  1. Psst. Move the seat back further and adjust the pedals to suit. Also, if you step away from the pies and beer then get some regular exercise your brain will work better. You will live longer too but you will be miserable because you will have to do it without pies and beer. So much for that idea
  2. Remember the golden rule: Whoever has the gold, makes the rules. Plenty of options to fly around Brisbane. However to increase your chances it would be easier to fly with an instructor mid week. So if you are working nine to five, early mornings and last flight in the afternoon are available. Also, it's worth finding an instructor who will work with you around any attendance limitations you may have. This will take some time but it's totally worth it. Yes the training records are totally transferable and in the case of GA at least, in a standard format. The receiving school requests copies from the current school. If you want that done quickly, tell them you are thinking about transferring out and would like your training records up to date. They will get it sorted and audited. It should be done at the end of each week anyways but instructors being who they are ... tend to leave the record keeping until the weather becomes un-flyable. RA or GA training?

  4. Have a look at the twitter hashtag feed at the start of this thread for some more images from today. More images get uploaded every few minutes, if the weather is any good
  5. As with previous years the web cameras are updating regularly on the Lone Eagle Flying School website and this year on OzRunways
  6. CASA CASR Part 103 August 2017 here
  7. Regarding post #10, Tecnam P92 RG 1200 hours $85K. If you want a Cessna/Tecnam/Ford/Mack/Bayliner/Sony/Apple that is what you will buy. I think comparing a GA aircraft in a hangar to something like a Skyfox or Lea Kestrel that can easily go on a trailer is a bit useless so maybe the real issue is the definition of the original question. Mountains of information has been written on the sale value of planes over 40 years. New Cessna prices have roughly doubled every 10 years over the last 60 years with one big jump in the middle. An original 1956 Cessna 172 was just over two times the average wage at $8,700 USD. Have a think about that. I agree with post 12 however note FAA part 103 and UK SSDR were not born of public need, rather the administrators had no ability to manage the workflow. We have part 10 here and I offer no opinion on that.
  8. Petrol gets expensive and loses TEL additive, people buy and drive LPG cars. Governments add tax to LPG sales. Effectively a cause, an effect and a reaction. Petrol and diesel get even more expensive, diesel gets a bad (very deserved) reputation, people buy electric cars effectively powered in Australia 50% by coal (with caveats, YMMV). Governments change registration to get fuel tax equivalent from electric car operators. Not in Australia yet thankfully. Hang gliding, pretty much free but pick your location carefully Soaring, dollar a minute but only in VMC Ballooning, 50c a minute but even more weather dependent GA, 4 to 6 dollars a minute depending on how fast to want spend your airspeed. So for the East Coast latte sucking metrosexuals (e.g. me) no I'm sorry in my opinion flying won't get cheaper or more convenient. Wherever happens the governments will kill it with legislation and it is in their interests to do so. Slowly, like watching a frog boil. With Lee Rhiannon as your party chef. For the rest of the country there are literally piles and piles of under used kit and sport aircraft just waiting for clubs or new owners to discover, fix and fly. Cheaply if not conveniently. Flying is expensive but it doesn't have to be. It just takes time, creativity and initiative. For example I know one club that recently refurbished a two seat plane just to see what it would be like. Go to the Clifton fly-in to find out more!
  9. You need something like the foam cover off the Microavionics MP001 headset? Anyone who stocks the headset or helmets should also stock replacement foam covers
  10. Same forum I was reading the stuff people were going through in 2006 just to get to a job that would pay off their debts. Even since 2013 a lot has changed. But a dog is a dog and many still have fleas. The next SARS/outrage plot/political upset/volcanic eruption comes along and the cycle will go again. Still, three vacuum cleaners and a closet with a poster in it might sound like a pretty good Saturday night to some folk
  11. So, you want to be an airline pilot? - Airline Pilot Central Forums This would actually suck
  12. Something else for those with a crystal (meth) ball to gaze in to... Let's presume distributed propulsion systems on aircraft get a leg up and a VTOL style air taxi service between Brisbane and the inland is established. If this happens, Toowoomba would be an attractive place for an MRO of these sorts of commercial aircraft. Not to mention training of the operators. This is not the sort of circuit traffic Wellcamp wants, nor their neighbours the Army. I feel the aviation landscape will have changed so much in ten years that it will be unrecognisable today and if YTWB is there it will be part of the new mix. Certainly beyond my imagination and I get paid to think big. But then again, the skies aren't dark with flying cars yet either. Damn you, crystal (meth) ball! If Fartnado should be listened to, the flying cars and the RFDS will land on and be stored in a multi-story carpark near the redeveloped Bailey Henderson heliport/hospital.
  13. And if Mr Grover who has been a company director for all of five months is wrong, will he underwrite the difference between what he says is achievable and what the council profit actually is? Didn't think so
  14. Rusty pilot, not lapsed PPL. You can do it again if you really want to. Alternatively, watch and laugh along with the rest of us
  15. Boresight is a feature used to ensure the person viewing the display is in the right place (the middle) when viewing a diagnostic image. In a helicopter the aimer would move his or her seat up/down until the boresight image was in the middle of the display
  16. Actually it could be a helicopter gunsight
  17. Its NOT a gunsight as they look forward and this looks down. Not sure what its off
  18. Umm has anyone thought about putting a grass strip just outside the airport fence and using that instead. For places with a fuel truck this would work well. Anywhere else, just get a bunkering trailer than can be towed behind a quad bike or ute and send that from the fuel bowser through the gate instead. Moruya does this successfully but inside the fence and over to the skydivers. Once the big airport dies due to economic interference, life would go on and the fence would eventually come back down because nobody could be bothered to keep it there. What happens after that is up to whoever speaks up first. But think, what is the difference between a grass strip 500 metres from a regional airport fence and one that is a mile away, ten miles... ? There might be security up to your neck at Wellcamp but a DHC-8 200 can still fly in and out of Toowoomba YTWB without remark. Also of note, there are lot of places you can land a plane as big as a Dash-8 and take off again fully loaded with nobody seeing it on the ground. Goulburn for example is 3500 feet along the main runway and the only people there after dark are probably shooting rabbits.
  19. Flight Gear has a good community and I am confident if one joins there, you will find your answer, get a question answered or just learn heaps about the open source product and other flight models besides the one that is giving you trouble. The configurations can be dizzying and it's very easy to go down a rabbit hole rather that actually simming. This time last year I wrote an interface that allows Flight Gear to drive OzRunways for iPad in simulator mode and posted about it here
  20. Another answer might be "In this regard I have no clue" In he absence of really good information I respectfully suggest TRC just let it be and the likes of Aerotec, DDAC etc will keep doing what they have always done. Eventually some disruptor will tip the balance and the answer will be more clear. Right now, you can fly a King Air in to Toowoomba City, get it fixed or serviced, chuck in some super urgent freight part and/or person and go back to whatever mine site needs it. That has got to be worth something to someone and not all of those activities are possible in the one place nearby. Until that changes "let it be"
  21. I provide no advice on the matter of YTWB or other aerodromes in the care of Toowoomba Regional Council. If I did, I would be providing it to my elected representative in order to try to make it count
