  1. Bloody hell you work fast Mark. Slow down - you're making the rest of us look bad!
  2. Hi Derek, I'm interested in which bit of the plans you found erroneous. I picked up a 20mm difference in where the plans showed the slat holder slots to be and where they actually should be, but that's the only thing. (So far - still have to do the struts and mount the wings!)
  3. It goes outside, Bob. It's a bit strange in that the upper cowl actually goes inside the lower one, but it just fits better that way. Pleased that the dzus are nice and tight on the 2 layers of cowl, so I guess I'll have to pack out the springs for the ones that go on to the aluminium.
  4. I've now got 10 out of the 19 DZUS installed - 4 each side and one each side of the prop hole.
  5. At 540kph I can't see it dodging sailboats. As long as the mast is under 10m they should be fine...
  6. 100 passengers = 100 oars...
  7. Good idea, thanks Mike.
  8. I already had it clecoed in all joining positions - around 16-20 I think, so the holes were already in position in 1/8". I made a guide with 3 holes in the position of the DZUS centre hole and the 2 rivet holes, all 1/8", so I just cleco the guide to the existing holes, drill and countersink the other two, cleco the thin aluminium supports on the outside to guide expanding the middle hole to 10.5mm - then flip them to the inside and rivet them and the spring thingy together. Then expand the outer cowl's hole to 10.5 as well (using a step drill seemed to work well and keep it centred).
  9. Installed some dzus on the cowl - only got 2 done. Fiddly but work well, so I'm happy with that.
  10. Exactly - same reason everyone uses 18v power tools. Sometimes you want to go places you can't get to with a cord.
  11. The thing about hydrogen, for cars anyway, is that it doesn't make sense. You use a lot of electric power to produce it - so why not just use electricity? It's an added layer of complication and power wastage.
  12. She's a beautiful aircraft. All the bells & whistles too.

    Xi'an Y-20

Certainly bears a remarkable resemblance to the C-17.
  14. I notice that you haven't listed anything to do with climate change, health or education, which I would put way above roads, sporting clubs and men's sheds in importance. No offence - but they're responsible for tackling the big problems, which they aren't doing.
  15. Yeah I read that today and agree with everyone - totally uninspiring and unconvincing pile of horse dung. You expect actual representatives of a government body - whose job it is - to attempt, no matter how half heartedly, to justify the policies they're paid to implement. You don't expect it from an academic.
  16. How do you decide what angle to set the blades at? I've heard that WOT on the 912 is meant to be 5800 (I think).
  17. Excellent idea Bob. The instructions talk about a wooden stick but the laser pointer sounds far easier.
  18. Glad no-one took that bet then!
  19. It's back in the box for a while Peter... no point putting it on until I'm ready to adjust it, it'd just suffer hangar rash. I had to keep them away from the kids... they took one look at the blades and yelled "light sabre practice!!". Yeah, nah.
  20. Finally opened my birthday present!
  21. There's not much to it when you look at how he's done it. Underside of the fuselage pod is triangular section, those tail booms (which look like boxy air intakes but actually separate from the fuse pod) appear to be almost 2-dimensional, ie very thin. I'd almost be tempted to call that wing "swept back" rather than delta (despite the straight TE) as it's got a reasonable span vs chord. The front strakes appear to be flat too. Willing to bet it's mostly out of thin aluminium, 0.016" or 0.020" at the max.
  22. You could always shoehorn a 912 in it. Might need a short 5-bladed prop to clear the tailbooms though.
  23. haha - probably the same way you know who he is!
  24. If anyone's a beaver expert, I reckon this bloke is.
  25. Hi Mike, I don't, but found it on the web. https://www.kitplanes.com/diy-firewall-boots/ Thanks! Good idea.
