    It's called burping because the oil makes a gurgling sound as it runs back into the reservoir ,sounds like a burp,

    Treat EVERY prop as live,,,I only burp mine if it appears to have low oil level, if I do burp one it's "check switches, set park brake , check throttle , never wrap fingers around blade"

    I mentioned doing a landing across a strip to reduce the angle of a crosswind on another forum and copped a huge blast from a couple of " instructors" ,I've used the technique plenty of times when there's room and landed crosswinds that have the chooks laying the same egg twice. My last really tough landing was at Yarawonga, had one wing so low I thought it would touch before the tyre did,,wasn't pretty but I'm still using the same plane :-) I don't go looking for tough crosswinds ,but whenever I have to land in one I'm quite amazed at how capable the little jigger is.

    If I'm tooling about the Yarra valley and Melbourne radar seem quiet I'll often ask for a TXP check, they always ask what my alt is before giving me what they read, I've learnt to be exact in my answer cause they're exact in the reply, usually within a few feet!

    Now it gets interesting, most POH will have a " demonstrated crosswind " figure, some may have it written differently ,but it's not illegal to land with more than the demonstrated cross wind Citabria/decathalon----17knots Gazelle -----20knots Maule M5 ----14knots Savage cub ---15knots Eurofox----15knots (this was off another source) I've landed my aircraft in 25knots crosswind and although it's not something I'd go looking for the aircraft is quite capable of it, 10-15knots is very much within the ability of the aircraft,

    Yep "but for the grace of god go I" I've had one excursion off the runway but that was a howling crosswind , a bit of dancing and all was good, just whenever I think I'm pretty good at this tail dragger gig it gives me a reminder that tears await my lazy feet,

    I didn't read that bit,,,,mmmm yeh nice thought but you may need a rethink, an hour wouldn't even get the average pilot competent with three pointers, then there's wheelers ,xwinds and just getting your mind awake for taxiing , it's not the sort of thing you should be putting a set time on. It's not too difficult but it takes stick time to get your feet and mind working a little different to how most tricycle pilots are used to

    If you're keen they have a Eurofox at Lilydale , $150 ph solo,not sure how much for the dual , and it's tricky enough to give you a good training experience. I ,along with a lot of GA pilots, did the endorsement in a citabria which is a lovely ,well behaved taildragger,,,,,,completely unlike any other taildragger I've flown since !

    You'll get several answers to that question, there's a few good schools around , Coldstream ,Lilydale and lethbridge all have schools that seems to do alright , not sure about moorabbin or Tyabb. Something that matters to me ,but maybe not everyone is the social side of an airfield , and that's a whole different question

    Nice video, I haven't tried the camera underneath ,I've got some with it under the horizontal stab though. I did a few totally crap landings with the camera on a while back and at the time I thought there's no way that'll go on utube, after watching the footage what seemed like a horrible skip( bounce???) was barely visible .

    I was once asked to give a special needs kids a flight, I kinda just let it go as I was never comfortable with having him near the controls, maybe I was to careful but I just didn't feel comfortable about taking him up on my own, I'm pretty strong so I wouldn't get over powered but it would be hard to bring him back battered n bleeding.

    I've run BP 98 in my 912 uls with no issues for about a year and a half, on a recent trip I was only able to get 91 for one leg ( noccundra - windorah) I rang Bert Floods before I left to see if it would be okay to use an octane booster, answer was " no additives, just don't run it hard and keep and eye on the temps" , I used less than full power on take off and kept the cruise at 4600 , no probs, although I did find some crap in the gascolator which I'm assuming came from the tanks at the servo,

    Physical or mental age,,,,,not sure about royal Vic but at Coldstream there's a fair mix of ages, From teens up to 70's ( possibly 80's),,,,,,,most of the older guys are really good value !

    Agree to all the above, we rented a couple of cars at various places, the speed limit is 70mph on most of the freeways,,,,but if you're not doing at least 80 mph you're being a pest, followed my dad to drop off one renter and as we were late we were poking along at about 90mph, he was shocked to hear that in Vic I would've been arrested, licence suspended on the spot and the car impounded ,,,now I'm all for driving safely but when the cops and cameras( which would last about 30mins in Michigan before they got shot ,,,,the cameras not the cops) will book you for doing 4kmh over the limit in any zone I wonder what we've done to deserve being treated like children. Something that really stood out at Oshkosh ,if you board a plane at an airport where you have to cross the apron there is barriers and bunting everywhere to keep us "safe" ,and if you try to take a photo of the aircraft ,holy sh1t ! The ground crew will have kittens,,,,,,,Oshkosh ? FedEx rolls up in an A320( I think) pops the doors and lets everyone wander around having a look over it, not screaming security ,barriers , nothing . The yanks really take their personal freedom serious, and I like it ,it's refreshing !

    I too just got back from the USA ,and Oshkosh , the coffee is awful,,,,,I went into a Starbucks and asked for an iced coffee expecting something similar to what we get here,,,,,,I got handed a large cup of cold black coffee ,,,with ice cubes in it! One of the few dozen GOTCHA moments we had. Funniest one was asking for a meat pie at a Kalamazoo ( yep it's a real place) gas station,,,,,,coupled with my very Queensland accent being hard to understand and the woman's shock that people would put meat in a pie was priceless ,a bloody funny moment!

    We flew in there last September, call out was $80 per aircraft, three aircraft 3x $80! And the fuel was right up there too $$$$ , it's now on my fly right over list ( if possible) Matty

    Was talking the other day about this, piper and beech may not have a SIDS type of problem as both companies have been bought out by others and as the new owners aren't responsible for what has been built in the past , whereas Cessna has been a continuos ownership since day one , maybe wrong but it makes sense Matty
