  1. Greetings to you also and !........I started flying Ultralights back in the mid-eighties, flown numerous different types over the years and wouldn`t swap the Drifter for any other! What`s Happening??? Frank.
  2. Tim, I should have added, Goodonye to the rest of the team!!!
  3. Goodonya Tim!!!
  4. Sound Logic, no doubt! Frank.
  5. Yeah! Say hello for me also! Bill came to me for his AUF pilot certificate, to add to his GA instructor qualifications, back when I was instructing! he later bought a Drifter and did some instructing with it after I retired and as far as I know, he sold the Drifter a few years ago and now instructs with the club`s Jabiru! he`s a top guy!...If you`re on facebook, you`ll find him there! Frank.
  6. Do you know Bill Gronbeck? Bill is an instructor up there! Frank.
  7. Hello Nighthawk! .........I see you`re up at Atherton! I did a lot of flying on the Atherton Tablelands, from Pioneer Valley, back in the days of the AUF and the Far North Queensland Ultralight Association ( F.N.Q.U.A. )...Any time you`re down on the coast you`re welcome to come in and say hello. Frank. Ps, I got my first chance to taxi an Ultralight in Jack`s Stuart`s Jackaroo up on Jim Sabin`s strip at Malone road, Emerald creek! Back then Jim owned and flew a Cessna 152 from his property...Just wondering if you go back that far.
  8. Is there anyone out there using Ripstop Nylon Fabric for the skins on their rag and tube Ultralight? I`m seriously thinking of using Ripstop for my next set of skins on the Drifter. Ripstop Fabric - Fabric.com Frank.
  9. Thanks dj! That`s basically how I rembered it! Had quite a few club fly-ins here on our property back in the days of the AUF! Frank.
  10. Doesn`t a fly-in become an airshow when the public is invited to attend? Frank.
  11. Example!
  12. .....Gees Bex! why did I know that was coming ?... You havn`t lost it yet! Frank.
  13. Yes! I understand that and thank you for your reply! QUOTE="old man emu, post: 669249, member: 282"]Yes it was, but the testimony suggests that the employees were not trained or competent in its use. This could have been a factor in the failure to respond, along with the emotional disruption caused by seeing the event unfold. Yes! I understand that also! but the fact that an employee had to activate an emergency device to stop the ride suggests to me that the ride wasn`t fitted with a safety device to automatically stop it without the need of the operator, therefore, the design of the ride contributed to the accident also. Frank.
  14. A trainee may well have understood the training and demonstrated at the time of the training that they were competent in performing the task they were trained to do, however, in a real-life emergency situation where seconds can determine the outcome, for various reasons the trainee might not respond in the manner they were trained to respond! We see it so often in Air Crash Investigations. Off topic...Why wasn`t the ride at Dreamworld designed with a safety device/s that would automatically shut the ride down? Frank.
  15. G`Day Bill, The camera is a FujiFilm FinePix 120...I`ve taken the outside lens off it! With the flash on, I get that dark effect on the land...I`ve never tried to add music but I`m now going to work on it. Yep! For me, it`s what it`s always been about and will continue to be, I have no time for the fun police! Frank, Ps, No editing of the photos, straight from the camera!
  16. Another one I took on yesterday afternoons` flight.
  17. Thank you!... I`m on my 6th Rotax, 4, 582 grey head and the second 503! I`m currently running a 503 DCDI with the Etype box, turning a 60 inch Ivo ground adjustable prop...I`m thinking ahead to when I`ll need to replace my 503 and the Hirth 3202 certainly looks appealing...Cheers
  18. :whisper:I`ll cover your ass if you cover mine! oh, by the way, Who`s C.A.S.A.? Frank.
  19. Hi Dick, ....I`ve just had a look at the range of Hirth engines, which one are you using, please? Frank.
  20. Cali, Over the years, I`ve flown numerous 3 axis Ultralights but I`ve only been a passenger on a couple of flights, in Trikes`, microlights` if you prefer. Frank
  21. I love it!!! ...I was there and watched a few times also, !!! Remember? Frank.
  22. Flying the Drifter at sunset this afternoon. Frank.
  23. Absolutely terrible! keep in mind though! these days bystanders are encouraged to do nothing in case they harm themselves or the person they are trying help. This accident has just reminded me of a guy who was an AUF instructor, in his Drifter, back when I was instructing, as I recall it, he purchased a G.A aircraft and crashed it on take-off, on his first flight! he was fatally injured. Frank.
  24. Yep! I know all the beaches I`ve landed on over the years and a change of the tides and wind can change the surface of the beach in a couple of days! a good sharp eye and a knowledge of what is a suitable landing area and what is not is definitely required. If not all, most of the beaches in North Queensland are not much more than a wingspan wide and sloping down to the water, add a stiff onshore wind and it becomes a challenge, even to the experienced pilot. I`ll dare say most people start to lose their sharpness as they age, I try to maintain mine by flying regularly! I did more stupid things in the early days of my flying than I do now! I was able to learn from them, to give me the knowledge I have today. Callahan, thank you for your input! Frank.
  25. Not trying to tell anyone how to do it, just how I have always preferred to do it!....I`m now 70.5 years old and have done many beach landings in my 30 + years of flying Ultralights! I`ve only had a couple of rides as a passenger in Trikes, though. I would never land on soft sand! The landing may go well but you may not be able to get airborne again. After determining my landing spot, I would only come in on final, with a glide approach, then sideslip off excess height. Frank.
