    A year ago I noticed an error in the wiring diagram for the Jabiru aircraft. Page 269 in JTM001-9. For those who understand wiring diagrams, look at item 16, a relay, and trace its supply back to the battery. You will notice the relay is permanently energized. I asked Jabiru to confirm this was an error, which they have done, but it seems the drawing has still not been updated. I noted the error back in JTM001-7. The attached image shows you what I am on about. Considering there have been three 'unexplained' fires in Jabiru aircraft, it leaves one a little anxious.

    Adelaide Soaring Club gets 1000 hours out of their Jabs and they are used for training. They stick to the book when it comes to maintenance. Too many pilot/owners do not and then cry when their plane breaks.

    We had a Jabiru J170D at my flying club catch fire and burn to nothing while sitting in a hangar. Was 24 hours or so after its last flight. No explanation as far as I know.

    Jeeeez, that's bad. I do my services regularly and always have another to help with the 100 hourly. And, my log books are filled in as required. It does however seem crazy to go through the entire process for such few hours flown.

    Imagine you have done the 100 hourly on your plane. Then you only fly 8 hours before the yearly comes around. I wonder how many folks would go through the same work again considering so few hours have been flown.

    I have seen on quite a few occasions where folks put the cowling down so that it may get scratched (see photo), that is, they turn it upside down. Why?

    Bruce, I used ultra-sonic sensor and Arduino to measure the level of water in a bucket with a view to developing a fuel gauge. It works well, let me know if you want to develop the thing further. I still have your Arduino stuff here, keep forgetting to bring it to the club.

    A lot of the stuff is taken down by software, that is, people are not even involved. It's the application of programs that are continually 'learning' until eventually it can 'censor' without fault. The day will come when 'AI' decides you are a bad person and sends a robot around to eliminate you. Hope you aren't a twin!

    So, was the mate an instructor taking the poor fellow through an 'endorsement' on the bigger aircraft? This is the sort of thing that damages our sport badly.

    Dumb question perhaps but why do you need rudder trim in a twin engine aircraft?

    People can go totally irrational when facing certain death. I've heard some very bizarre 'mayday calls', one where the pilot just kept screaming "help help help" without ever releasing the button.

    You want to visit Australia, better be quick, we're selling it fast. Also, everything is upside down this side of the equator so flying will be a little different at first. Your landing in those conditions was pretty good in my books. I would be choking the stick to death and wildly thrashing it about, a habit I cannot lose when in turbulence.

    This app will only work if the phone or tablet has a GPS chip installed. It won't be using the phone network or WI-FI for location services so it could be used anywhere.

    My app will not use a map. Doesn't need one. The user just loads in the way-points and follows the track. Ken, I applied for a 'key' that allows me to use Google maps on Android. The key unlocks the API (code) that programmers access to use the maps. Downunder, this app has a black display as does mine. Looking carefully you can see 'something' other than a black screen. As I said, it's just something to keep the grey cells alive and improve my programming skill.

    To keep my brain working, I'm currently developing a simple navigation application that will run on Android phones and tablets with GPS capabilities. The display is similar to what you might find in commercial aircraft. Your current location is in the centre and the pre-loaded waypoints and track are displayed. In the example image, you would turn right to take up the track to YGAW. I'm curious as to what sort of interest there is in such an application considering there is Oz-Runways and cheap car GPS units that provide good navigation data. My app would be free! The current development is on my Windows 10 computer using Visual Studio for those that care...

    Where did you hear that? I heard he lost height due to partial engine failure, hit some wires on final to zero-three left and ended up on his back in a paddock. Also, the radio traffic seems to support that.
