  1. Might be a little while until Avplan becomes functional on many android tablets. And even if it were working one tablet now, it is still Avplan lite with limited functionality. Nevertheless, I am enjoying using the new tablet - thanks Ian. Have got in some good Angry Birds time, have read emails and more importantly I can read all the threads on this site:cheezy grin:
  2. I flew up from Melbourne this morning and holy c$&p, I have never seen anything like it! The CBD is a mess, lots of damaged cars and even a few buildings. 300 Queen St is now 30 queen St because a 0 fell off. Bet someone has pinched that already. My last visit to Brisbane was the G20 weekend when it was 40 degrees. What's with the weather up here? And I'm moving here in January!
  3. Got an email back from Avsoft today. The issue will be addressed in a future update, but no indication of when.
  4. It is the tablet I purchased from the Clear Prop store.
  5. Thanks Shags, I did see for a couple of apps that I could switch data storage to "phone storage" which is about 12 Gig, instead of the 2 gig internal (I don't yet understand the difference between this "phone storage" and internal storage yet). Still haven't seen an option to save to the external 35 Gig SD card, but I assume that will show up for certain apps that have enabled it.
  6. So, from what has been said in the posts above, it seems it is not the engine, the airframe or the performance/handling characteristics of the Jabiru aircraft that give it such a good safety record. If it is none of those factors, then what is it? Is it because Jabiru aircraft clock a lot of hours in training under the guidance of our excellent RAA instructors? In other words, are a lot of the hours flown in the least risky operational category compared to other aircraft makes?
  7. Perhaps it has less to do with airframe strength and more to do with performance and handling of the aircraft, and that this is what is reflected in the statistics? Are some of the other non-Jabiru aircraft more likely to get me into trouble (i.e. stall/spin) as a low hours pilot?
  8. Before I took up flying, I looked at the statistics on fatal accidents in the different aircraft. One statistic that stood out was that very few Jabiru airframes have been involved in fatal accidents, and also relatively few serious injuries have resulted from crashes or forced landings - their record in this regard is pretty impressive. I understand that CASA is acting due to safety concerns in relation to the engine, but if I can no longer fly solo as a student in a Jabiru airframe, then I will be forced into an airframe in which - according to the statistics - I am more likely to be killed. I know that this is a simplified, big picture view, but I fail to see how forcing me out of a Jabiru would be improving safety for me. Nevertheless, if there are issues with the engines, would be good to see them addressed.
  9. Ok, thanks Ian, will do. If anyone has a more general fix for any apps in the meantime, I would like to know. I have another language app that uses a fair bit of data, so would like to be able to store that on the SD card as well. It would be handy if there was a setting you could change so that all new apps go to the card. Having used apple gear for a long time, I am new to android and I see it is going to take some time to figure it all out
  10. Just got one of the android tablets with a 32 g SD card. Have tried installing Avplan but it tries to store maps on internal storage (1 Gig I think) and soon maxes out. Anyone know how to get Avplan or other apps to store data on the external SD card?
  11. And in Victoria we have Colac, which is pronounced "Cole-ack". But, then also in Vic there is Colac Colac, which is pronounced more like "Clack Clack".
  12. Like the time I visited Lake Cathie. Thought the pronunciation looked straight forward on that one. Nope, stuck out like the tourist that I was.
  13. You can unsubscribe from the list. I did this and no longer receive any emails from Change.org. I think there is also an option to get updates on petitions you have signed.
  14. At Lilydale this morning was told the three J160 trainers have done a combined 15,000 hours with one engine failure. So, I still think the risk of having an engine failure while solo is low. Beat the odds this morning with a couple of solo circuits:cheezy grin:
  15. Hi Sean, I will be coming to see you guys as soon as I can after the move to Brisbane in Jan. In Brisbane this weekend and damn it's hot!

  17. The jab failure rates are not as high as I was expecting in light of comments on this forum.
  18. Looks like a few options to choose from, and visits to at least Caboolture, Archerfield and Boonah are in order. Dazza, I would love to have a go in a 610 Brumby - bit of an extra drive but would be worth it I reckon.
  19. Help, I don't think I am going to understand the locals! I appreciate the comments on the schools. Will be living close to the CBD (inner west/south west) and travel time to Caboolture should be around 50 mins. While Archerfield would be closer, I don't mind the travel time as I have been travelling around 45 min for lessons in Melbourne anyway.
  20. Well, it has taken a year but I am now definitely moving to Brisbane in the new year. Keen to start at a new flying school, however CASA's recent proposals re Jabiru aircraft might ultimately limit my choices. Although, there is a Rotax powered J160 at Caboolture that looks very nice, but could potentially be booked solid by solo students for at least the early part of next year. Or, do I make a switch to another aircraft now?
  21. When I lay down the law to the kids, they say they will check with mum because she is the 'big boss', whereas I am only the 'little boss'. That's pretty much how it goes in our house. To retain flying privileges I have to keep the big boss happy. Regular cuddles would be good also.
  22. I would like to give this a "funny" but my wife might read this... and then I would be in the doghouse
  23. Yes, threats are common and actual actions relatively rare in comparison I would imagine.
  24. Right now I can see the lawyers that specialise in defamation actions punching Jabiru's number into their phone... I'm not a lawyer, but having been threatened with defamation for relatively benign remarks in the past, I am constantly amazed at some of the 'brave' comments I see on this forum. I'm not passing judgment, but just wouldn't go there myself.
  25. By the way, can you tell I love the J160! It's an awesome aircraft to fly (bearing in mind I have only flown a C172 and J160:cheezy grin:)
