    Gidday Guys, I am planning a flight to Gippsland and Thorpdale is closer to where I need to get to than Latrobe Valley. Does any have any details on the strip..who owns it? Dimensions etc. I cannot seem to find it on google earth either. Any help appreciated. Oops aircraft is a C182 Terry

    Gidday guys, We have a flight of J230's flying to Broken Hill on the 6th of June from Wangaratta ( ok, so it is only 2 aircraft ) for the weekend via Mungo Lodge for lunch. Our problem is that all the car hire places are closed in the afternoon. Is there another way of hiring a vehicle or another company that is not one of the majors that maybe worth a try. I travel there yearly for the races but the other halves have decided that we should take them for the long weekend. The only two items left to tick off is the car hire and the weather. Any help would be greatly appreciated Terry

    Great comments from all. I have about 400 hrs on my 230 and Camel, I think I fly very similar to you. I like to have the revs down to about 2000 by the end of downwind this then gets the speed close to flap speed by the turn onto base. I then drop 1 stage flaps and revs to 1500 to maintain 65 kts . Mid final, full flap and drop revs a little more. I like to keep a bit of power on as it flattens the approach and over the fence at 60 kts and get close to the runway and try not to land--slowly reducing power and grease it on. Sounds good and 7 out of 10 now are really good with a couple of ordinary ones every now and then. Hang in there as my first 3 months were terrible Terry

    Thanks Guys for your help. I got onto the old owner and she told me the current owners of the property have closed the strip. Damn shame. Mansfield is ok Kaz but then a 1.5 hr drive. Found the closest which is now Yeaburn, just West of Yea but a bit of a drive again from Eildon township. Nice little area--all we aviators need is a nice paddock near Alex Terry

    Well, the latest is the strip is now closed--bugger, I will have to drive. Although I believe there is an ultralight strip at Eildon--does anyone know of this one ? Terry

    Gidday All, I am needing to contact the operators of the strip at Taggerty, Victoria. I flew in there numerous times years ago during my training and now have a daughter working at Alexandra and Eildon and wanted to drop over from Wangaratta. Searched everywhere with no luck Terry

    Hi Guys , Terry here from the Wangaratta Aero Club, We are still around as a flying group and have BBQ's on the last Sunday of the month ( except this weekend coming ). Unfortunately after being a flight training organisation for more than 60 years we could not continue the training on CASA's terms due to the cost of employing a full time Chief Pilot/CFI. To preserve the funds built up by previous stalwarts of the club over the last 60 years we decided to stop the losses and halt GA training. Nathan and Sue at Secure air came in and took on training for a period of time and did a great job. But we are back now with a top aerodrome, great aviation area, great club and training rooms, but unfortunately no training. We are more than happy to welcome another GA training school to use our facilities and we are currently trying to find an RAA instructor who would like to impart his knowledge and skills to get the many pilots locally back in the air. We have access to aircraft and the instructor is our only hold up at the moment. Terry

    Broken Hill is a great spot when the St Pats races are on, we take a few planes there every year. 16th March this year and can probably organise accom if required. You Don't need an asic- well you do but you dont if you know what everyone means.

    Gidday Metalman, We have done the South Aus trip the previous 3 years in our J230 and loved it ( 2009,2010,2011, damn I missed last year) with a different route each time. One that may suit you is once you hit Broken Hill, actually before then you must drop into Lake Mungo for breakfast or lunch, great spot and people. You can do that from Swan Hill then Broken hill after your stop. Next leg was across Lake Frome ( great sites) to Arkaroola and stay the night , fuel is available, then onto Marree. From Marree you can go to William Creek or Coober Pedy which is a great place to overnight in an underground motel, then up to Oodnadata and beyond. These should be easy legs. Not sure on the unleaded as we use Avgas in the 230 but they wouldn't be hard to check. Pm Me if you want to have a chat anytime Terry

    Thanks Guys, Gundaroo sounds like it might be the go. I will do some homework on it. I have the PPL and Transponder etc but dont need the stress going into CB, haven't been in there since my licence test. Terry

    I cannot find any details on this strip and was hoping to find somewhere close to Canberra to drop off a mate who is picking up a vehicle. Is this strip an option or is there others? Hope someone can help Terry

    Well we did the trip and had a ball. Day1 was Wangaratta- Horsham on a hot afternoon and then Friday morning 4th was Horshan to Port Fairy with a 30 kt tail wind. I thought we had a puncture when we touched down at Port Fairy because the glass was so thick. There was glider ops on and they were a great bunch and dropped us into town . The Saturday morning we flew to Apollo Bay for breakfast with our friends in their Eurofox then back past all the 12 Apostles and some shopping in Warnambooll then back to Port Fairy- what a great coastal flight. We then flew home to Wangaratta on a hot saturday morning. Great flight Terry

I thought that maybe a good staging point to stay over night and then head to Horsham to catch up with some freinds Terry

    Gee Brian and Frank, I should have mentioned the instruments are Dynon EMS and EFIS. Could your answer still be true with the Dynon gear or only for the Analogue guage ? We have retraced the sender wire and cleaned the connection, all seems clean and tight. It's just bloody distracting and annoying and really got real worried when on a flight when it first happened thinking the big fan would stop before I could get down. Thanks so much for your help so far and please keep coming back with suggestions if you have any as this area is not my strong point but I am learning heaps. Terry

    Ok guys, I have an oil temp problem I cannot solve as yet. We noticed the oil temps occasionally going haywire- from being nicely in the green to jumping up and down from 120-130 and down to 110 and back up and then sitting back on the normal level. Yep, I know, it is a bad earth I think somewhere or maybe a faulty temp sender. We changed the sender on the block and all seemed good for about 10 hours and now back to fluctuating. Did some testing in flight and found switching off or on strobes or beacon or nav lights and sometimes the PTT also brings it back to the normal readings for a little while. Have tried obvious connections on sender unit etc, removed headsets but all too no avail. Has anyone struck this problem and if so where did they find the fault ?? Any help greatly appreciated. Terry

    Gidday Steve, Terry here from Wangaratta. I am looking at a flight tp Ykat in a few months and was after some local knowledge. I own a J230 and saw you flew one of these. Is YKAT a suitable strip for this aircaft or do I need to get in and out fairly light on fuel etc given the altitude. Any help would be great. Thanks Terry
