  1. There was a thread on this a couple of weeks back. Someone asked why so thick? 3mm is thick, heavy and would be hard to bend. My screen is 1.5 or 2mm and quite adequate for hitting birds, etc. especially if your screen is sloped well back to deflect much of the impact. You can bend it and secure it in place, but I suspect that invites stress crazing over time. When motocycle helmet screens did this, oncoming headlight glare was a major danger. As I posted here long ago, I used heat to take the stress out of my first screen- that was a disaster! It turned milky white and exploded! Poly is hygroscopic, you need to cook the water out overnight in an oven at 60C before heat forming at about 130+.
  2. This is where I get mine- and lots of good stuff. The good news is that a few years ago the price of Lexan dropped about 50%, presumably when they switched to Chinese supplisers. http://www.specialisedwholesale.com.au
  3. Still much less traumatic than trying to transit through the US.
  4. Seems lots of councils have broken that agreement.
  5. Eighty years on from the Dambusters Raid — a mission so secretive the details were kept from the crew until the night before - ABC News WWW.ABC.NET.AU Today marks 80 years since the Dambusters Raid during World War II, a mission so secretive the crew didn't even know their target until the night before.
  6. This Cessna landed on a local grass strip without issues:
  7. Ahh, bench seats!
  8. Sorry about the delay; first time I couldn’t quickly lay my hands on something in my shed. Time for a clean-out/tidy-up! It’s a bit smaller than standard oil cooler that came with my Jab 2.2 but deeper. It seems top have about the same surface area. I guess it depends on how much airflow it gets. My original cooler is out front and keep oil at 85C during summer. In winter I cover most of it with tape and narrow down the outlet flap.
  9. I have one that only got a couple of hours’ use (I was trying a NACA duct intake and it was a dismal failure, sovi went back to the old one.) It’s shorter and deeper than the original, but should have years of life ahead.
  10. Not always, Skip. Quite often our politicians have a cordial relationship with their opponents; the current NSW Premier and his predecessor are good examples. It’s often members of their own party they despise, but have to work with. The ALP, the LNP, the Greens, Shooters, One Nation… all have a long history of internal fueding and backstabbing.
  11. Who says the “radiator” has to be rectangular? A home-made exchanger could be made to fit the available space.
  12. Marty the solution is obvious: up front is too plurry crowded, so put it where there’s mobs of unused space:
  13. I bludged on other people! My mum had an amazing memory for family history and absorbed everything she heard - even from my dad’s side. When she was at my place in her 80s she started recounting some stories, so I laid out some butcher’s paper and we drew up a family tree going back almost 200 years- all from her memory. One sister has done years of research via the net, another got her DNA tested. About time I pulled my weight and did my bit!.
  14. The AAT has been used by the LNP as a lucrative retirement home for their failed mates: The government's ransacking of the AAT is shocking. Where's the media? WWW.CRIKEY.COM.AU The Coalition has again stacked the highly-paid, quasi-judicial review body with its mates, on the eve of the election. Mark Dreyfus says AAT has ‘unacceptable’ record on bullying and condemns appointment process | Australian politics | The Guardian WWW.THEGUARDIAN.COM Attorney general says Liberal party should be ‘tarnished forever’ over appointments to administrative appeals tribunal
  15. That “Three Waves” theory has always made sense to me, but mainstream anthropologists claim it has been disproved. Maybe. I’ve had a beer in Kuranda Pub with a bloke who sure looked Negrito: round face, little body hair, short stature. Early white explorers of the Murray described the natives as having receding hair, lightish skin and lots of body hair. Very different to the taller, very dark people found across the north of our continent. NZ probably has a much more interesting human history than we’re being told; there are plenty of stories of red-haired people living there long before the Polynesians arrived. I’d like to see lots more genetic research into humanity’s origins, uninhibited by political considerations. I’ll kick off with my own story: After being a white fella for seven decades, I’ve recently discovered that I’m Nigerian. (Well, actually about 2%). My 5th Great grandfather was born of African parents in Jamaica about 1715.
  16. Ian this site’s search function could be improved. The engine threads are a great resource, but it sure isn’t easy to look up a previous discussion. I type in a phrase that definitely appears there, but it comes up empty.
  17. Checking your CHT readings with a couple of different instruments is always a good idea. A temp probe under near the ex port might shock you.
  18. An aircraft descends pretty fast under a canopy; engineers stipulate a nose-down attitude so the undercarriage absorbs much of the impact. I’ve heard of serious injuries when a low-wing hit water.
  19. The vertical speed quoted is quite a bit faster than if you fly it into a paddock and might result in severe injuries if your seat is not designed for it. I fitted a BRS; It cost $6k and weighs about 10kg, pushing up my normal stall speed. This has reduced safety. On the other hand, it me feel better and it might save me if I can not control the aircraft.
  20. Ditto Marty’s comments, Ian. Best of all, the site hasn’t changed too much lately, so we know our way around.
