  1. 'Hijack' all you like Soul Brother. . .all good grist. . . .
  2. Gnats were used in earlier times by the Red Arrows team. I recall seeing them a couple of times at RAF Cosford, and once they did a display on the seafront at Llandudno in North Wales. . . I have NOT spoken to any pilot who flew them so can't comment upon their flyability rating . . . Two of them collided head on during practice though. . . very sad. . . .
  3. Noooooooo !. . . this is how GOOD threads are created from a poor one mate ! I AM annoyed about the thought of 'Hot and Dreary' though. . .it's currently Negative1.2 Deg. C here. . . .
  4. Nice Story Oscar. . .if true it would be a wonderful tale. . . .as you say,. . . possibly Legend. . . A friend of mine, a Flight Lieutenant now long retired from the RAF, mentioned a 'Flameout' incident in his lightning over the North Sea many years ago. Again, flying from an RAF station in Scotland. . . Notwithstanding all his efforts, he could not restart either engine, and the reason he was retired from flying duties was that two of his vertebrae were irreparably damaged during the ejection and he finally retired as he was completely fed up with shuffling papers around his flying desk. . . . .You can ground the Pilot,. . but you can never take the Pilot out of the man.
  5. Lightnings of 19, 111, 56 and 92 Squadrons in formation. A little Air to Air sustenance from a friendly Victor tanker. . . I read a book written by a serving Lightning pilot, based at an RAF station near to Aberdeen. on the East coast of Scotland. ( Obviously AFTER he had left the service ! ) Their main job was the interception of curious Russian 'Bear' aircraft which were prodding the UK defences. This was often a daily occurrence in all weathers. He mentioned that it was all done 'Politely' and although there was never any radio comms between them, that they regularly exchanged photography and it was all friendly 'Thumbs up' stuff. . .Bit of a game really. . . He said that when the tanks were almost full, and the alpha increased to a certain level, in order to keep station with the tanker,. . .if he happened to push the throttle through the gate from Mil speed to Reheat,. . .the fuel would be burned faster than the tanker pump could deliver it. . . .( Or something like that. . .I read the book 20 years ago ! )
  6. A flying instructor I know calls images like this 'A Dartboard over England' Maybe not a good day for first Solo flights ? ? ?
  7. HEY. . .. why should there be ? ? ? ? that would have been an incident amongst thousands. . . . I never recorded in my logbook ( The Nasty bits ) the time I approached Merimbula one day,. .and got no response on the radio,. . .( as you do |) \i overflew the place and decided to land on Rwy 21 Left. . . only because the Sydney surface wind was forecast as 'Southerly@ 12 Kts' . Imagine my shock and awe,. . .to be presented with a Fukker Friendship machine 'HEAD ON' which had landed downwind on Rwy Zero Three. . . If you know Merimbula, you will know that it has a bit f a 'Bump in the middle. . .I never saw that airliner approaching. NO RADIO CALL THAT I EVER HEARD ANYHOW. . .. it was not funny. I had a 'Discussion with the Captain of said aircraft afterwards and he said that . . .'Private Light Aircraft in this country are the BANE OF OUR LIVES, , ,YOU THINK YOU OWN THE SKY AND ignore all of the satety rules. . . ' ( ? ) This was the closest I had ever come to punching a fully uniformed airline Pilot in the face. That man was,. . .( In my view ) a fecking Twot.
  8. My mate Paul, who is the executive vice president of Aveo Electronics UK,. . .has been supplying LED lighting for commercial and Airline aircraft manufacturers for over 12 years. These were mainly Wingtip and landing lights. Next Wednesday at the 'Flyers Arms' curry club, I'll ask him about strobes. He had some examples on display at an aviation trade show in Birmingham four years ago. . .they were incredibly bright, but his company are not particularly interested in the small LSA aircraft market. . .mainly big stuff. . . .The make most of their kit in Czechoslovakia, although he has said that after Brexit, the company are moving their manufacturing to the UK. . .. Since it is American owned, and he says that the board don't trust the EU on corporate taxes etc. . .( another story )
  9. Watched that all the way thru Marty. . .Thank you. Never seen it ( All of it ) before. That man seems to seamlessly combine his achievements without ever appearing to be 'Bragging' outside of the Cameradierie and Banter between other USAF fliers of course !. . . His sense of pathos and humour warms the cockles. . ..Excellent story. Wifey asked me recently what I'd like for Christmas ( Apart from the usual Hai Karate / Lynx deodorant, body moisturiser and aftershave,. . .plus numerous packs of too bloody tight socks plus loads of undercrackers. . . . ) I will NOW tell her that I would like a copy of Brian's book. . .( can't wait for her reaction when she discovers that it's cost is circa US$500. . . Tee Hee. . .)
