  6. He probably could have gotten away if he had a long gait in his stride.
  7. Hi Downunder, I would expect a CFI in HGFA would take into account your flying experience and train you to a level of competancy whether that takes 15, 20 or 30 hours and at their discretion charge less if doing less. There is I believe (may be wrong) a mandatory set number of minimum hours in a Paraglider before moving to Powered Paraglider. The same with RAA, if you come to aviation and lean to fly PPC (or fixed wing) than the rule of thumb with RAA is 20hrs depending on your ability. If you already hold a Group A certificate (Fixed Wing) and wish to take on Group D (PPC) an endorsement may only take 5 hours again depending how long it takes you to reach a level of competancy. If you hold Group D and wish to get into Group A than you may be up for at least 15 hours due to the necessary learned skills to fly fixed wing. I hope that is not to confusing.
  8. To get your money back you should have taken 'a fence'
  9. I keep a Mio 370 as backup, can't remember much these days how I got it up and running anyhow I obtained a DVD "All Australian Maps" from Maptrax in 2011. WACs hardly ever date and while VTC's etc do could be ok for reference. Using OziExplorer on a big screen is a good tool for planing. If anyone is interested in a copy of Maps PM me. No Cost
  10. International Relations - pretty cheap for some nice Chinese warm fuzzies
  11. Hi Tony, I have a CD with all Aus Maps, WACS are all fine but VTC's are dated a couple of years. Still ok for reference. I could coy onto a USB if you wish. Call me 0414517856 MIke
  12. So the Officer was very shaken but not stirred
  13. Thats why they are on the ground so they would shoot high and only get the Nasty Culpret and the officer
  14. Congratulations Bob
  15. Thanks for the pics Puk, next best thing to being there as commitments would not allow. Nice shed

  20. One of my Fathers favorites "God starve the Lizzards" still don't know what it meant.
  21. Its been hot and wet (not everywhere) and soon good flying weather will return. Unfortunately so does a rise in accident statistics. What are you going to do to prepare yourself and your dream machine for the skies.
  22. Gareth pipped you by 1, was 31 yrs last August. i'm sure there are some older aviators out there that will well exceed that, but these days many don't last. Thomo the old farts are giving advice but persevere, there will be plenty of little hiccups along the way but they are character building. (see oldies even punctuate their comments)
  23. It was just like any other day when suddenly following the events of a few seconds you know it is a day you will remember for the rest of you life. So sad that 5 enthusiastic people came to such a tragic end. My thoughts are with the families of the deceased and those of us who witnessed this first hand and have to rationalise the event in our own minds.
  24. Congratulations Tomo, check out the thread on the RPL http://www.recreationalflying.com/threads/rpl-will-actually-suit-me.115232/#post-418285
  25. Sounds like porpoising which I understand can occur in fast cruise as maybe trying to increase ground speed against strong wind - just speculation
