  2. Lucky you didn't swallow it too slowly Doug as you might have had a stiff neck as well Brian
  3. well done Evan Brian and Linda
  4. Hi John, We haven't met but reading your posts about jabs it is great to see someone who is constructive in what they say and does not bag a product through its shortfalls, I also own a jab and are currently building a 6 cyl motor to put into a 160 that we own. Great work John Brian

  6. Sounds like you need to get a full set of proper spanners Maj you can't condemn something if you can't fix it properly Brian
  7. Chris, I have found that by turning on the mags when the engine is spinning helps, as the inertia from the prop is not being pushed back by the engine timing as it is trying to fire at 25 degrees before TDC,it seems to allow the engine to achieve the required rpm easier to give you a better spark for the initial start. You still need to have a good battery and starting system as nothing can help if they are not in good condition. Brian
  8. If you have a jab that is a bit difficult to start in cold weather I have found that if you spin the engine with the starter and then turn on the mags it helps Brian
  9. Bundaberg....
  10. Rod, If you come on today, we will be up at the airport. It is 13.15 now. Linda
  11. Hi Rod! Sorry you couldn't make it out there tonight. We are often out at the airport, tomorrow we are off for a bit to Maryborough then back home. Saturday at this stage if it's nice, we are off again somewhere. About 3 ish tomorrow we will be off, then back before dark (of course!) Saturday, whatever takes our fancy. Ours is the green hangar on the Northern boundry of the airport, just go past the flying school and keep to the outside road, you will see it. Are you after hangarage rates? Everybody seems to pay about $50 roughly a week, for rent. -Linda
  12. Rod. We will actually be up at the airport tomorrow (Thursday) night about 5.30-6.00pm. Brian is doing some work up there, so if you want to come up and say Hi! we will be around. -Linda
  13. Chris, Glad to hear that you got back home safe. Hope to see you again soon, and you are welcome back anytime. Linda and Brian.
  14. Hi Rod! You need to come up and visit and have a cuppa, and let us show you our awesome airport and have a tour. You fly a gazelle I gather atm? Is that the yellow one up at Ballarat? Need to get you into a Jab....:)
  15. Rod. There may be a couple of hangars looking for tenants in Bacchus Marsh. Let me know if I can help. -Linda
  16. Hi Burbles 1 and Relfy, We usually use brake cleaner on our jabiru underneath when it gets a bit oily or dirty, we dont use carby clean or heavy degreasers as they can strip paint and Relfys question about polish you should not use anything with silicone in it as if you have to do a repair at a later time the area affected by the silicone will be harder to repair and paint Brian
  17. Maryborough is having a flyin next Sunday 14th of November. All are welcome. Aero Club Information -Linda *edit note: fixed.
  18. The best way we have found to stop birds in the hangar is to distribute moth balls around the hangar up in the rafters and where the birds get in around the doors it seems to work To Boleropilot there is a firm called Pumpkin head that makes all kinds of covers for all kinds of planes they are located at Yarrawonga airport and do a very nice job. Brian
  19. You might have given the clue with the carby choke, if that is the case then No4 is running lean. Brian
  20. How do the new diesels go for vibration and how does the fuel go at low temps without waxing and not flowing at or below zero degrees? Brian
  21. Hi Roger, I have a few people that I am trying to convince to come across from GA to RA and they seem interested in the Jabirus in general, but I think we should just advertise it and see what happens. All the best Brian
  22. Hi Danny, Yes we do have a MRX pcas and have found it to be good generally, it can give some wierd information on the ground but I think it is more of the fact that there is interference reflecting from the ground as once you are airborn it settles down and is more believable, with the shutting down problem we had the same as it chews through batteries fairly fast and we started using lithium batteries to get some life out of it, but now we have it permanently mounted in the dash and have the power hard wired to the aircraft electrics and it is generally not a problem now. I am still happy with the unit from when we bought it about a year or so ago and if I had to buy another one I probably would as it does work 99% of the time reasonably accurate, we have had it tell us there were aircraft near us and we couldn't see them but who is to say they were there or not and we just didn't see them. Hope this helps Brian
  23. Hi Mathew, your closest big airfeild would be Stawell, it has 2 runways 18-36 at 854 meters and 11-29 at1403 meters it is not far from Stawell township, you will need WAC chart Hamilton (3469) Hope this helps Brian
  24. The most critical thing to maintain in a jab motor in flight is the EGT and CHT if you hang off the prop and have low air flow through the ducting and high engine temps then you are doomed for a failure, do that with any engine and it will not last. Brian
  25. If you are going to turn pistons around you might want to consider the raised compression ratio in the combustion chamber due to the piston pin offset and the damage that it could cause through detonation damaging pistons, heads and breaking through bolts. Brian