  10. Glad that's over,. . . .less wind over the weekend I hope. . . Darned Scary today that was. . . . .Only for the very brave. . .( Stupid ? )

  13. Looks well that their own Auditors have refused to sign off the accounts for 19 years. . . ANYWAY GUYS. . .THIS THREAD IS ABOUT THE ICON A5. Not bloody EU politics.
  14. Hey no probs Kaz. . . I think that what these ladies did in WW2 was amazing. I realise tht there are lot more personal stories out there somewhere. . .we get the occasional TV prog with actual interviews with the Ladies themselves. . .some of the tales are hilarious, like the one where a tiny slip of a Lady delivered a Wellington Bomber to a squadron and the Adjutant searched the aircraft for the REAL pilot ! ! If I come cross any more I'll post them up.
  15. Joy Lofthouse – ATA Pilot and Honorary Life member of the RAF Association passes away age 94 - RAF Association Here is a bit of history on one of Joy's contemporaries in the all Women A.T.A. With some detailed history of what she flew. Mary Wilkins Ellis. https://solentaviatrix.word...
  16. 'Fraid not Mate. The term 'Brexit' had not been invented six years ago so there was no mention of it in the newspapers then. And you are right of course, Who would want to leave a totally corrupt sinking ship which accounts for a whopping 12 percent of World trade. . .. That would be just Silly. . .
  17. Agree entirely Alf. . . . I just hope that whosoever hangs onto MY trouser belt whilst I'm hanging out of the door of an aircraft in flight, messing around with bloody recalcitrant undercarriage,. . . .has arm muscles like Arnold Schwartzenegger or BETTER !. . .
  18. DON'T BE DAFT. . . I read a report of a person stuck in quicksand near to Mont Saint Michel, France. Several people (estimated at around seven, due to the social media movies . . ) just stood there and filmed the person in difficulty with their mobile phones and NOT ONE OF THEM rang and alerted the rescue services.. . . This happened around six years back by the way. .. still horrendous. . . the victim drowned.
  19. The retractable undercarriage system on some Cessna types can be problematical. David Squirrel told me a story about a C-210 in the 1970s, which had a partial gear failure. There were three persons on board, and one bloke held on to the trouser belt of another bloke, who leaned out of the door and physically pushed on the gear leg on one side, as it had cycled to half down, and then stopped. Rell 'Boy's Own Story' that was. . . Apparently this worked. I'd LOVE to find out where this was, as I can't remember. . . I used to fly a C-210 regularly out of Casey AIrfield in Berwick, Vic. . . .and never had a problem with VH-IWK ( it's nickname was. . .'It Will Kill' ) But it DIDN'T . . .not when I was around anyhow. Lovely aeroplane. . . Since that time, whilst flying in the UK, I have had a couple of U/C probs, All of which initiially caused dampness in me Kimbies. . . but they all resolved themselves in the end, without recourse to a 'Belly Scrape / Prop Strike' landing event.. . .Two twins, and one PA28-R200 Arrow 3, the last one with a 'Reluctant' nosewheel. . . . .
  20. I agree entirely Sir. By contrast, my lovely Cousin Patricia from Michigan has a beautiful speaking voice ( Possibly her training as a Singer may have helped. .) Steady, measured and not nasal at all. I don't understand why so many American media Ladies sound that way. . .Odd isn't it. I wonder if this malady extends to the non - media involved female population whom we don't get to hear. . .( Rhet )
  21. An interesting short vidclip, starring the Gorgeous Amy Shira Teitel. . .explaining this term, when referring to directional control of a space vehicle.
  22. 43 minutes runtime. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMkYzO0_By0
  23. Remembrance Day: WWI photos are colourised for anniversary | Daily Mail Online
  24. Er, not a Hurricane in the picture above. . . as it has the prototype 'Battle's Ident number under the stbd wing, L4935 . . .( I didn't read all the sub-links in that story, got interrupted by the Boss Lady. . ! )
