  2. Consider a SportStar at Goulburn. Ascending in Class G has it's benefits even though it's a two hour drive out of Sydney. If you are heading south or west (away from the coastal weather) you could be missing out on early ground fog. Downside: It gets really cold there in winter
  3. Please PM me your linked in profile URL and/or resume
  4. I'm pretty sure that issue between DSS and Deloitte wasn't made public...until today
  5. I tried very hard to get my employer to author a statement to the effect that while they weren't paying me to do flying training they would be offering me a better paying job once I finished. This was to assist with claiming flying training and ALL subscriptions, memberships, medical exams and ASICs as tax deductions. The employer agreed but at Tax time the letter wasn't forthcoming and I had already spent the money. Someone higher up decided it wasn't worth their time and what was the point if I had spent the money already anyway. I treated that act of bastardry with exactly the response it deserved.
  6. The only things that will shift 2 pack are VOCs, heat and mechanical force. Time helps but you'd be dead waiting. Brake fluid is a kind of mineral oil that boils at very high temperature but is still quite thin (e.g. the opposite of volatile) It is usually a mixture of glycols which is why it loves sucking up water
  7. Turco 5351 is ... 30-60% methylene chloride. Mar-Hyde is a very interesting recipie. Mostly water, methanol and naptha
  8. Acetone and MEK are solvents for application of 2 pack not stripping
  9. Ekostrip is 1-Methyl-2-pyrrolidone and won't work on 2 pack. Methylene Chloride will
  10. The next bet might be Benco B17 aka Methylene Chloride aka "drinking bird" fluid (yep it's a thing). Another volatile organic compound
  11. I used to use tonnes of it in a powder coating factory for the hanger hooks. Maybe chase the powder coaters up and see what they use now
  12. Use what Boeing use. 1,1,1 Trichloroethane. Aka liquid paper thinner
  13. Got the rest of the week ... If the weather holds
  14. Mine just got back from 100 hourly. Now I'm not available. Welcome
  15. Second week in March every year, a bunch of people from all over the world come together to balloon over the nation's capital ... Then scarf massive amounts of caffeine, greasy food, champagne and sugar. Yesterday suffered from low cloud and ground fog at the intended launch site. Today saw a mass launch. Last day is 19th March but the weather might have other ideas Canberra Balloon Spectacular Search Twitter - #canberraballoonspectacular Search Twitter - #balloonspectacular

  17. Are you lodging a flight plan?
  18. Same at Canberra after the tower closes. 10pm EST I think
  19. It depends... Call Amberley Delivery on their frequency. If a machine responds it will tell you the status of the airspace. Likewise a human will do the same. ATS hours are by NOTAM so check the NOTAMs. ATS mat be active on short notice even on weekends (e.g. Clifton Fly In March 11-13) It's all in the ERSA entry. See flight procedures section 5 for VFR transit. See notes at the end. Lots of use of the word "mandatory". And for the love of all that is good and holy please keep listening out on the Amberley Delivery frequency. No point in being half way across the paddock when the Bulls are let loose
  20. FAA only just recently dropped questions on LORAN when changing from PTS to ACS. Yes VOR and ADF questions are still relevant to the CASA PPL Theory exam. Not my choice. I would like to see questions on GNSS, RAIM predictions and CAR233(1)(H) but I don't set the syllabus and the PPL exam STILL requires competency using non electronic navigation methods
  21. VFRG version 5 section 3.85 says if a transponder is fitted use code 3000 in class D or a discrete code already assigned. I recommend a paper copy of the VFRG. A PDF version was supposed to be forthcoming but I couldn't wait and searching it online is the pits
  22. I like electric flight. I think RA-Aus will stay with RAAO of single engine piston driven aircraft up to two seats. No asymmetric thrust, contra rotating or jets and no electric. The reason for this is that these propulsion systems are traditionally either the bastion of aircraft over 700Kg or experimental. Sometimes both. That still leaves a lot of scope. I would love to see an RAAO JUST for electric propulsion. Someone from SAAA chime in but I don't think there is any guidance in Oz for electric propulsion. Use the electric Lazair twin as an example. It is FAR 103 compliant over there and SSDR compliant as a float plane. As far as I know it could only be experimental in Oz but who would approve it? As an aside I think youngsters would be very interested in an bare naked electric flyer (or motorbike) with lots of coloured wires peeking out and a tablet with blue tooth for a display. There just aren't any examples to show off at the local shops
  23. I promise to make my questions wimply from now on
  24. Request RejectedAir Services Mode S Civil Aviation Order 20.18 (Aircraft equipment — basic operational requirements) Instrument 2014 Paragraph 9E. Mode S not required in Class D
