    Don't temp me ........ I'd be crazy enough to try....! I was very involved with the 80% DH Mosquito the Terry Kronk had underway when he died. He and Bryce were doing a brilliant job and I was deep into the overhaul of the 770 ranger engine he had planned to use. JimG

    Depending on how some Jab owners feel about operating out of Ycab with Jab engine limitation about to be enforced. There could be some space become available after Jan 31. JimG

    If this is an easily proven fact , then I believe a fair compromise would have been to exempt these engines from the Instrument by means of engine number identification (just like any AD ) . Surely it is within the records of Jabiru engine numbers / sales to easily identify the range of engine number that apply. JimG

    I've done it twice and no issues, I rang them first and had a quick chat about my intentions. I got verbal confirmation that my projects where OK to commence and should be able to be registered. He asked me to send in the 'intention to build form' which I did straight away and in about a week later I received from them a 'builder pack' that had all the required form and some other helpful material for homebuilders. Very helpful and sets out the procedures to registration...., easy . cheers JimG

    Hi dmech, being in the engine re-manufacturing business myself, I am really interested in what steps your have taken to eliminate the resonance problems. I absolutely agree that the bigger bolts will still break in the long term or in the short term shift the problem elsewhere. The flywheel bolt failures are the first red flag for me and I really question the logic in changing from all wood to a composite propeller. JimG

    I'm wondering if it is possible to monitor any migration to RPL. Because there seems to be a push towards the RPL, potential or current RAA members that are a little on the heavy side may look at that as an easier path to their goals. Not really a level playing field now is it .? Sing out if you want to go for some Gliding lessons Geoff , I might tag along and have a go myself.... JimG

    Congratulations Geoff, you've well and truly earned the euphoric feeling you have right now . Flying aeroplanes and dead reckoning navigation are skills that none of us are born with , so they have to be learned from square one. Some people find it easier than others no doubt and the hands of time do play a part in the rate the skills are mastered, but clearly through your passion for flying and the determination and tenacity to work though the tough times you've been able to achieve your life long goal . Power to you , Mate . So go ahead and enjoy this new privilege of airborne freedom to explore our part of the country where you'll find all the regular flyins with new and interesting people to meet.     Unfortunately from what I have read around the place , the Big End roller bearings are the leak link and often fail anywhere after 300 hrs. Rotax recommend a new crank as a part of the major overhaul. Just what I have read..... cheers JimG
