  1. Trying to track down fellow Sabre owners , can anyone help? Greg
  2. My 914 is fitted with a intercooler that has air directed through it via a scoop on the cowl , thanks to the previous owner, I always wondered what the air box temps were so I fitted a temp gauge off a engel fridge . the temps rarely go above ambient so if the intake charge is that low maybe I can run unleaded if detonation is a product of high intake temps
  3. Drained all the fuel out and replaced with new from the servo , all fixed, how easy was that, goes to show pulp doesn't keep for long
  4. Having trouble with the 914 engine in my plane , on take off when the engine is in boost ,it starts to falter. Could it be the fuel a bit stale as the last time it ran OK but that was about 6 weeks ago The fuel is stored in a tank under ground and could be 12 weeks old and it runs OK in all the other engines on the farm Nothing else has changed since it ran 6 weeks ago and now its playing up ,can premium UL degrade it that time
  5. Just received this , can anyone tell me what the hell this means. CASA-153_14-Permission-to-occupy-seat-fitted-with-dual-controls.pdf CASA-153_14-Permission-to-occupy-seat-fitted-with-dual-controls.pdf CASA-153_14-Permission-to-occupy-seat-fitted-with-dual-controls.pdf
  6. So do you know of anyone that's been fined? I am happy to play by the rules and it would not be so bad if I was checked occasionally but I never have and it really seems like a waste of money and effort, although, trust my luck, I feel I will be the one they make an example of next time I try to pass through the airside gate
  7. So all I have to do is keep away from Merimbula to avoid the water boarding,
  8. About to renew my ASIC for the third time , unsure whether to throw away another $200 as I have never been asked for it even though I have flown into quite a few RPT airfields such as Port Macquarie, Dubbo, Devonport, Mildura, Broken Hill etc, Just wondering if any members have similar stories and which airports are doing the checks. What's the worst thing that can happen if you don't have one? Greg
  9. Thanks I will print these posts off for reference, have you done these trips in the past?
  10. Great advice I was thinking of crossing Spencer gulf after Goolwa and then following the coast around to the Nullarbor Roadhouse just for the scenery but things may change I am still a couple of weeks away before I set off
  11. Hi Andy I thought the king island track would apply elsewhere, I have flown it once , but you are right if I had a choice I would rather crash in the desert than become shark bait Greg
  12. I am pretty sure we are allowed to cross direct to Tassie now via King Island which was brought in the same time we could climb to 10,000ft so I think the water crossing is OK but I could be wrong, although Ricks track does look safer Greg
  13. Hi Rick Looks good but I would have gone Goolwa then direct to Nullarbor but you are right it would be a bit longer Greg
  14. Got OZ runways so I print the relevant pages off the WAC looking at google earth there doesn't appear to be much difference between Renmark and Goolwa , Murry Bridge is pretty close to the track but puts me over Adelaide CTR Greg
  15. That's all very good info , thanks Rick I was thinking first stop Goolwa for fuel then Ceduna ,even though stuck with avgas, overnight at the Nullarbor roadhouse , got a low wing so I can't fit between gate posts I do have a fold up jerry haven't figured out how to use it without lots of spilt fuel , next best bet sounds like Cocklebiddy or Balladonia I have a range of about 400 nm no wind plus a bit of reserve, does this plan sound OK Greg
  16. Thanks for all the help I thought there was a roadhouse on the way I could drag my plane to the bowsers for fuel or close enough to ferry using jerry's Thanks beefy I may take you up on that offer
  17. Just looked at Eucla strip can you taxi to the roadhouse for fuel ?
  18. Thanks Phil .That info should get me there and back
  19. Once I get there and hire a car I will stay a couple of days just checking out local engineering businesses connected with farming but I need to stop for the night on the way over Plane is dragged along with a 914 with a intercooler fitted so it will run on just about anything although it doesn't like avgas sometimes Greg
  20. Thanks for all the help, Murrayfield looks like the best bet Where would be the best place to stop for the night I can't make it in one day . Greg
  21.
