  3. Sorry for the confusion , only hold a Raa , had a bit of time to waste so dropped into the local strip and the way it was explained it all seemed pretty easy but you are probably right , may only apply to GA
  4. I knew about the endorsement but there was no mention about any exams it was more about being competent , navs , W&B, a bit of instrument training, but I may have missed something
  5. I guess this question has been asked before , anyway thinking of converting over to the rpl would that allow me to fly in controlled in a 24 rego providing I fit a transponder and does it require a certified radio and altimeter also does it require 100 hour services if so I probably won't go ahead
  6. I once had the fuel drain from one tank across to the other then out the breather on the cap because I parked it on the side of a hill I just landed on,drained the whole tank, wasn't on much of a lean either this was on a Savannah , but still warey of leaving the taps off
  7. We had it happen on a savannah and it ran back into the air box
  8. So does the diesel somehow get past the rings not being burnt during combustion
  9. There is a bigger opening underneath but reckon the heat would have to build up under the top part of the cowl with the heat rising Greg
  10. The oil cooler is fully exposed but I reckon there is a lot of heat build up inside the cowl ,hard to start after shutdown on a hot day which I think is fuel vapourering from the carbs . These aircraft come out of Europe and maybe don't suit our hot weather , the cowl only has a 15mm by 100mm vent at the back just in front of the screen Greg
  11. Oil cooler is fully open but I do block it when it's winter
  12. On climb out I have high oil temps on my 914 when the air temp is in the 30's , wondering if it would help if I enlarged the small vent on top of my cowl to let some of the heat escape , head temps seem OK but the oil is climbing out of the green also the pressure drops back , once up to high altitude and levels off in the cold air it improves slowly Greg
  13. no , no, I like the cold, so no
  14. Hi Kas If you decide to go to tas and looking for another plane to tag along , let me know, been to Devonport via King island ,also flown into Flinders for some fishing they were great trips. I am 10 mins from Shep so we should catch up Greg
  15. don't they have to be TSO'd
  16. Was helping a mechanic mate collect oil samples out of a articulated dump truck recently which were sent onto Caterpillar for analysis, wondering whether it would be prudent to do the same with my 914 ,which now has over 1300hrs, even though it has no mechanical issues.
  17. I could be wrong but I reckon the jet that does joy flights in Echuca had ejection seats, I think I overheard the pilots briefing passengers on procedures in case of emergencies
  18. I raced in the milledge series long time ago some of the riders I remember were Chapman bros , Norm Watts, Phil Lovett , all guns , way out of my league. We were just average clubman riders , looking back I reckon they were our best years. Flying is pretty good too , I noticed a lot of flyers were ex riders, must be in the blood.
  19. Hi Mat They hold 20ltrs , easy to fill and use , youngest races desert bikes , I'd never seen them also, once used I had to have one, they are square in shape and empty out also have a big filler. I will try another picture
  20. These quick fill containers are also real handy ,just upend it , don't spill a drop and stops running when your tank is nearly full , cost $70 at motorcycle shops
  21. We use 12 volt pumps only for diesel on farm , pretty sure you can't pump petrol with them, one stray spark and you may be trying out your insurance , we have a underground 1000 liter tank for petrol that we charge with compressed air, not sure whether it introduces moisture in the tank so have a water trap type glass filter in the line , seems to work OK , been using it for about 4 years
  22. Sorry andy, can't remember will take note next time
  23. I can slow it down and it rocks the wings slower ,to much gain and we are out of control, tried every setting, every flight seems different , sometimes it disconnects and slowly banks to the left have to turn it off and start again. I need to take a experienced pilot for a spin for another opinion, unsure what to do next. soon as I get a chance I will switch off the 296 and hope that makes a difference. Thanks for all the help
