  1. Thanks Mike, will do. They're coming from China so I'm not expecting them for a while.
  2. What about the hundreds that lost their lives on a refugee boat at the same time this was happening? Did the wealthy countries spend any money on them while spending millions looking for 5 men?
  3. Great idea Nev. sfGnome, if you were in Tassie instead of NSW I'd be tempted to join a building group too.
  4. The Rotax regulator is just a Ducati part anyway isn't it?
  5. Actually - wouldn't rollover protection be afforded by the A frame kingpost structure that holds the upper wires?
  6. Probably wouldn't be hard to design a quick-release rollover bar. Leave it off for ground viewing, put it on before flight.
  7. I notice Rotax installation manual says that long lengths of aluminium can be used as long as they're beaded and able to withstand the heat requirements. One of these may be a worthwhile investment... https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/234544596821?hash=item369bf28755:g:G1UAAOSwA71kM7i2&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAAwBk6yijGBkso46A%2F7NWNCE%2BEvxHTOaaxuiU%2BYrDFg6NxgqVJjnjwQRYAePrfWYiL48%2BIihSMf5v7WKgNuxfxs0Se1qEeLTeHK%2BicDC30rW0if9h6UZRr1EuKzqrn4zXNIN7%2Bso35FSdPWSOxBffIHTE6jilGS0jVoua7DLwd0mgjnhQqefgPTYRByeF5N2kzILztof7JRApbTF84kVawn7PbL%2BAN3lzf6QHc3FppfiyNeJqJornolhX%2Bz0hNeBp8Ew%3D%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR5jA4aqfYg
  8. I guess if they're a friend, you give them a chute too... if they're a REAL friend, you actually push them out first!
  9. Hi all, in regards to @danny_galaga's original post about radiator hoses... having never installed radiator hoses on anything before (including cars) - is standard procedure to locate one long length with the right shape to extend from the radiator to the expansion bottle / radiator to water pump (very difficult!), or do you do it with a series of bends and straight sections joined with 25mm beaded aluminium joiners? Thanks, Marty
  10. Easily, maybe not - but sheer desperation would add plenty of incentive to exit the aircraft if required. Collecting the HS on the way out would be my concern.
  11. How about a third option, remove the seat cushions and wear the chute?
  12. You're right there @Kyle Communications and @Old Koreelah. Fibreglass (carbon fibre is worse) is messy, sticky, smelly and dangerous. Full face 3M filter mask and nitrile gloves to lay up, cut and sand CF. Compare this to aluminium - clean, nice to work with, and won't kill you unless you open an artery on a sharp bit. Complex curves are a bit of a problem though. So yes - if it came to a choice between fibreglassing and getting those jeans on/off a supermodel, pass the baby powder.
  13. From memory there's a light purple/lilac coloured one for the soft start module - not that, is it?
  14. Last weekend I carved another wooden grip so have the matched pair now. Pulled through the cables @nomadpete made up for the PTT's and put the stick back on. Kate reckons it looks like an alien' s eye stalks now...
  15. Cowl fitted again with a hole for the radiator end. Bit of a bugger as the blister I have is too big so I'll be doing more fibreglassing.
  16. Just thinking back to my teenage years Mark - that cover looks like it needs a subwoofer in it 😁
  17. Thanks Rob, that's very handy. I wondered what that nipple on the oil tank is, now I know - overflow!
  18. I bought some oil cooler fittings from a local performance auto store (ended up going with Aeroflow fittings) and thanks to research done by @skippydiesel I went with Gates 8GTH half inch hose, stocked by the local Hardy Spicer ($67 inc GST for 2m, if anyone's looking at prices). The Aeroflow fittings weren't cheap but the 135 and 45 degree angles on them means a better run for the oil lines. Photos show temporary fitting - still waiting on some ally M22x1.5 nuts I've ordered, I'm in no rush so ordered from China. Will still probably have to cut them down to fit them under the oil cooler mounting. Hoses can disconnect quite easily. Unfortunately I'm going to have to take the knife to the cowl (again - it's going to have more blisters than a teenager with acne) - the starboard side of the radiator is pressed hard against it and there's no wriggle room. Hoping to do that tomorrow. I have a spare carbon fibre blister as I made 2 when I only needed 1 for the throttle clearance.
  19. Lovely watching those big slow models. Too often r/c models are too quick/agile and it doesn't look like a real aircraft.
  20. That's very generous, you have to let me pay postage! Will PM.
  21. Hey folks, Wondering what people use for this. Standard from Flood's or is there an auto equivalent for 1/10th the price? As far as I can work out from the Installation manual, Rotax specifies a container that may have up to half a litre of overflow (so 800ml or 1L size?), hose from the expansion tank going to the bottom, and a 3mm hole in the top vented down through the cowl. Level of coolant in the overflow tank to sit no lower than 250mm below the expansion tank. Are my assumptions correct there and what sort of bottle do you use? Thanks!
  22. That doesn't sound like a valid excuse to me.
  23. Thanks Bob, that's very similar to what I've done so far... so in the photos ignore the fact that the oil cooler isn't actually there, the bracket holds it. Top of the OC brackets have vibro-stops, then at the bottom/back there's vibro-stops going to the radiator, and also on the bottom of the radiator - and the longerons going from the top to bottom of the radiator are bolted to the bottom engine threaded holes. I still have to adjust this, maybe get it closer to the muffler, as the cowling makes contact with the starboard side of the radiator right now.
  24. Seems to be a popular spot Nev. Other option is on a welded plate on the engine mount, but that requires a separate NACA inlet, duct and shroud.
  25. It's a long time since the 1930's Bob - my demure bride has no problem telling me where she's going. And sending me to the woodshed at the same time.
