  1. Timely discussion, I was about to ask about Polycarbonate windscreens. Assume that similar (couple of drops of detergent in water, microfibre cloth rinsed often, then dry microfibre) is ok?
  2. Thanks Ian for your time, money and effort you put into maintaining these sites. As others have said over on Social Australia, they are fantastic to maintain social connections. Remembering when "off topic" was a forum as part of Rec Flying - I think you made it a separate site as there were many members who didn't want to talk politics/religion/whatever, and didn't like that forum filling up the "what's new" screen. Could you roll it back into Rec Flying but have an option where people can opt out of seeing it? That way those of us who like talking general shit can still do so, without bothering anyone who only wants to talk shit about planes... 🙂
  3. Hi Fallowdeer, In the end I decided to make one - I've made the plane so the cover shouldn't be impossible.
  4. Yeah the quote was a bit high for me (not saying they're expensive, just that I'm cheap). I've ordered a car cover from Ebay and will set to work with scissors and the wife's sewing machine when it arrives.
  5. Why are they against Asian cooking?
  6. I still have the scars on 3 fingers on my left hand where I was careless around a prop as a teenager. Light blue is a silly colour for a prop, but reaching for the needle valve through the prop arc is even sillier.
  7. Good production. Good luck with the sale!
  8. Otherwise known as the mincing machine - for the pilot and anyone around them.
  9. I want to get a weather proof cover for the 701 - mainly because the windscreen and top polycarbonate get very dusty where it's currently sitting. Just sent a request for quote to Punkin Head - are there any other suppliers you can recommend? Anyone made their own?
  10. Thanks Planey! I tend to stick with normal foul language on the occasion that things don't go as planned. Have to say though, that's a reasonably rare event as the Zenith plans are generally spot on - any f-ups are my own fault!
  11. Wing root top skins done. Starting to look like a real one!
  12. I thought you needed a native Italian speaker to translate the Savannah book!
  13. Good stuff Christin... glad to see you build by "die book"! 😆
  14. Wow, people still do control line? I tried that when I was 14. Spent more time trying to adjust the needle valve than I did flying. Just ordered an electric powered glider kit from Ali express, I reckon I can fly it from the neighbours property up the road. Laser cut balsa, none of this polystyrene stuff.
  15. Nylocs on the outer bolts, but the bolts that go to the prop flange go into press fit round nuts and are drilled head.
  16. On with the Bolly! Not final fit, not torqued up and not pitched. (Definitely not lock wired!). Just to allow me to manually turn the motor, since I installed the round nuts my old wooden plank "prop" won't fit. 230mm (9") clearance to ground.
  17. Second flaperon on yesterday. Still have to adjust the fuselage slots a little to allow for full up/down with and without flap.
  18. Interesting article (fairly light weight). https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/article/2024/aug/09/australian-kestrels-may-hold-the-key-to-helping-drones-hover Obviously the weight and complexity of wing morphing is currently out of reach of full size aircraft, but possible for drones.

    Martin Mars and Piper Cub

Nice video of a Mars doing a flight test. Interestingly, single tail instead of twin tails like the one shown above. Impressive beast on the water!

So... Is a pilot who touches down successfully called a "Mars Lander"?

    elvis's jetstar motorhome

Probably has to get 10,000 people through it to break even.

    elvis's jetstar motorhome

Tight cornering wouldn't be too easy with that massive front overhang. I probably would have dispensed with that separate chromed chassis and incorporated it into the lower part of the fuse, with front wheels out with their own mudguards and the back wheels in the wing stubs.
  23. "Lateral drive shaft" is mentioned.
  24. Interesting design. Guessing that the lack of tail rotor is because the side motors are used to balance out rotational forces from the main rotor - in which case you could only ever stop one side motor (and the same side too).
  25. Been a while since I had a day on the plane. Today I riveted the end cap and pivot/horn plate on the starboard flaperon, riveted the pivot pin on, sleeved the rod end for the AN5-10 bolt on the bellcrank and cut the slot in the fuselage. I seem to have lost the nuts for the ball ends so will have to source those, but it moves up and down (the right way) which is a good start 🙂
