clip a few times, and in slow-mo when it showed some guy carrying the wheel spat that had separated from the aircraft. I was looking for any damage to the spat where the screws mount it to the brackets around the wheel. There was a reasonable chunk missing, which suggests it was ripped off when it hit the water OR may have been cracked and came of in flight as suggested... I would really appreciate knowing what happened. Are there more of these types of accidents waiting to happen. I guess that is always in the back of our minds, and knowing what went wrong is a big step to preventing it happening again.
  12. That is a good point! So maybe that is what happened. How can a spat come off. I always preflight mine to check they aren't loose. Maybe the do go unnoticed?

A spat wouldn't cause the crash though - only a loss of power and engine imbalance due to prop damage - and it's unlikely a spat could even go through the prop being so far to the sides. i guess it could under certain circumstances though (sharp turn and/or prop air-thrust intake). But gliding should still have been possible, and maybe that's what did happen, but they couldn't make land and ditched in the water. I hope the correct details come to light soon. This is the same trike model I own, so it makes you think! Condolences to all family, friends and those that knew the pilot and passenger.
  14. We have had rubbish wet weather for too long. I have flown once since 20th january, and now there is a cyclone predicted to form end of this week. Who knows what that is going to do. Hopefully things may dry out enough before the end of the week for a good fun fly before things turn very wet again. And the wind is getting up tonight too. :-( The smiles wont work on my ipad. It just goes to the home page....
  15. Hervey Bay isn't the best place to fly if we consider the current flooding and rain events, plus the wind during summer. But if you want to talk about the scenery and places to fly to, then it's awesome... Turquoise blue waters, Fraser Island sand-blows, beaches and lakes - just fantastic. Day trips to Rainbow Beach and other nearby airfields are also ideas for the adventurous

Yes i had a really nice relaxed flight this morning, ( before the rough weather set in which is now blowing 20kts) and managed my first solo landing over our intimidating power lines at the north end of our strip. I called them psychologically disturbing once. My confidence and enjoyment of freedom improves with each flight.
  21. I hate too think what Bundaberg looks like. They seem to have had the biggest infrastructure damage. I've heard it and Maryborough really smell due to stagnant mud etc. But with Rockhampton waiting for the peak, there will be more to see. By the time I got in the air due to poor weather and a soggy airfield, most of the water here had already dropped, so the video doesn't show the full drama, but still gives a feeling of disaster in the making. As it happened I was very cautious about the heavy cloud and showers to my south when flying in Maryborough. I didn't want to stick around for too long. Got back the Hervey Bay and it was lovely and sunny.
