  1. From what I found when enquiring only: GST is paid on the lot including freight, Go figure. Import duties for aircraft part is Nil.
  2. Llew, check out the latest RAA Mag it has the starting of a series of articles on the reg requirements for the higher weight range.
  3. Motz, actually with instruments I think it is in their design that the fault lies. To get your attention there needs to be something to notice, a pointer does not do this. I assume all over Australia the 40 Km School signs are active. The LCD flashing ones are good examples. I hardly ever travel at schooltime so would not notice them unless they flashed. This is where a glass panel can improve on steam gauges. When every thing is normal they are only Green, when changing outside of normal parameters they are Orange, when over the trigger point they are flashing Red. Also they could trigger meaningful voice prompts. Human factors training is very good but some human factors will always be a problem. Ie looking but not seeing, its the same for trains, the Mac truck or instruments. I accept and like that we are at the simple end of aviation but where appropriate we can improve without destroying our pastime
  4. Moy71, Don't worry too much. Most of the Math is repeatative and come with practice. Even if you can't handle Navs there are a lot who only ever fly locally for pleasure.
  5. Peter, I know the person who started my KR2 used this system to make his own. Building your own Vacuum pump
  6. A question for the instructor Types. What is RAA and individual Instructors doing to prepare for when / if the new endorsements come in. How will we know in the short, medium and long term if an instructor is trained and more importantly competent to teach the newskills?
  7. OME, I beg to disagree. pretty much every workplace I've been in has the non experts decreasing their costs. All the things mentioned such as de cowling and access panels are capable of any person who has a licence to fly. If they can't do this then I would suggest they are not capable of looking after their aircraft on a daily inspection. I for one love to watch others work (I could do it all day);), and in the end I learn what to lookk for next time. In my business I find if I am completely open and available to customers they trust me more and send more work to me. regards Chris
  8. John, Welcome. We love trip report especially the ones with overcoming adversity. Go for your life.
  9. 71%. I'm not sure exactly if you got either 100% or 50% what type of personality you have. I think most in this forum woul be thoughtful risk takers. ie they evaluate risk and manage it.
  10. Ian you would love : I'm My Own Grandpa - Video
  11. Welcome Paul, I assume you are the same person with the well thought out replys on the langford KR-List. I still have my boat stage in storage for yet another year but watch the list and Darren Cromptons Site on a weekly basis. Good to see you here.
  12. Nev, I would have to disagree. Any career has an element of risk. If you started in IT in 1998 it would have been a totaly different outlook to 2001. having said that the wages are still good (Above average) now in 2008. As in all employment you need to be able to move around to really get the big bucks. A degree in IT takes money and time just as one in Aviation does.
  13. I've watched the Moller projects for years. A lot of the above statements are taken from multiple projects. The "Car" available next year is a ground effects craft more like a saucer than anything. Be carefull with forward looking statements and safe harbour statements as he has been in trouble in the past, but if you want a good read on a possible future read his white papers. If what he dreams of comes true then flying would be mainstream. Try http://www.moller.com/files/White_Paper.pdf
  14. My Father Worked with A guy called Jackson and here are his rules: 1. You can't Win. 2. You cant break even. 3. You can't quit. I find if I start with this in mind I am never disappointed:devil:
  15. Just remember with 12 inches you actually have a foot.
  16. Congratulations, it is a great feeling and acheivment. I did mine at a local non towered airport and the radio call from the flight school (It was in the 80's) made my day. hey Ian you should get a medal to show under the usernames for thoose in the club:wasnt me:
  17. Ian, having just started a new role I concur with finding time to do anything. But given I had suggested the exclude of news a while ago and you did it without issue all i can say is
  18. Maybe "The never ending story" could use it to trump Ian and his moderators:wasnt me:Oh yeah sorry for hijacking the thread.
  19. Matt, Actually it's a skill I have never learnt (even after 25 years in computing). I don't feel too bad as I normally compose an answer to everyones question to tweak my head. (Hardly ever post as I get it wrong too often) $$$$ have stopped me again from flying so its good to try to remember.
  20. Yes most definitely, I was made to fly rudder only for a whole lesson as I was relying on ailerons too much. As you say less comfortable but a valuable lesson. I’m sure that I would not like it in cross wind. Arggg beat again
  21. Cralis, actually in a 3 axis plane roll (Aileron) will eventually follow Yaw (Rudder). The instructor types will enlarge on this as I am rusty but Yaw is a secondary effect of roll and visa versa In some planes it just takes longer due to design considerations . See I told you. I was beat again
  22. OK so if 60 knots is 111 kph was that motor home flying? . We tend to forget that even at 40knots we are doing better than the average car, if more detinations had landing areas flying would be much more efficient.
  23. Tomo - .-. -.-- / - .... .. ... http://morsecode.scphillips.com/jtranslator.html
  24. What does a girl with one leg shorter than the other call her self? Ileen.
  25. The legless deer reminded me!! What do you call a man with no arms no legs in a swinning pool? Bob What do you call a man with no arms no legs in leaves? Russel. What do you call a man Stuck under a car? Jack. What do you call a man with no arms no legs on your door step? Matt. What do you call a man with a shovel in his head? Doug. What do you call a man without a shovel in his head? Dougless.
