  1. To me, your comment has no meaning and is of no value to anyone!....What is " anything you fly?" Frank.
  2. 1 dead, 1 injured following a powered parachute crash in Farragut
  3. Goodonya Tim! You`re a champion!........I had my very first flight in an Ultralight aircraft, as a passenger, in that aircraft, when it had two seats and was powered by a Fuji Robin 440 engine! It`s the one I copied from to build my own, difference being, I made several modifications to mine and left the whole fuselage uncovered, also, the fabric was yellow. Frank.

    Drifter Heaven

That`s it Kev! Keep the spotlight on the Drifter.....Onya Frank.
  5. Cyclone Yasi......Storm Surge........Bruce Highway........Main street of Cardwell
  6. Storm surge is an abnormal rise of water generated by a storm, over and above the predicted astronomical tide...It’s the change in the water level that is due to the presence of the storm...Since storm surge is a difference between water levels, it does not have a reference level. Storm tide is the water level rise during a storm due to the combination of storm surge and the astronomical tide...Since storm tide is the combination of surge and tide, it does require a reference level...A 15 ft. storm surge on top of a high tide that is 2 ft. above mean sea level produces a 17 ft. storm tide. Frank.
  7. Man attempts to fly with zero flight experience, immediat...
  8. This is what happened to the boats left in the Port Hinchinbrook Marina at Cardwell, when Cyclone Yasi hit the area back in February 2011 Boats that had been taken up some of the mangrove tributaries of the Hinchinbrook Channel, survived...In the Cairns port, boats that size are taken up the Cairns inlet, as far as possible, among the mangroves. There have been several similar size boats moored in the Mulgrave river, here at Deeral for many years! When ever flooding or a Cyclone is expected, the boats are taken up into a mangrove creeks which runs in where the Mulgrave and the Russell rivers meet, these boats have never sustained any damage, either from flooding or Cyclones. Frank.
  9. Wow! Some achievement! Thanks for posting....Congratulations to Michael Smith. Frank.
  10. My apology Richard....I should have realised that....Cheers.
  11. Richard, How many do you want to know about?...........Seriously though,I`ve walked away from everyone because I always had somewhere to land and my complete focus has always been on landing safely. I`ve been advocating, flying within gliding distance of a suitable landing area, for more than thirty years, yet to some pilots, this doesn`t seem to be a priority. No matter how well you Aviate, Navigate and communicate, if there`s nowhere to land safely, chances are you won`t and someone else will be picking up the pieces. Frank.
  12. Thank you for your concern Pete....Not much wind here so no damage ...I was up there in the Drifter, playing in the Northerly wind, while those poor people, further south, were being battered. Everyone keep in mind, the official end to the Queensland Cyclone season is the end of April. Frank.
  13. E-News Issue 31 29 March 2017 Big changes are coming for ASICs From 1 August 2017 the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development will be implementing major changes to all ASIC issuing bodies and applicants. The major changes are: all applicants will need to present in person to an issuing body (or the issuing body's agent) to verify their identity with original documentation. new categories of identification documents are being introduced and will replace the current identification document check. What do these changes mean to you? These changes will mean members will be required to go and see an RAAus CFI who is acting as an agent on behalf of RAAus to verify their documentation, members will ONLY be able to use CFIs to verify their identification. Shortly, we will be asking for expressions of interest from CFIs to become an agent on behalf of RAAus as an issuing body for the issuance of ASICs. These changes will be in place from 1 August so from now until then we will be communicating with you regularly with updates as we receive them. For more information on the changes, please visit the Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development's website.
  14. Bob,This time, thankfully, no!....I`ve been through 5 Cyclones, my first was at 9 years of age....Our Cyclone season doesn`t officially end until the end of April so there`s still the possibility I may have to add another one...The yellow pins inside the blue line is our property so we get knocked around a bit when a Cyclone hits the area.
  15. Sorry Mark, I should have explained myself better, I meant boats! My reply was to Litespeed and he was talking about boats. Frank.
  16. G`Day Remerson ........I`ve been a recreational pilot, since the early days of the Australian Ultralight Federation ( AUF) now Recreational Aviation Australia (RA-Aus). What is it you want at a recreational level? Frank.
  17. A couple of days ago,Cyclone Debbie was expected to come onto the Queensland coast, around the Cairns area.....The only accurate prediction of an impending Cyclone is that they are unpredictable and can change direction at any time...In this case, which direction would have been the right way to go? Frank
  18. Bob, I`m not sure what type it is. Take a look here. Far North Archives - What Snake Is That
  19. Preparations need to be made well in advance and everyone needs to have a safe shelter before it gets bad enough,by the time it`s getting bad enough, it can be far too late and extremely dangerous, to do much of anything.
  20. Yeah, Bob! for this one!....Official end of the Cyclone season for Queensland is the end of April....From memory, I`ve been through 5 Cyclones! I don`t get too carried away with what might happen, there`s only so much anyone can do...Take it as it comes and pick up the pieces after it`s gone...For the Cairns area, we`ve been warned to expect, up to 90 klm wind...It`s so still at the moment, I couldn`t fly a Kite. It`s anything but funny, but it`s the best chance of surviving for a lot of boats... Frank.
  21. Like this one?.....Nothing to be afraid of!... ... ......I took this photo on a hike,on Russell Island, 9 days ago...My mate John, almost stepped on it. Frank.
  22. Today we put to rest of a great guy who`s life was tragically ended too short!...We won`t forget you! R.I.P. Frank.
