  1. Airfield in post #12 was active today despite or because of the cruddy fog in Canberra. One aircraft was a white drifter.
  2. Anyone going to start a book on how long this one lasts?
  3. You mean the one you drive from canberra airport past Yass and Harden to get to?
  4. The whole valley is cross-crossed with two wire supplies at right angles to the highway and elsewhere. But a working airfield, it is. Looks like a big spider left a web
  5. *cough* Spotted this from a nearby hill. Don't have any further information Google Maps
  6. You will get on the train and leave at the convenience of the train driver like every other polite civilized passenger ... unless you are the train driver or you plan to do something naughty to the driver
  7. From post #9 Well that would have buggered me from Canberra. And anyone who isn't up for a bit of night flying. I know of two people going from Canberra. One got night current for WOI and one got IFR current. Apart from the sheer fun of banging out some night landings (gets pretty quiet in Canberra after dark) it's a pretty expensive trip if you include the cost of those landings
  8. Brisbane West Wellcamp Airport appoints new general manager | Australian Aviation
  9. Einstein warned, "I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones." Source: Wikipedia
  10. Every landing is a (more or less) controlled crash. I'm calm for most of mine too
  11. For those thinking about driving to WOI ... Good luck. After going to the Canberra airport open day last year I don't think I will be attending any air show unless I get there by going over the fence at 50 feet AGL. I spent more time in traffic than actually at the airport and I live quite close by
  12. I was but an unbreakable family commitment did a Stephen Bradbury on me
  13. The TV antenna is typically a Yagi design and a bit directional. Note most TV stations all Transmit from one central place such as Mt Coot-tha, Mt Dandenong (?) or Black mountain etc But the band is not too far off as old VHF TV sound used the same band as FM broadcast (not digital) so the antenna will pick up something even if it's not pointing quite in the same direction. Finally, air band is VHF AM 118 to 132 MHz. A 90 degree azimuth won't help at all. That is to say if the TV antenna is pointing north and the airport is east or west. A summary of frequencies: UHF TV 506.25 and up (irrelevant for this discussion) VHF TV image 138.25-299.75 MHz Air band voice 118 to 132 MHz Air band navigation 108-117.95 MHz FM broadcast 87-108 MHz So yes the TV antenna can pick up quite a bit of this
  14. Density altitude? Less brake wear? *jokes*
  15. Buffalo airways has some DC-4s but wings are noticeably not constant chord Side note: The recent wet weather in South East Queensland had promoted a fungus that lives in septic tanks. When it rains the fungus gets into the air. A primary indicator is when sufferers think C-130s have piston driven engines.
  16. Any uniden bearcat. Second hand preferrably. Alternatively chuck out the cheapo switch mode charger and get something less electrically noisy. Like a motorcycle battery that can be charged when you aren't listening. Ditto for the antenna. It will work ok if it has an external antenna socket and you plug an air band outdoors antenna in to it (or the bearcat). Desktop scanners obviously have a more expensive mains supply
  17. Any Mooney built before 1970 but specifically the Mooney M22 Mustang. Not to fly. Just to look at
  18. Something to think about Cessna 152 Fuel Gauge (Standard 12 Gal. Tanks)
  19. Time for a review of CAR120. It will be interesting to see if Air Services actually take the donation. I am "all for the idea". I think bureaucracy will get in the way.
  20. Anywhere there is an ATIS or AWOS?
  21. Same comment for the ones run by various councils and state departments
  22. Umm. There are heaps already. Canberra airport has one. Many clubs have their own.

    Brake fluid

I just did the brakes on my car. One can of Bosch heavy duty DOT4 500mL. But I did a good flush and the master cylinder header is at least 150mL. One can should be heaps
