So a touring RAA pilot needs an asic to land at a sec controlled airstrip to refuel and take off again. When applying for asic an RAA pilot is discouraged from applying as deemed not necessary. What to do, what to do...

I was having some lessons and a lot of fun with Dave in the cub, I came in to land and his left foot shoe got jammed around the rudder pedal. We were heading for the fence, Dave swearing away, ended up ground looping in time, no damage, but Dave took of his shoes and chucked them over the fence. We then lay on the ground just laughing like crazy. RIP Dave.

Those temps entirely normal for cowled engine, good luck getting better.

I really appreciate Bernoulli but surely if you got a BBQ plate moving fast enough and increased AOA it would fly. Lots of aircraft have wings with identical profiles each side of the centreline, so does the Bernoulli effect simply enhance a wings behaviour..?

What is the VA of the aircraft? In my 600kg max aircraft I can cruise at 115 ktas but rarely do as normally conditions can get quite rough at any time of the day. I can't imagine wanting to go at that speed in such a light plane.

Biggest issue you have there is choice between electrically dependant aircraft or not. Fuel injected engine shuts down pretty quick with no electrons flowing, and you pay a huge premium for the pleasure. Airframe and fuel system also has to take into account likely fuel return lines to tank, duplex fuel valves, high pressure fuel pumps operating continuously, associated high pressure lines and filters. Personally I think the carbie/magneto and coil ignition is the way to go, once running you are not relying on an electrical system to keep running. Electronic ignition and fuel injection is certainly a more efficient way to manage the engine but comes with its own requirements and associated maintenance and much higher install cost. How far do you want to fly, how much weight and really how much do you want to spend?

760 kg perfect for RV 9, if you want to fly high. Lyc 150 hp perfect for that.

Warwick to Palgrave direct is about 18nm, so only 10 mins or so flight time after taking off after refueling. So clearly catastrophic RIP

Has anyone found that the altitude is accurate using an ipad with ozrunways but always reads 100 ft higher with a samsung phone or tablet?

Like you say...".I guess I have to make a careful assessment of wear and tear first..". I'm a big fan of correctly identifying the fault first, before having a big collection of un needed expensive spare parts.
