    Classic example of jumping to conclusions on insufficient evidence. Due to a very superficial similarity to another drawing, this person has concluded that a civilisation which has left no evidence whatsoever of powered tools has actually invented x-ray. This is tinfoil hat stuff. Some other space cadets think it's some kind of sand blaster (not a snake holding science experiment) - as the original carving looks quite different to the cartoon pictured. My guess - it's some dude proud of the massive marrow/zucchini/eggplant he's grown. The truth is that we have no idea whether this drawing was based on something in reality, something that a priest dreamed up about the afterlife, or just Egyptian science fiction. It's like someone in the future reading Asimov and concluding that humanoid robots were widespread in the mid 20th century.

    I don't see how. It would be too expensive to ship it out from the US for a couple of airshows.

    Your memory is better than mine! Now you mention it I remember that T-28 crash. Not long after that we had one of the US carriers come into Hobart, and I remember talking to some pilots (sorry, "naval aviators") in a bar one night. They were like "Bob HOOVER flew here? Where's the strip? How do we get there?" I think a bunch of them hired a car and drove up there just to do a pilgrimage to the site where Hoover flew. I have an inkling that Hoover at that point wasn't allowed to fly in the US and Australia had given him a licence, so that may have added to the attraction.

    I ended up getting an Aeroflow manifold. My attempt at tapping my own was not entirely successful. Also have some Mikuni jets on order for restrictors.

    Skyrace Tasmania. Also Chris Sperou landed his Pitts Special upside down, but not sure whether that was the same year - I went a couple of times.

    I saw Hoover do that in an Aero Commander about 20 years ago.

    My lovely wife bought me a Tamiya 1:48 scale Mk 1 Spitfire for my birthday earlier this year. Unfortunately I don't have any paints so until I source those, she stays in the box.

    Check the BRS website. When I was considering putting one on the recommended cover was light polycarb or similar, with a circle scored in it and radiuses scored from the centre out in 45 degree increments. The intention being that if the rocket fired it'd break through the scored polycarb and those radii would open up like a flower. I agree with the others re strut mounts and bolt types. Not a huge investment to replace all the essential (wing-holding-on and primary control) bolts with proper AN ones, and you'll get peace of mind. Definitely need to take the paint off those strut mounts and check for cracks though. What is the part with the crack in the side where you asked if a doubler should be used? If at all important I would fabricate a new one - doesn't look very big but the rolled edge may give you trouble.

    Hi all, Interested in where to source a pitot head in Australia. The CH701 plans just show the single (facing airflow) tube under the wing, but it seems common that people use the double tube where static is on the same probe either concentric or parallel. Aircraft Spruce have them for about $40 US - https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/inpages/pitot15144.php - but it's the postage that kills it! If unavailable in Aus, has anyone built one? I'm guessing the static tube has the forward end closed but small holes drilled into the side - how many, what size? etc. Do you use 1/4" nylon or plastic tube? All advice welcome. Cheers, Marty

    It doesn't surprise me that Phantoms etc can fly with wings folded - but imagine the landing speed...

    If it was a 727, I believe their cruise speed was in the order of 40 knots higher than 737's to start with.

    I think there's a fairly big thread over in Social Australia about this. For me Occam's Razor informs. What's more likely - aliens that have the technology to travel thousands of light years yet can't drive properly in Earth's atmosphere and only appear to Daily Mail readers, or existing phenomena - weather balloons, auroras, ball lightning, light patterns, electronic glitches and hoaxes? As for US congress - half of them seriously believe Trump is their best hope, so not a lot of logic going on in those heads.

    You're limited with some aircraft for sight tubes. On mine for instance the wing roots reduce in size close to the cabin, so there's no way to have a full height sight tube.

    That's another alternative Nev but I'd question whether it's simpler, as you're adding another component which requires plumbing in just to move the top-mounted sender from the tank. I wouldn't mind cutting a 59mm hole in the top of the tank, but I very much don't want to cut any holes in the side or bottom.
